Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Primary teacher. For the past two years I have been living in Japan teaching ESL, my youngest students were two and my eldest students were 83. I met and taught a wide range of people which always made my teaching experiences interesting and fun. I am fun and friendly, I take teaching English seriously but always adapt and present the lesson to each student differently in order to make it as fun as possible but with maximum learning output for each student.

Teaching Experience:

I studied Primary Education for four years, during this time I had many placements in primary schools around Scotland.
I taught as a qualified teacher for one year in Dumfries and Galloway.
I worked in Japan for two years, I spent one year teaching in a private English conversation school in the north of Japan. My youngest student being two and the eldest eighty three. Here I taught group lessons of up to four people. I also did special travel and tourism lessons preparing students who were going to study abroad.
I then spent six months as a lead teacher in an international preschool, here I taught all academic subjects through english to Japanese children. English was there second language.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very fun and friendly approach as I like to make the atmosphere of the lesson as relaxed as possible. I feel that if the teacher and student are both relaxed learning will be more effective, however I do take teaching seriously. I will adapt all lessons to the individual student and more than welcome feedback, be it positive or negative. In order to adapt the next lesson for the student.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am a trained science teacher with 15 plus years of teaching experience from KS2 to A-level. When my children were young, I became a laboratory technician in a school to save taking piles of books home of an evening. I am currently working at a local prep school, preparing children for school entrance exams and Common Entrance papers.

Teaching Experience:

I have 15 years of full time teaching experience, teaching science to GCSE and Biology and Chemistry to A-level. During that time I have been a SATs exam marker and have experience of marking scholarship and common entrance papers. I have experience of a range of exam boards and entrance examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed yet professional approach. I will deliver tuition based upon each individuals preferred learning style. I would hope to quickly establish current understanding and use this as a foundation to build upon. Due to my experience as a laboratory technician, my approach is both practical and theoretical. If tuition is required for examination purposes I would concentrate on developing my pupil's exam technique by doing past paper questions to build their confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual. An initial meeting establishes the student's needs and the direction tuition should take. We then begin work on a programme of study which focuses on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness in some cases we conduct a diagnostic test .
I set regular mile stones/homework and assignments - the quantity varying with how much time the student has - and give feedback the following session.

Tuition generally runs as an independent course running parallel to and complementing what the student is doing at college or university. The programme of study is flexible enough so that we can focus on any upcoming assessments. As the exam or submission date approaches, the focus shifts towards report writing and exam techniques and looking at past papers.

I offer short-term and log term tuition when there is availability, students generally come for a good part of an academic year, often longer.
Over time, I've become convinced that private tuition works not just because of the one-to-one teaching, but because of the relationship between student and tutor. My students generally see significant improvement in their work, and sometimes their results are quite spectacular!
