Personal Description: I consider myself as an ambassador of Italian culture and language and I strongly believe that studying a foreign language is an incredibly enriching experience that can really widen and improve your world. I started learning languages when I was six and I will probably never stop. In my spare time I love reading, watching movies and going to farmers' markets. |
Teaching Experience: I started teaching Italian as a foreign language while studying languages and literatures at university. I kept teaching part-time for 3 years to students of various ages and levels until I graduated. I then pursued a career in advertising: I worked as copywriter and trainer of new employees for 6 years. I had the opportunity to train new colleagues from all over Europe. I loved training so much that I decided to go back to language teaching, but full-time. I completed my teacher training at the London Italian Cultural Institute, where I achieved my TIAFL Certificate (Teacher of Italian as a Foreign Language). I am currently working as part-time private Italian tutor in North London. |
Tutoring Approach: My teaching is student-centred: this means that I plan lessons according to my learners' level, needs and interests. Lessons are completely in Italian and are designed according to the principles of the communicative method, which makes authentic Italian material the starting point that will lead students to explore and discover the language in a spontaneous way. You will be learning Italian and Italian culture through different texts and activities. My resources are the latest Italian learning text books, but also literature, songs, videos, articles and games. Guided by the student's objectives, we will be working on all language abilities: speaking, writing, listening and reading, in order to promote a full and enjoyable learning process. |

Personal Description: James is a freelance theatre director who trained at RADA and the Kings Head Theatre in London. I have directed several theatre productions at drama schools, fringe and off-west end theatres. As an Associate Director, I have worked in the West End on numerous productions including The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe and the Olivier and Grammy-nominated Amelie The Musical. I have also worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company as an Assistant Director on their sell-out show A Christmas Carol starring Adrien Edmondson. |
Teaching Experience: In my early career I taught at Theatrix Performing Arts School and directed students through Trinity College London acting examinations as well as public performances. My students achieved a 100% pass rate with Merits or Distinctions in their performance examinations. Theatrix recently gained notoriety after alumni Ambika Mod starred in the hit Netflix television series One Day. I have been a guest director at three drama schools including Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Drama Studio London and Court Theatre Training Company. |
Tutoring Approach: I focus predominantly on text analysis when working with students on the practical and performance aspects of theatre. I use exercises, improvisations and games to engage them with the scenes they are working on. I try to facilitate a students' personal creativity when working with them on theoretical theatre work; I encourage them to use their own ideas and opinions. It is my view that theatre is not objective, so allowing personal style is very important. |

Personal Description: I have a Physics degree from Cambridge and still maintain an active and deep interest in the subject. Among my hobbies is close harmony singing - I run a mixed local singing group and have travelled widely in pursuit of musical excellence. I also appreciate the countryside and am happy to live, and walk, in a beautiful part of our country. |
Teaching Experience: My introduction to tutoring came through successfully helping my sons through their A-levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. The experience inspired me to look into tutoring as an alternative occupation, and, for the last couple of years, I have been pleased to take on other students. I now work part-time in software development but love teaching and find tutoring very rewarding. Generally, most of my students are working their way through their A-levels but I can also help out up to University level, either with preparation for entrance exams (e.g PAT, NSAA, STEP), or with some of the topics encountered in Maths / Physics / Engineering courses. I also do occasional work at GCSE level in these subjects. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to treat students as individuals with differing needs. For some the key is to develop a solid understanding - subject knowledge tends to build on itself, and those who miss basic points in class can often find themselves slipping behind, feeling lost and not able to cope. For others, it involves digging deeper into the subject to perhaps make connections that weren`t at first apparent. At all levels, I have found that guided questioning and encouraging students to think through their own difficulties is very effective. It is very pleasing to see the spark of light when an idea hits home. And once the basics are established, of course, the key to success is practice, and the development of exam technique. Personal Description: A family man with a deep interest in understanding the histories, forces and emotions that inspire humans to believe and act as they do, placing events in their cultural, historical and geographical context. I also have a passion for experiencing, understanding, preserving and enhancing the natural world around us, particularly ornithology. I enjoy sport, especially cricket and rugby (both codes), love Country music and bow to few people in my knowledge of the work of Bruce Springsteen. |
Teaching Experience: 18 years teaching experience at GCSE and A Level at a Midlands secondary school Range of topics taught across different examination boards at GCSE and A Level Experienced examination marker, so In understand what examination boards are looking for Tutored for Warwickshire 11+ examinations Excellent verbal and written communication skills (9 years in journalism and PR before teaching) |
Tutoring Approach: Firstly what does the tutee want to gain from the experience? What are they willing to commit to achieve this? Understanding the tutee and their needs is crucial. They are looking for a tutor for a reason so it is important to understand fully what barriers there are to their learning that mean a tutor is seen as necessary. Once I know what a tutee wants and why they need my help, we can develop a programme to overcome those specific barriers. If tutoring is needed to pass an examination, then we need to work on the tutee's understanding of their studies, placing topics in a broader context using real world examples and analogies that mean something to the tutee which is where my skills as a communicator come into play. Secondly we have to work together to understand how to convert that deeper understanding into examination success, looking at the specific demands of examinations and how the individual tutee can best approach them. Through all this there needs to be a relationship where the tutee feels they are enjoying and benefiting from the process, so a sense of humour and patience is needed from both parties. After a long day at school a tutee needs to enjoy the tutoring process if they are to engage with it so laughter and light-hearted conversation is a healthy part of the process. |
