Personal Description:
I have recently retired after 37 years in Education. My most recent job was a Senior Lecture at a University trading teachers. Previous to that I was a full time teaching Deputy Head Teacher and I taught year 6 for 16 years. My qualifications include masters in Education, B.Ed (Hons) with distinction in teaching practice and National Professsional Qualification for Headship. I have grown up children as well as young grandchildren. I have recently retired to the Padstow area after spending the last 30 years coming here on holiday.

Teaching Experience:

During my career I have taught all age groups but specialised in year 6 for 16 years since SATs were introduced. I am particularly passionate about Maths and really enjoy teaching number.
I have also trained as a Y6 Science marker, so am able to offer advice on exam technique and mark scheme for this subject. I also have vast experience of Y6 booster classes and one-to-one tuition.
I have recently retired from ecturing in Primary and Early Years Mathematics Education on the Primary Mathematics modules of various Initial Teacher Training degree courses at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim for my sessions to be fun but informative and productive. I believe pace at the child's level is the key to progress.

I am aware of the methods taught in Primary Schools today, so your child won't be confused by yet another way of multiplying or dividing!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in secondary schools for 7 years.

My expertise is in achieving band 9's, the highest awarded grade. However, I also pride myself in my ability to support and help students reach their own personal targets.

For dyslexic students I have created resources to support them in written exams, particularly in drama.

I have taught GCSE drama (edexcel exam board) for 6 years and GCSE sociology (aqa exam board for 2 years.

Many of my students have achieved band 9s in both of these subjects.

I trained as a drama teacher originally but extended my skills set to also be able to teach GCSE sociology.

I am also qualified to teach a level drama although I have not taught this in a few years.
