I fell in love with the French language at an early age and went on to complete an honours degree in French Studies at the University of Birmingham. Teaching Experience:
Since 2010, I have been tutoring in the academic subjects Maths and the individual Sciences; Biology, Chemistry & Physics.

I have taught at both primary- and secondary-school levels, with my students ranging between the ages of 6 and 16.

I can also help with entrance examinations for secondary school (including verbal and non-verbal reasoning), and I have provided mentorship and coaching when it comes to UCAS application forms, personal statements and CV writing.

Whilst I enjoyed some of the subjects at school, certain subjects and topics (including Maths!) didn't come naturally to me. I achieved 7A*s and 5A*s at GCSE, and went on to study Biology, Chemistry & Maths at A-Level.

Tutoring Approach:
As I have already mentioned, I have a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and my tutoring approach is a student-centred one. My experiences covers tutoring, mentoring and coaching and I use a combination of the three in my work.

I am yet to come across a student who doesn't possess the potential to improve. More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Through the 1-to-1 work I do with students, not only have I witnessed some remarkable grade improvements but also some amazing transformations in confidence. I strongly feel that the work I do is more than merely improving grades for exams.

⭐ My philosophy is that if you are struggling with a particular subject or topic, it's not your fault and there's nothing wrong with you. It simply means you've not been taught in a way that makes sense to you (or you've not been given the time and attention to be taught properly - in a big class and with the pressures of working through an extensive curriculum).

I am extremely proud of my students results in the first year of the new 9-1 GCSE's. All 14 final year students passed their maths exam at a grade 4 or above. One of my pupils who was in set two at a local school achieved the highest possible grade (9) only 3000 of these grades were given nationally. Four of my students were bottom set of next to bottom set and all passed. Two being the only pupils in their class to pass the GCSE.

I am a fully qualified experienced maths teacher with a BSc in Mathematics. I have experience in intervention and one to one tutoring within a high school setting, delivering the intervention sessions in one high school and taking the responsibility of intervention coordinator in another. I have also prepared small groups of pupils for Further/Additional Maths at GCSE Level. I have been very successful in improving under achieving students to achieve their target grade both as a tutor and teacher. For example I took over a GCSE class which was a bottom set who I started teaching at the start of year 11. At that point the highest grade in the class was a grade F. By the end of the year everyone improved significantly and several gained a grade C. As a father I know how important our children achieving their best is to all parents.

Teaching Experience:
During my teaching career I have taught in 4 different high schools including schools with a sixth form. My first post was in a Lancashire High school where I was responsible for the intervention in Mathematics which involves helping small groups of pupils who are below target in Mathematics. My last GCSE group all achieved grade A*-C. (set 2 of 6)

My next post was in a Sefton High School and sixth form where I was responsible for organising and running intervention. My GCSE group (set 5/bottom set) all achieved at least three levels of progress from their starting point and 3 pupils achieved a grade C (This was above their target grade).

In my final year I was teaching 3 GCSE classes. A higher group in which all achieved B-A* as well as a vocational group and a bottom set where some pupils achieved grade C and others made their expected progress.

I have tutored both in school and privately with a lot of success. One example was a private student who came to me having achieved a grade F at the end of year 10. A year later she achieved a C in her GCSE exam. Successes from the exam results in 2016 include an A level student moving from a E to a B. A GCSE student moving from an F to a C who I started tutoring in February. Another GCSE pupil moving from a C to an A.

I am fully up to date with the changes in exams at GCSE Level for the new 9-1 GCSE`s and the changes in the sats for Primary school pupils.

Tutoring Approach:
I want all my students to be able to develop their understanding of mathematics rather than just learning how to answer a question. I try to work with their class teacher in following the methods they are being taught at school but also realise that different methods may be appropriate if they are struggling. I set homework weekly which is assessed at the start each session unless it is a longer piece or exam paper which is taken away and marked and brought back to the next session. I plan topics which are linked to previous learning in order to develop the bigger picture of mathematics but have excellent subject knowledge so I'm able to change my plan if the student wishes to look at another area that might have arisen as a problem in school/college. I also like my students to be proactive and get in touch if they wish to cover a particular topic which wasn't mentioned at the end of the previous session. I have a good relationship with all the people I tutor, they are at ease to ask questions and praise is central to help raise confidence. ¡Hola! I am Alba. I was born in the south of Spain and have lived there for the majority of my life. I did Spanish Studies as a degree in Huelva (near Seville), and later enrolled in an MA for Spanish Teaching as a Foreign Language in my home town, Granada. I then moved to the UK to work as an Assistant Teacher of Spanish in London, which led me to taking the PGCE course and acquiring Qualified Teacher Status. I am currently a teacher of Spanish at Secondary level in inner Birmingham.

I find that most students are capable of learning the content of the GCSE or A level syllabus, can remember the main concepts, but struggle to write a coherent A grade essay. If this is your weakness, then I will focus on developing your essay writing skills and I have lots of resources which I use to do this.
I understand that some of the economics and business concepts can be quite complex and some of the diagrams challenging, so I will be very patient with you and will make sure you fully understand every topic in the syllabus. I am educated to Masters level, in Design & Media Arts from the University of Westminster and hold a PGCE in teaching certificate, from the University of Greenwich.

Teaching Experience:
I first taught Art and Photography to adult SEN students, as well as teaching City & Guilds Photography evening classes for adults. I progressed to BTEC course co-ordinator and lecturer for two years at Richmond-upon-Thames College, also teaching A level film studies and media.

I became BTEC Media Team Leader at Harrow College teaching Level 2 and 3 in 2004, focusing on vocational aspects such as creating music videos, documentaries, adverts, final major projects, from practical to theoretical. I also co-ordinated and taught the A Level Film Studies course using WJEC specification, teaching a range of film theoretical and practical, from French New Wave, British Film, US film comparisons and World Cinema, with an emphasis on exam practice.

I have taught A level Film and Media at private institutions such as Chelsea Independent college, Duff Miller, and more recently at Harrow College on vocational courses such as the UAL Creative Media course, as well as adult photography courses . I have also worked as a media and literary specialist with SEN learners part time whilst still teaching film/media, improving their literacy, comprehension and grammar.

I have also taught English to adult learners from abroad, correcting their pronunciation and grammar, with general conversations about daily life, culture and news.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe all students need the additional support from an individual perspective, tailoring the lessons according to each students' needs throughout each stage of their course and help prepare them for exams and coursework requirements.

This enables my students to reach the highest grades and to progress successfully.

I will prepare you and guide you through your course, to help you understand the units you are being taught, check through any coursework before submitting, advise you on using subject terminology to enhance your grades and to check for any mistakes through proof reading. Any assignments set by your school/college/university can be discussed and worked on to develop your skills.
