Personal Description:
I'm an Oxford graduate English specialist who helps students achieve top grades in their English GCSEs and A-Levels.

I know exactly what the mark scheme is looking for, and have helped multiple students exceed their expectations.

***"Thank you so much for all your tips and advice - I ended up getting 9s in both English GCSEs!" - STUDENT H***

I particularly enjoy working with ambitious, hardworking students who might not yet have understood how to excel. I was one of these students.

But everything changed when I got a private tutor at the age of 15. With their support, I scored 100% in my English GCSEs, 99% in English A Level, and went on to study English at St John's College, Oxford.

So, it's out of immense gratitude to my own teachers (and my younger self for persisting through the anxiety and disappointment) that I try and show my students that success is well within their reach.

***"Thank you for your help: it really helped me get the 9! It's still sinking in, I can't believe it" - STUDENT D***

***"Ankit is an amazing tutor. He boosted my son by 3 grades. I recommend Ankit to anyone who wants a tutor: Ankit really goes above and beyond to teach his students" - HAMID (Parent)***

Teaching Experience:

***"The results are here and I got a 9 in Literature and an 8 (2 marks off a 9) in Language. These were also my highest grades" - STUDENT E***

I've been an English tutor for nearly five years, following my education under award-winning professors, tutors, and teachers who shaped the foundation of everything I now teach.

Over the last 5 years, I've taught OCR, Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA English GCSE, and OCR and AQA English A Level.

Set texts that I've taught include:
- Macbeth
- A Christmas Carol
- Inspector Calls
- Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
- Lord of the Flies
- Power and Conflict Poetry
- Love and Relationships Poetry
- Romeo and Juliet
- Songs of Ourselves (Anthology)
- Never Let Me Go
- The War of the Worlds
- Pride and Prejudice
- The Woman in Black
- I'm the King of the Castle
- Antony and Cleopatra
- The Great Gatsby
- Othello
- Hamlet
- Richard II
- Paradise Lost
- Frankenstein
- The Bloody Chamber
- Skirrid Hill
- The Handmaid's Tale
- A Streetcar Named Desire
- Top Girls
- Romantic Poetry
- The Duchess of Malfi
- Of Mice and Men

However, my degree covered literature written from when English first became a language to the modern day. So simply let me know what you're studying and I'll be able to teach it.

***"I learnt more with you in 2 hours than I did in a whole year from my teachers" - STUDENT K***

Tutoring Approach:

***"I got an 8 in Literature (I never thought I would EVER get that in Year 10) and a 7 in Language. I'm even taking English for A Level! Sincerely, thank you for everything. I'm forever grateful!" - STUDENT A***

My lessons balance challenge with warmth. I teach through discussion, questioning, high-level ideas and regular homework.

***"I couldn't be happier with the progress my son had made under Ankit's guidance, which has helped him reach grade 9. What sets Ankit apart is his patience and encouragement, which has really boosted my son's confidence"*** - VIJI (Parent)

I break English down into clear systems: top-band writing templates, essay formulas, and exam strategies tailored to the student's board and mark scheme. Together, we build ready-to-use paragraphs and flexible arguments that adapt to almost any question with the goal of reducing uncertainty, building fluency and writing material the examiners want to reward.

***"Ankit helped my dyslexic son at both GCSE and A Level. His manner with students is warm and engaging, and he has a lovely sense of humour - all of which makes such a difference in 1-2-1 settings. I thoroughly recommend him - CLAIR (Parent) ***

Personal Description:
I am a creative, energetic and empathetic individual, keen to help students achieve their potential by enabling them to identify areas of development, strategies to overcome challenges and also by supporting them in acknowledging their achievements.

