Personal Description:
I am married with three grown up children, several chickens and a dog.
I am a regular churchgoer, a supporter of Newcastle United (I know...) and a friendly and outgoing person.
I drive my fully restored Morris Minor whenever I can, leaving the modern car for my wife and daughter. Apart from that I am quite normal!

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher of RE at secondary level, being Head of RE and SMSC at a local non selective school. As such I am well used to teaching and supporting students of all abilities and with all kinds of needs and baggage.
In addition to teaching I mark GCSE papers for the AQA exam board which gives me a significant insight into examination requirements and technique. My latest school results were an almost 25% A* to A pass rate from a non selective cohort of over 200 students.
Before entering the teaching profession I spent 20 years in Christian youth ministry, which does not colour my tutoring, but does give me a uniquely thorough knowledge of Christianity in particular.

Tutoring Approach:

I am relaxed and friendly, able to get alongside even the most reluctant of students and persuade them to learn.
I believe enjoyment and relevance are the key attractions to students, qualities often perceived to be lacking in the subject. I like to be topical and humorous, whilst also being organised and firm in my approach.

Qualifications:
1st class honours degree in Humanities with RE

Personal Description:
My passion for Art, Crafts and Design has been of paramount importance to me and sharing my knowledge and skills to all learners in these subjects.I have been drawing, painting and designing for over 40 years. I qualified as a Printed Textile Designer from Polytechnic of East London, on the BA Hons in Combined Studies Course.

From this I gained a valuable insight into the fashion and textiles industry, working with design studios. My love for creating designs continued on to the Masters Degree course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, where I worked for Terence Conan Design Studios.

I developed an excellent rapport with artists and designers in the industry and decide, after several years of working for top high Street retailers as a fashion and textile designer, to build my own company up whilst teaching in Further Education. I became Head of the Fashion and Textiles Course in a top London college. Here all my students on the BTEC Diploma Level 3 and Level 4 courses gained work placements with Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes and many more. Many entered into their first choice Universities with my knowledge of putting their portfolios together and teaching life drawings to accompany their portfolios.

After having taught Fashion, Textiles and Art and Design for many years, I decided to challenge my other passion in Fitness. With my qualifications as Tutor and Assessor, I began delivering gym and personsal training courses to 16 to 18 year olds and 19 plus learners.

Currently, I am delivering mixed-media techniques to all age groups and organisations. I love what I do and love seeing my participants flourish.

All lessons will involve practical sessions, to include drawing techniques, perspective and visual skills, along with demonstrations handouts with overviews of the lesson and some homework for the next class (eg. Recording visual drawings, research and ideas in a sketchbook with specific tasks. Annotations will also be encouraged in sketchbook work.

Depending on age groups and examining boards, we will focus on how to achieve best results to prepare for exam situations, as well as for portfolio preparations and interviews.

Materials will be provided by the learner, however, I will be able to suggest what to purchase, and bring materials to experiement with if they are not readily available.

Most importantly, lessons will be tailored to your child's or your personal needs. Suggested visits to certain museums, events will be beneficial and discussed during the lessons, when appropriate. Contextual Studies will be looked at initially to have a better understanding of the subject or project devised.

Personal Description:
I graduated in 2017 with a First-Class Honours degree, BSc. (Hons), in Chemistry. At university, I was awarded a prize for best BSc Chemist in my cohort. I then went on to complete a PGCE with one of the UK's leading teaching institutions, Star Academies, and QTS granted by University of Cumbria.
At present, I am teaching KS3 and KS4 Science at a secondary school. My students enjoy the challenging activities which I set them to stimulate their intellect and improve their understanding of the subject. I like to deliver interactive lessons in which they are working together or figuring things out themselves. I work hard to build a positive relationship with each pupil and I take pleasure in sharing scientific knowledge and experience with my students. I strive to make each learner confident in the subject and am keen to see them reach their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst teaching Science at a secondary school for six years, I have successfully tutored students of lower ability and brought them up to achieving higher than expected results, while building their confidence in the areas in which they were struggling. Whilst teaching mid / higher ability students, I have ensured they achieve the highest grades.

Tutoring Approach:

Looking at feedback from my mentors and students, I am very good at teaching new concepts. I believe I have excellent communication skills and am most approachable and accessible. Having a thorough understanding of my subject, I believe I will be able to pass on this knowledge to my students. By studying the sciences at 'A Level', followed by specialising in Chemistry at university, I believe I have the skill-set to combine my in-depth knowledge and understanding to help students excel.
I use a range of tasks, engaging activities and visuals to aid understanding of complex topic areas. I begin lessons with a recap of the previous session to ascertain knowledge base and understanding. Thereafter, the teaching of new concepts and finishing off with homework, including exam-style questions to consolidate learning. Review of previous work is one of my main methods of making sure the work has been grasped; whilst it enables me to see whether the content has been understood or there is a need for further assistance.
I would discuss the subject areas which the student would want to cover and work hard to ensure that they gain a firm understanding of the given topic.
My goal is to help the student progress by building their confidence and to learn from their mistakes.
My role is to assist students and provide support to their learning, engage them and stimulate their minds in the world of science. I hope to help them by setting realistic targets and achievable tasks whilst giving them constructive feedback and supporting them when needed.
I aim to make them feel comfortable (through encouragement and praise) in asking questions, clarifying problems and obtaining the knowledge needed to pass their exams with flying colours.
I believe patience is important so, even though students may take time grasping the work, I will repeat and go over things thoroughly. My students know I am friendly and approachable, and I teach in a way that creates a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.
I am confident that I can support my learners to enjoy, achieve and excel in Science.

Qualifications:
PGCE & QTS in Science
