Personal Description:
Liam has been privately teaching for a number of years, for a range of different ages and abilities on Electric Bass and Electric Guitar. He also teaches Music Technology and Music Theory.
Focusing on listening before playing using a range of aural training, his students are keen to learn from his teaching methods despite the stigma attached to more traditional aural exercises. He can work to any syllabus required but has also obtained great results from students who have voiced their dislike for the graded system.

In the year of 2014, two of Liam's Bass Guitar students were accepted onto the prestigious RNCM B.Mus (Hons) Popular Music course, of which there are only around 7 successful applicants a year.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching a range of ages and abilities privately for the past 10 years, including preparation for ABRSM Theory, Rockschool Bass and Guitar, RGT Guitar, and GCSE and A-Level Music.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is mainly what the student desires, and keeping things fun and interesting. I focus my teaching on listening before playing, using a range of aural training and awareness techniques which students seem to enjoy despite the stigma attached to traditional ear training. I use popular and current musical examples to help students grasp new concepts and this seems to work well.

Qualifications:
BMus. (Hons) Jazz, Popular and Commerical Music [1st Class Honours]

Personal Description:
I have always enjoyed Religious Studies and Philosophy and really enjoy discussing them with friends and students alike. Both subjects are so diverse and deep and yet they are accessible to all who are interested. As a child I was often a reluctant student so I empathise with those who find school hard and feel that motivation is one of my strengths.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a secondary school RS teacher for 11 years and have been head of department for 8. I also have senior leadership responsibilities. RS is compulsory in the school I teach in so I am experienced in motivating students and in making the content relevant to them. The school is a private comprehensive school and our results in RS have been very high, particularly at GCSE level, usually between 85% and 90% of students in my department achieve at least a grade 4 (equivalent to the old grade C). We have achieved this despite all students being entered for the exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important for students to enjoy learning and that all aspects of my subject can be interesting if taught well and with the needs of the individual students at the heart of the pedagogy.

Personal Description:
I graduated from London School of Economics (LSE) having studied Accounting & Finance. I have always been very passionate and enthusiastic about Mathematics, it has always my favourite subject at school. I was lucky to have some amazing inspirational teachers who took their time to explain topics thoroughly and pushed students who showed interest and capability. I'd love to be able to help other students in a similar way.

I am able to tutor in Northwood, Ruislip, Pinner, Harrow and the surrounding areas.

I can tutor in the following subjects:
-Mathematics (Edexcel) at GCSE, IGCSE and
-Mathematics (Edexcel) AS/A2 Levels (C1, C2, C3, C4, S1, M1)
-Further Mathematics (Edexcel) at AS Level (FP1, M2, D1)

I studied the above subjects myself and am therefore, quite familiar with them.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2012. I use a variety of resources including worked examples, past papers questions, mini tests and worksheets as well as online resources.

During my second year at LSE, I volunteered as a classroom assistant within the Mathematics department at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington. During secondary school, I also helped many fellow students in lunch breaks and after school as well as tutoring my siblings often covering a topic from scratch. All of this has helped me develop patience and understanding of how students think and the common mistakes and misconceptions that they have.

Tutoring Approach:

If the student already knows which topics they struggle with, then I am able to focus on those specific areas using a variety of resources. If necessary, I may "test" their current knowledge and capabilities by asking them to work through 1-2 questions so I can see their thought process and therefore, tailor any advice and teaching accordingly.

If a student completely doesn't understand a topic/area, then I would start from the basics and use plenty of worked examples and textbook/past paper questions to cement their knowledge and understanding as the key to doing well is achieved through practicing as many questions as possible!

I am incredibly patient, polite and well mannered. I have experienced the struggles of GCSEs and A Levels and can relate to the students concerns and worries. I have mentored several students and younger siblings/family relatives through their secondary school years and beyond, which I think makes me an ideal choice as a tutor.

Qualifications:
ACCA Qualified Accountant
BSc Accounting & Finance degree from LSE

Personal Description:
I'm Scott, a 52 year-old Scottish-born educator. Since 2003 i have majorly devoted my professional life to teaching L2 English to adults from overseas. Over the years i have narrowed my professional focus down to higher proficiency academic skills, with a specialist skill in the craft of writing. Consequently I have enjoyed some notable successes with tertiary-level students making the switch to the British Higher Education System.
On a personal note, i am a true adventurer with incredible journeys taken in many of the 50 countries I have already visited. I have lived 15 years abroad in my adult life, divided between 11 countries on 4 continents. I write prolifically, both for the travel industry, and for myself. Currently I am well into a new literary project, a short fictional novel called 'The Man Who Brought The Rain.'. I'm also a travel/landscape photographer with work sold around the world through Adobe. I love animals, music, intellectual enquiry, sunlight, mountains, and have trekked to great heights in some of the great ranges, including the Himalaya and the Andes. Last but not least, I live on a beautiful boat, which I helped to build myself over a 2 year period.

Teaching Experience:

Commencing in 2003 in a private language school in Greece, I have been active in teaching every year for the past 21 years. Since those early days I worked in UK public sector in adult education on literacy & numeracy accredited courses. I then moved into university in 2008 and have worked consistently (and tirelessly) with that adult/undergraduate/B2-C2 demographic ever since with considerable success. After five years in public higher educational colleges in the Middle East between 2013-2018, i returned to the UK to combine unrelated projects with my teaching, which i have done online with students from York and Bath University ever since. I have a level 5 TEFL diploma, as well as an MA in TESOL, an MA in International Relations, and a BA in the Humanities.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is adaptive, depending on the environment, the syllabus, and the numbers of alumni involved. WIth larger classes of 10-15, the approach in the past 5 years has become ever more blended, aiming at a balance between face-to-face online sessions and a complex array of digital learning tools to be harnessed both independently and collaboratively. i encourage collaborative task-based learning enormously. At the academic level i operate at, autonomous, independent learning is the backbone of knowledge enrichment.
While nevertheless conforming to the popular student-centred, communicative approach, I consider myself a traditionalist insofar as i take strong central role in the flow of information. Elicitation of ideas from students, recycling of new lexis, applying practice to theory, and reinforcement of learning at the factual level are all important. But moreover, challenging young minds to think laterally about problems beyond their existing scheme of understanding can generate great results. My students like asynchronous methods, but still look up to a figurehead they consider wise and knowing beyond their years.
1-to-1 tutorials are to be viewed with a subtle difference. While the principles of group learning still hold sway, 1-to-1 is more intimate, more intensive, and not necessarily as formally structured. It can be subject to more digression. Establishing trust is as much a key element as the materials used to further knowledge, consolidate ability, and deepen understanding.

Qualifications:
Level 5 TEFL Diploma
M.A. TESOL
M.A.International Relations
B.A. Humanities
