Personal Description:
I am an experienced tutor and have worked in the Further Education (FE) sector since 2007.

I am married with 2 children - one at primary school and one at secondary school (moving into GCSE year). I have a wide range of interests, including the theatre, gardening, swimming, walking and reading.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked for Wiltshire College since 2007, teaching Skills for Life, Functional Skills (English) and English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL). I currently work part-time.

I have worked with students ranging in: age (16+ to 65), ability (levels up to and including GCSE equivalence), educational experience, nationality and cultural background.

I am also a qualified teaching assistant and have experience supporting primary age children (in a voluntary capacity).

Tutoring Approach:

My style is relaxed and informal, and my approach is to offer students a personalised learning experience, which addresses individual needs and aspirations. I aim to work in partnership with my students and am open to supporting specific areas of interest or need (e.g. work-related topics, using ICT or engaging in conversational English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)).

I use a range of learning resources, including the Internet, and provide additional handouts on the topics covered, which can be used to practise skills outside of tutored sessions, should students wish to do so. I feel that I am, by nature, supportive, encouraging and patient, and my aim is to provide a fun, friendly environment where students can progress and achieve at their own pace.

Qualifications:
Certificate in Education (Cert Ed)
Certificate in English Teaching to Adults (CELTA)
Diploma Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Additional Literacy) - DTLLS (Add Lit)

Personal Description:
I am currently studying English Literature at the University of Edinburgh. I love reading, writing and reading some more. I also enjoy sketching while listening to music. I am a frank person, have an straightforward approach to everything in life and like people to behave the same way with me (which always does not happen). I love to have a laugh, but don't worry, I can be serious when needed( for example, when teaching your children English and History).

Teaching Experience:

While I have never tutored for money, I have an extensive tutoring experience. I volunteered to teach illiterate students English as a part of a volunteering program from my high school in India and have been a part of that program for the past two years. I also used to tutor my two siblings in History, Geography and English.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that children learn best in a stress free environment. If they feel it is fun and challenging, they will be more willing to learn than if they feel it to be an obligation. English is an easy subject and children enjoy learning it, once they realize the joys that English has to offer. History can be challenging due to the vast amounts one has to learn by heart but steady habit of writing down answers to questions helps more than reading the material ten times. Other than that, History is a vastly interesting subject which helps us understand the workings of the present society and of course, knowledge about our ancestors. Geography is relatively straightforward subject. A lot of practice and a dedicated perusal of it should be enough to get good scores. While it can be relatively dry, it can be made interesting with pictures and videos.I focus on exam technique, past papers as well as text work (English Lit.)

Qualifications:
I scored 91 out of 100 in English in the Indian equivalent to A-levels of U.K and got accepted to The University Of Edinburgh based on this mark.
In History and Geography I got 85 out of 100 in the same exam.

Personal Description:
I'm a retired secondary school maths teacher.
I still like to share my enthusiasm and fascination for maths with students of all ages, but my main area of expertise is GCSE Mathematics (all exam boards).

Teaching Experience:

I taught GCSE Mathematics for 10 years in Shropshire schools. During that time I took advantage of all training and professional development opportunities available to me and completed two Open University Mathematics courses.
I've been offering maths tuition, up to GCSE, to secondary school students, for over two years now, very successfully.

Tutoring Approach:

I have the flexibility and experience to tailor my tuition to the needs of students.
I like to build skills and confidence in maths with a relaxed, light-hearted, but determined approach.
I give students time to think, and freedom to ask questions without fear or embarrassment.
I hope to foster a positive approach to maths and help students achieve their potential.

Personal Description:
I am an 18 year old student about to attend the University of Warwick to study Accounting and Finance (BSc) in October. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at A Level where I received A*AAB respectively. I am an outgoing person who likes meeting new people.

During my freetime, I play the guitar, badminton and game on the PC.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped teach at 3 different occassions.

My most recent experience was helping my school's maths department with students who were struggling with maths problems (from past papers or homework) during lunch time.

I also helped with my school's "maths masterclass" which involved discussing and teaching off curiculum material to talented year 6 pupils on a regular basis.

Finally, I was a teaching assistant at a primary school on thursday afternoons at a primary school, where I taught maths to students of ages 6-11.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an open, enthusastic and energetic, and I think this reflects best in my teaching style; I don't like to just teach maths that is on the curriculum. Since maths is most often a means to an end for solving problems, I will apply the maths that is taught to real life applications for the tutee.

I have also experienced how to do maths the Chinese way, and the British way for certain methods. Thus, I have great experience in mathematical methods that I can share.

Finally, I have a wide range of materials that can be used as teaching material (such as textbooks and additional exercises.

Personal Description:
I am a physics graduate with a Doctorate in Quantum Mechanics. I work as a consultant decision and risk analyst. This is where maths and structured thinking brings solutions to real-world problems. Experience in industry enables me to explain maths and physics in a way that may not be available in the classroom.

Teaching Experience:

I have been coaching Mathematics and Physics for 8 years. I have worked with my own children through the SQA exam system. I have been involved in the development of junior chess in North East Scotland, coaching primary and secondary students. In business, I have mentored junior colleagues and coached many technical training programmes.
References from previous students can be provided.

Tutoring Approach:

I commit to working diligently with my students to ensure each individual reaches his/her highest attainment in their life defining NAT5 and Higher exams. Performance coaching is about getting information across in a way that is understandable and compelling. Exam technique cannot be underestimated and much of my coaching uses exam level examples.
My approach is pro-active, showing my students the 'bigger picture' and methods to work smarter.
I use recommended SQA resources. Students complete worksheets which are marked and worked solutions are provided for students to review ahead of the next session. The coaching then focuses on gaps in understanding.
I commit to being contactable by my students at any time, weekends, weekdays and evenings to help with any questions. As such, your investment in one hour of coaching is more than just a once-a-week 'hello, goodbye, see you next week'. It is a continuous source of support.
If you are looking for good access to support on a one-to-one basis, please contact me to discuss.
