| Personal Description: I have studied up to Masters level including a post graduate teaching qualification; my main subject being biology. Throughout my studies and research maths has played an important role and I have taught maths and science privately at various times during my career. Due to the Coronavirus situation, I am offering tutoring via googlemeets. Also, I am considerably reducing my charges. THESE REDUCED FEES ARE FOR ONLINE SESSIONS ONLY. Therefore, if, in the future, you should require me to visit for lessons, we would have to discuss repricing I am presently offering a half price first lesson with no commitment required for further lessons. Please note that I do ask for a small payment towards travel for students outside of Kidderminster. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught voluntarily to adults with special learning needs, and privately for spells during my career. I have also given my services on a voluntary basis to young people's groups, assisting in a wide range of subjects from arts to sciences. I am happy to conduct lessons at alternative venues, such as libraries and grandparents homes. Please note that I do ask for a small payment towards travel for students outside of Kidderminster. Please note that the fee quoted is FOR ONLINE SESIONS ONLY. |
Tutoring Approach: My unique selling point I consider to be my attitude towards young people. I continue to develop an approach which is based on respect and empathy. Each child is an individual and requires an individual approach. Many young people lack confidence, and my aim, by patience and acceptance is to reassure and inspire. For each student I would hope to work out a programme of study based on the student's wishes. From the many resources available, we would work out what suits the student best. Where the student is comfortable with parental involvement, I would actively encourage this. Please note that I do ask for a small payment towards travel for students outside of Kidderminster. |

Tutoring Approach: I am an Italian national who has been living in Bristol since September 2012 and having had a long time experience as an Italian teacher for students who have participated in the AFS Intercultural Program, it has not been difficult to insert myself here as a private Italian teacher. I have a deep understanding of the GCSE program since I am tutoring three English secondary school students who are having difficulties with the Italian language. They lack interest and enthusiasm thus each lesson becomes more difficult but a challenge for me. I am looking for lessons that give them the enthusiasm they are missing and I must say that I am succeeding; sometime I see that the textbook is very dry and for this reason, my personal teaching materials often replaces the book. My method is based a lot on grammar induction, stimulating conversations with the student, based on body movements for understand the action of the various stages of the exploration of the basic construction of the verb tense. A few years ago I enrolled in a workshop offered at the university about the use and choice of scene Italian films for understand better the Italian style-life and that has been quite useful to my teaching of Italian culture. Furthermore, I have been a guide in the city of Rome and I'm perfectly capable of organizing a cultural trips. I look forward to being given an opportunity to work with your school: it is the type of environment I thrive in and to transmit my passion and love for my country and for my mother tongue is my main goal. | Personal Description: Do you need help with arts and humanities assignments (especially art history and film studies)? Do you want an introduction to film or the history of art, for their own sake or as an informal platform for further study? Or are you more interested in visual and critical analysis of artwork? I can help you with all of these. Depending on your needs, I can introduce these subjects, or I can help you to strengthen and enhance your analysis, use theory well, and present your work successfully. A large part of my teaching has been aimed at students of art practice, but not exclusively so. While my main specialisms cover painting of the early twentieth century to the present. I am particularly interested in areas over overlap between 'high' and 'low' culture, and in cross-fertilisations among media (e.g cinema and painting). I am also a practicing artist, and I believe this gives me valuable added insight technical, material and stylistic concerns which supplement historical and contextual matters. In addition to the above I have published a number of academic texts, and have much experience of public speaking, delivering conference papers, editing and blogging. |
Teaching Experience: I hold a Phd in film studies, an MA in visual culture and a BA in fine art. Over 25 years, I have devoted myself to teaching in these and related subjects to post-18 students of all abilities, mainly at: - The University of Sussex (film studies) - Bath Spa College of Art and Design (Fine Art Contextual Studies) - University of Brighton, (Senior Lecturer in Art and Design History/). I have also worked for the University of the West of England, Wimbledon School of Art, the Workers' Educational Association and the Centre for Continuing and Adult Education (University of Sussex). |
Tutoring Approach: I love providing one-to-one-tutorials, seminars and lectures, as well as supervising written and other assignments. I usually combine my delivery with open-ended but focused discussion, and as often as possible seek to engage the artwork directly. My general rule is to begin with our own experience of the artwork, and then to proceed outwards towards contexts, critical readings and theories. I consider my main strengths to be: - diversity and breadth of knowledge - the ability where useful to put 'theory and practice' together - the ability to teach accessibly and in different registers to diverse learners - providing helpful and empathetic support for students. |

Teaching Experience: I taught my first lesson in 1998. Currently the head teacher of a special school, still teaching maths every day. Maths teaching experience from primary school through to A-Level. When teaching A-Level, I specialised in statistics. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to take my students back to the gap in their learning which is causing the current difficulty. I believe in trying to understand rather than just doing but will accept that sometimes the more pragmatic approach is needed. I have recently had success with my students by embracing a more pictorial approach. |