My arts background has contributed to my person-centred approach in focusing on an individual and how they can celebrate their unique strengths, which I feel is integral in order to be able to work on developing areas of challenge. I also feel that enables me to use my sense of humour, both to make content engaging and relatable, as well as breaking any ice, particularly when dealing with challenging topics.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 4 years in various further education environments, both paid and voluntarily. I have taught GCSE English for 2 academic years, both on the pre-2016 and post-2016 AQA syllabuses as well as on the Cambridge IGCSE specifications, as well as advising students studying OCR, EDEXCEL and Pearson specifications.
I have also delivered literacy classes for adults working between entry-level 2 and level 1 functional skills. Additionally I have ran employability workshops, and devised relevant activities to help engage and empower the learners.
My most recent employment experience has been as a Dyslexia Study Skills Support tutor in higher education, primarily working with DSA funded students, helping them identify areas of development, setting SMART goals, and working on developing strategies to help them progress with their respective programmes. I have also worked as a 1:1 study support tutor within further education, focusing on developing literacy and numeracy, as well as time management and assignment reviewing.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel it is absolutely vital to apply a person-centred approach to tutoring - the student must be supported in identifying their areas of development, and I feel one of my key roles is to work with the student to set targets and goals, identifying what to work on, and how this can be achieved, as well as setting a realistic time scale, which will enable me to devise a broad scheme of work.

Each session I deliver will have clears aims and objectives, and will link to the targets and goals I will have set with the student. I feel it is important to give the student as much opportunity as possible to independently pursue solutions, and will support them in doing so. I also acknowledge the importance of plenary and review activities in order for the student to be able to measure the value-added in learning from their session.

Personal Description:
My name is Kat, and I am a qualified nurse currently pursuing PhD study following working as a Practice Development Nurse at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

I live in the beautiful village of Brill, Buckinghamshire, with my 2 year old son, and my husband who splits his time between Brill and Germany. We enjoy being outside, music and eating good food.

I have a passion for people, seeing them realise their potential and exceed their goals. I was a tutor with UK Tutors during my nursing training in 2010-2012, and can't wait to meet new some new tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a range of education / developmental / teaching roles throughout my career, and through delivering education in a variety of settings and through different media I have gained skills which allow me to really focus on the needs of my individual tutees, their current levels of understanding and their end goals.

Curriculum Support Assistant at King Edward VI High School, Morpeth, Northumberland

- Through this role I also lead classes for Year 10 PHSE

Peer Support Educator with Sexpression charity
- Delivering sex and relationships education to a range of student groups, from puberty and basic reproduction to young pupils in schools, to contraception advice and sexual health to university students

Online mentor with Brightside charity

Mentor / Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor (Nursing)

- Provision of practical skills sessions for registered and non-registered practitioners

Practice Development Nurse
- Overseeing staff training needs across Gynaecology, delivery of a range of teaching sessions, including clinical skills, anatomy and physiology, coaching/mentoring-type supervision, professional practice

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring is a partnership, and not lead solely by the tutor. Encouraging tutees to take the lead ensures a truly personal education and ensures holistic learning. The tutee is the only person who knows what they really want to achieve and I work with people to firstly understand their goals, and then make realistic and attainable targets in order to reach those goals.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am a young entrepreneur who spent 17 years in France, going through French tuition, while being homeschooled in English, making me perfectly bilingual. After obtaining my baccalauréat with 80% (Mention Bien), I studied briefly, and transitioned into business straight away. As my company is still young and growing, a part-time job is still very much necessary for me. As a result, I would love to teach young English students my main language, instead of getting an ordinary part-time job.

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience teaching languages, I had 3 students throughout my college years (French students being taught English). I was able to see what teaching techniques work well, how students' personalities massively affect the approach, and I helped them achieve their goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student should be taught in a different way - everyone responds differently to certain approaches. I think students generally need to take a close look at the basics, before moving onto more advanced structured and phrases. But, ultimately, my approach will depend on the particular goal - if the goal is to do better in school, we must focus on what the teachers want. If the goal is speak great French, like a native French person, speaking, practicing, and listening is the key.
