| Personal Description: I am an artist specialising in the use of soft pastels to paint pictures that are vibrant and full of impact. I live and work in Whitby, North Yorkshire, and it is there that I run my own gallery called The Cellar Gallery. I have been painting in soft pastels for the last ten years and IO am mainly self taught, although I have had professional tuition in the past. I am passionate about the use of pastels, which I feel is a greatly underestimated medium, but was in fact used by the French Impressionists. I have exhibited widely in juried exhibitions, most recently with The Pastel Society of Australia. |
Teaching Experience: I have only felt able to do tuition in the past six months so that my teaching experience is limited. However I did run a workshop for a group in Sheffield which was very well received, I am tutoring an individual later this month, and I am running a series of workshops at The Dutch House, Crayke, near York over the coming months. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel that the tutor needs to know about their pupil and needs to know what his or hers perceived weakness are to work on these togetherI don't believe in the pupil copying what the tutor does, rather let the pupil work on their own thing with lots of input from the tutor. I very much believe in encouragement and positive critique, and I hope to work in a friendly, approachable fashion |
