About Maria:
I have had a lot of experience and sucess in teaching the 3-5, 5-11 and adult curriculum. I enjoy tutoring people to encourage them to expand on their skills.

Teaching Experience:

Completed a BA Educational Studies at the University of Edinburgh. This involved placements in Primary 4, 7, 5/6 and nursery. Whilst at university I was involved in teaching drama and life skills to a youth group. I also worked part time in nurseries following the 3-5 curriculum. Since completing my degree I have worked in a college, teaching adults and young people how to access computing and library services.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to audit what is already known and structure a plan that will be followed to expand on the gaps. It is important to build confidence in skills and knowledge that is already present, and engage the learner in something that is meaningful to them.

Qualifications:
BA Educational Studies
Higher English, Modern Studies, Chemistry

About Hayley:
I am a trained teacher, with a degree (2:1) in Psychology, from the University of Reading, and a PGCE in Advanced Early Years. I have classroom experience, specifically in Early Years and Key Stage One. I am currently working as a Children's Pastor and so have regular contact with children of primary school age.

I have been working with children since I was 16, babysitting, tutoring, running and leading activity groups and teaching. My job currently doesn't give me time to teach full time, so I am tutoring to keep myself in the education loop.

I have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I have always had an interest in teaching and have experience dating back to my own school days where I would choose to work in schools during work experience, or volunteer to help whenever I could. I based my psychology dissertation around language development in children and spent time working in schools.

On an official basis I am a trained teacher with some classroom experience. During my training I had placements in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One settings.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to base it around the needs of the individual needs of the client.

My aims are to build students confidence in their abilities and to raise their expectations with challenging, pupil centered and rewarding lessons, producing great results. I am interested in helping all primary aged children, from children who may struggle in specific areas, those who need help with homework, or those who need to be pushed forward in their abilities.

I am very patient and enjoy helping others to learn.
I can provide extra tuition to keep children focused during holidays.

Qualifications:
I have a PGCE (Advanced Early Year) from Bath Spa University. During this training I had experience in foundation and key stage one settings, as well as some time in key stage two.
I have taught in an Infant school, in a reception class. This job requires patience and a lot of energy, which I feel I provide whether I am teaching one child or a whole class. This experience has helped me to develop the skills I beleive are necessary f
I currently work as a children's pastor. This means that I have to be organised and motivated in planning whe programme for children aged 5-11 years and be able to deliver a programme which reaches all of this age group. I find that while I am on stage on
My degree and continued interest in psychology means that I am qualified to teach psychology up to A-Level standard. I look forward to tutoring this subject as it is something I have had a long term interest in.

About Emma-Lea:
I have recently finished my A-levels and in October 2008 will be going to Oxford University in order to study Law. I myself have enjoyed learning, and thoroughly enjoy using my expertise to help others.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several children up to age 16, one of whom spoke no English prior to my tutoring. Currently I tutor several primary school aged pupils whom I will guide through SATs tests and entrance examinations over the next year.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important that each individual develops a method that is suited to them. This sometimes entails using unconventional methods to come to a conclusion. I work individually with each of my clients and gain an understanding of their particular interests and the way in which they work and adapt my approach accordingly. I feel that a hands on approach is essential, and therefore the tutee will constantly be trying out methods to reach their solution.

About Julie:
I am currently working full time in administration after travelling in Australia for six months last year. I previously spent 3 years at university studying Mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from University of Stirling with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and its Applications and have since been tutoring Standard Grade Mathematics throughout the last exam period.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my last tutoring sessions I found that discussing certain areas of difficulty with the student gives me a good understanding for what to prepare for future tutoring sessions. As sessions continue I get a good idea of what the student is struggling with and concentrate on exam preparation and exam style questions.

Qualifications:
4 Highers Mathematics, English, Physics, History

A recent graduate from Cambridge University with a BA in French, German and History, I have a wide experience in the arts. A primary interest lies in education outreach, making learning interesting and valuable to students.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed an initial teacher training in EFL (CELTA), and have experience in this field with both adults and young learners. I have also taught younger students in a theatrical capacity, and have tutored students preparing for exams and Oxbridge entry.

I believe a relaxed and comfortable approach is the best way to encourage enthusiasm and success for students. I favour a 'mentor' approach, guiding students and encouraging them to think for themselves, but obviously tailor my methods to meet specific goals the tutees may have. Tutoring is a very worthwhile way of supplementing education, and can play a vital role in fostering a desire to learn.
