| Personal Description: I am a Math obsessed Technology Consultant with 15 years of experience in the Technology Consulting and Training domain. Since graduating in 2003 with a degree in Mathematics from the famed University of Waterloo I have worked around the world in blue-chip Multinational companies training engineers, sales professional and customer support representatives. I have taken a short break from the cut-throat corporate life to spend some time with my family and have taken up tutoring given my longstanding background in Maths and training/teaching. I am very passionate about Mathematics and the critical role it plays not just in everyday life but as a core subject matter that underpins all science and engineering disciplines. My teaching style is very high energy and motivated and I thrive on making sure my pupils succeed regardless of what their tutoring needs are. |
Teaching Experience: As mentioned before I have 15 years spent training and teaching in the corporate sector including companies like Ericsson and Ernst and Young. I have been recognised and acknowledged over and over again for my excellence in teaching, my effectiveness as a trainer and in getting on tough subjects in a very clear and lucid manner. During my University years I spent a lot of time in tutoring high school students in Maths and Physics and it was then that I become really passionate about teaching and assisting people in understanding difficult concepts. |
Tutoring Approach: Every student is independent and needs a tailored approach to teaching and tutoring hence my strategy always adapt to the students learning style and needs that is best suited to their learning. I use a lot of visual tools and sketching in my teaching in order to stimulate my students' thinking and crystallise their concepts. I don't believe in giving away answer, instead I believe in prompting my students minds in order to coax and cajole them towards the correct answers and truly build their independent thinking. |

| Personal Description: I have had a genuine interest in religious, moral and philosophical studies from a young age, achieving an A in my Higher RMPS exam whilst at school. I then went on to study for a joint honours degree in Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. I also have an ordinary degree in Theology from the University West of Scotland, as well as my PGDE in teacher training from the University of Strathclyde. I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and also worked part-time as an athletics coach for children aged 5-18 throughout my time at University. In my spare time I am a keen cyclist and ride for an amateur racing team based in Glasgow. My most recent achievements include winning the Scottish Team Time Championships and winning the biggest Sportive event in Scotland- The Loch Ness Etape, where I also broke the course record. Before taking up cycling, I was a middle/long distance runner, winning the Scottish schools 800m Championships both indoor and outdoor on the track. I also represented my country 3 times over cross-country and road. These experiences have enabled me to understand the pressures which some young people face when trying to balance their studying with other commitments, and therefore how important it is to use your time effectively. |
Teaching Experience: I am a highly driven and motivated teacher who cares about the wellbeing and progress of all my pupils. I have been teaching for four years and have had experience of teaching core RMPS to all year groups. In doing so, I have covered a significant array of topics and helped pupils to develop both their literacy skills and higher order thinking skills. When I began teaching at my current school, Higher RMPS had never had sufficient uptake to run as a viable class. As the only RMPS teacher in my school, I raised the profile of the subject, and successfully gained enough pupil interest to secure a Higher RMPS class. I am therefore extremely knowledgeable in relation to the course content, essay structure and marking scheme of the Higher qualification. I have made an extensive contribution to curriculum development over the past four years, creating material for the Higher class, as well as new topics for other year groups such as Medical ethics, Modern-day slavery and Stewardship and the Environment. All of these commitments have developed my knowledge of the school curriculum and have had a clear impact on the increasing levels of engagement from pupils. Evidence of this can be seen from the uptake of Higher RMPS, as well as some of my pupils enquiring about the possibility of Advanced Higher running in the future. Further, I have had survey feedback forms from pupils at the end of certain topics, in which they have expressed their enjoyment and appreciation of the topic. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring will be student-centred and flexible. Every pupil will be tutored in the way which is best suited to them and I will adapt my teaching style accordingly. I always ensure that I get to know my students individually and that I continuously assess their understanding and progress of the work being given to them, through both formative and summative assessment. My lessons focus on pace and challenge, by using effective questioning techniques, self-assessment and giving students a choice in tasks. Pupil choice is important to me and is something I have been incorporating more into my teaching. In order to motivate pupils, I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, by preparing a variety of activities for every session. My manner encourages students to try their best at all times and I always remind pupils that mistakes are needed in order to succeed. I am also consistent in creating differentiated resources for those pupils that require it. I am extremely approachable and hard-working, and I strive to help my students fulfil their potential. |
