| Personal Description: I am a male French national (born in 1973) and I have been living in the UK for about 22 years. I have a degree in Economics, a postgraduate diploma in History and a PGCE (teacher qualification) in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). I am well qualified, experienced, professional, personable and honest. |
Teaching Experience: I have a PGCE in MFL and I have been a full-time teacher of French and Spanish in secondary schools (from Year 7 to year 13) for 20 years. I have successfully taught all age groups and abilities. I have always met my targets in terms of students' grades and attainment level. I also have a long experience of teaching private tuitions and I have always been able to help tutees preparing for exams to obtain an A. I have also successfully taught adults. |
Tutoring Approach: I make sure that my teaching is tailor-made to the needs of my tutee (depending on age, progess to be made, tutee's objective, etc...). As well as teaching whatever skills and knowledge my student requires, I work on increasing their confidence in the subject learned as I think this is key to progress. I also enable my tutee to gain more independence in learning so that he or she becomes self-reliant in the subject. I create a relaxed working atmosphere, and my tutions are very much interactive with an adequate balance of tutor-led/tutee-led activities to make sure that the tutee feels comfortable, enjoys the tuition and progresses as far as possible. |

| PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages |

| Personal Description: I have been working as a highly successful English tutor since 2007. Additionally, in 2012, I worked three days a week in an independent girls' school in Exeter, providing one-to-one support for a girl in Year 9 and also taught English Literature to Year 7 & Year 13 classes. I live near Bridport in Dorset. I have a passion for the written word and its performance in poetry and drama. I have grown-up children and grandchildren, and am very interested in how young people view and contribute to the world in which they live. I gained an MA (with Merit) in Postcolonial Studies from SOAS, University of London in 2015 and a First Class Joint Honours BA in English and Classics from the University of Reading in 1996. I teach online via Skype and other platforms, often incorporating Google Documents. Skype has proved to be a highly successful way of teaching and I now teach across the globe using this medium. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a highly successful English tutor for many years. Most of my client base is private but I also work for a top London tuition agency. I am a highly experienced tutor and currently have students in English Language & Literature from KS 2 to 'A' level/IB. I specialise in 11+,13 + and Common Entrance exams. My students have been awarded places at many schools, including Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Sevenoaks, The Perse Cambridge, Magdalen School Oxford, Oxford High School for Girls and grammar schools in London. I also work with undergraduates & postgraduates in various disciplines, providing guidance in the structure of their essays, particularly dissertations, and academic writing. In 2019, the two undergraduate students I have supported (at the University of Exeter and University of Edinburgh) have each gained First Class classifications, both in their dissertation and overall degree. Additionally, in 2014/15 I tutored the complete AQA GCSE Classical Civilisation syllabus to a Year 9 student via Skype, who obtained an A as her final grade. I also have experience in helping adults with their business English and have written marketing copy for the commercial sector. |
Tutoring Approach: When I tutor a student, I search for a 'tailor-made' way to help increase their self-esteem and confidence. This enhances the learning they already receive in the classroom. The study of texts offers student and tutor alike not only an opportunity to develop communication one with another but also insight into the life experiences of others, both in past generations and the wider world today. I have helped numerous students to achieve higher than their predicted grades at both GCSE, IB and 'A' level and have many excellent references available. I work with students in the independent and state school sectors and with varying levels of academic ability. |

| Personal Description: Hola I am a university-educated, native Spanish speaker who has been permanently based in the UK since 2008. I am a professional translator with several years of experience and have also worked as a Spanish tutor from home, teaching both adults and children. I have supported Year 11 students during their GCSE Spanish speaking lessons, helping them develop their confidence, pronunciation, vocabulary and conversational skills. I also have a good understanding of the skills and knowledge students are expected to demonstrate in their Spanish A-level oral examinations. In addition, I hold a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, awarded by Open Study College. This qualification has enabled me to support children and young people in the classroom, including during Spanish lessons, and has given me valuable insight into different learning needs and teaching approaches. As a native Spanish speaker, professional translator and experienced tutor, I can offer both a strong knowledge of the Spanish language and an understanding of how to communicate it clearly to English-speaking learners. I find tutoring very rewarding and genuinely enjoy helping people discover the Spanish language and culture, whether they are learning Spanish for school, work, travel, personal interest or simply because they want to learn something new. |
Teaching Experience: Before moving to the UK, I taught Spanish to English-speaking adults who were visiting Cuba as tourists while I was working in the tourism industry. This gave me my first experience of helping people communicate confidently in Spanish in real-life situations. Since becoming a tutor in the UK, I have taught Spanish on a one-to-one basis to adults and children of varying ages and abilities. This experience has helped me develop a range of teaching methods and activities that can be adapted to each student's individual abilities, interests and goals. I have also organised and delivered Spanish clubs in primary schools in England and supported Year 11 pupils in preparing for their GCSE Spanish speaking examinations. I particularly enjoy helping students become more confident when speaking Spanish. I took a break from tutoring through this platform a few years ago due to other professional commitments and have recently returned. Unfortunately, the positive reviews I received from previous students are no longer displayed on my new profile following the removal of my former profile. I am now looking forward to working with new students and helping them achieve their language-learning goals. |
Tutoring Approach: Because every student is different, I believe lessons should be individually tailored to meet their needs. So, I will plan lessons around your needs, goals, interests and current level, allowing you to progress at a comfortable pace. Depending on what you want to achieve, lessons can focus on: Speaking and conversation Listening and comprehension Reading Writing Vocabulary and grammar Pronunciation GCSE and A-level Spanish preparation Building confidence Whether you are a complete beginner, an intermediate learner or looking to improve more advanced Spanish skills, I will adapt my lessons to suit you. I can also incorporate real-life situations and practical conversation into lessons, making Spanish more enjoyable and useful beyond the lesson. I am patient, approachable and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and developing their confidence. |

| Personal Description: Hi there, I'm here to help you excel in Spanish, especially in your GCSE exams. My time in Colombia, living in both cities and villages, gave me a genuine understanding of language and its importance in connecting with people. Beyond that, my background in journalism adds a unique perspective to learning. It's not just about teaching phrases; it's about delving into the culture and applying Spanish in real-world scenarios. And if you're considering a future in journalism, I've got some insights to share. Spain is a place close to my heart, whether it's holiday getaways or planning the next visit. So, our Spanish lessons won't be just about textbooks; they'll be about real-life, enriching experiences and how to get by when you're abroad. Let's make Spanish learning enjoyable, practical, and tailored to your goals. Whether it's acing those exams or simply falling in love with the language, I'm here to guide you every step of the way. |
Teaching Experience: I currently tutor GCSE Spanish online and I taught English as a second language for some months. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to teaching is that we first need to determine your objective and set a realistic plan and timescale to achieving it. When I was first learning Spanish, I did not set myself a deadline for reaching specific objectives because I hadn't anyone's guidance. In hindsight, I see this is essential, and with my assistance in setting you a plan to reach well-defined objectives it means you will accumulate small victories. Language learning is often described as a journey, and adding these wins will see your motivation and commitment to studying Spanish continue long-term. I will use textbooks, music, videos, excerpts from books, test papers and role-play speech scenarios during our class. I will set you homework that will incorporate various learning techniques, that will test your entire language proficiency. Between classes your abilities will be challenged, but you will never have to hesitate to reach out to me as I will be here to offer help and encouragement. |
