Personal Description: I'm a keen sports fan and to keep fit I play football, squash, cycle and run. I love to travel when I get the chance and am lucky enough to have visited over twenty countries. |
Teaching Experience: I've been teaching sine 1998 both overseas and more recently, back home in the UK. Since returning home, I have mainly been teaching EAP, helping overseas students achieve the level of English they need to enter their desired university course. |
Tutoring Approach: I think that finding out the student's motivation to learn English is very important and then trying to plan lessons and courses to suit their interests and needs. I'm available to teach students in their homes, or in public places such a the library or a coffee shop. |

Personal Description: As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives. Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years. I am extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught. My students like me and can sense that I want the very best outcome for them, and understand they are under pressure to succeed, and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends. Since March 2020 I have tutored online using Skype, Zoom, Bramble and MS Teams. This way of tutoring is surprisingly effective and time-saving, with results as good as in-person tuition, something I probably would not have discovered if it were not for lockdown, as before then I always tutored in person. |
Teaching Experience: As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex. I recently completed two terms at Farnborough College of Technology as a Physics lecturer. I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards. In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry. |
Tutoring Approach: I appreciate that for most students, private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework. Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. Experience has shown that students can expect learning progress with an experienced tutor such as myself to be without exaggeration, 2-4 times faster than could be made in a typical school classroom, whilst simultaneously gaining a fuller understanding of the topics covered. |

Personal Description: Working as a sales director several years ago I one day realised that the only part of my work I really enjoyed was the training. As I had worked in different countries where the language for business was English I decided to become an English teacher and acquired a TESOL cert. It was quite tough to do as a native French speaker! My family and I finally decided to stay in the UK and I now teach French more often than English as a second language. I do not mind which I teach but I really enjoy helping others become more confident and competent in another language. |
Teaching Experience: Extensive experience teaching French "in company" for a language school in London. French after-school clubs. SCOLA (Sutton college for adult education) French tutor. Le Club Francais licensee. Tutoring all age groups, conversation classes. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that language is about communication first and knowledge second, so I like to work by encouraging the student to use what he or she knows rather than always try to learn more. The latter is of course necessary but generally I find that not enough practice time is given to students to consolidate their learning. Secondly, I try to adapt to the student, their learning style. I once got very good results (GCSE French "B") with a dislexic boy by reasoning that if he could speak English well there had to be a way he could do well in French. We talked a lot. |

Personal Description: I am a very experienced English Language teacher from Inverness in Scotland, and I am currently teaching in a busy language school in Oxford. I want to teach private students in my flat, and I am happy to teach students from beginner to advanced levels, as well as Ielts/Toefl and Cambridge (FCE/CAE/CPE)exams. I am happy to teach individuals or groups. I love sports, photography, music and socialising and I want to help new students progress as far they can in English. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching in my current job in Oxford for almost 7 years now, previous to that I taught business English in Madrid for 2 months and also 2 years in 3 different schools in north and central Poland, as well as at Cambridge University for International summer schools. I have particular expertise in Exam teaching, but I'm happy to teach anything with grammar, vocabulary, conversation - anything that the student needs i will do my best to help with. |
Tutoring Approach: I am happy to have groups or individuals, and will do my best to help the student with whatever they need. I want students to have fun but also learn a lot from my classes, and assist them in whatever they need. |

Personal Description: I have been tutoring GCSE English for many years in a college. I keep up to date with current changes in the syllabus and regularly attend training with my organisation. My last observation resulted in an outstanding grade. I am used to working with groups of students and giving 1 to 1 tuition. I believe that constructive feedback is the key to progress and would expect my student to complete homework so that I can monitor understanding. I have a vast range of resources and also use IT. |
Teaching Experience: As well as tutoring I am an assistant principal examiner for one of the large examination boards. This gives me invaluable insight into how the exam is marked and I have many past papers to use as a resource. I also examine for other exam boards so I am aware of the different mark schemes. I currently teach GCSE English language papers 1 and 2 and English Literature. I am pleased to confirm that the students I have tutored achieved the higher grades that they needed! |
Tutoring Approach: My focus is on the learner. I will identify areas of weakness and focus on these aiming to raise the level of responses. I think learning should be interactive and will encourage self assessment to improve work. I have lots of examples of past questions for practise. I would expect my student to attend sessions regularly and on time and stick to deadlines for completing homework. |

Personal Description: I am an enthusiastic and very experienced Maths teacher living and working in Portsmouth. Over the years I have developed a wide range of strategies to engage learners of all ability levels as they prepare for their GCSE and A-level qualifications. I have had many successful classes in over 30 years of teaching and am able to bring this wealth of experience to the one-to-one sessions that I offer through UK Tutors. |
Teaching Experience: I spent the first 18 years of my career teaching in a Sixth Form College in South East Hampshire. I then moved to become Head of Maths at Caxton College which is the top British School in Valencia. Since returning to the UK 11 years ago I have taught at Independent Schools in Portsmouth. I am very experienced in delivering GCSE and A-level specifications and teach both Statistics and Mechanics. |
Tutoring Approach: I enjoy the challenge of breaking mathematical problems down to their basics so that learners of all abilities can access the content on GCSE and A-level specifications. In my experience, I have seen how pupils can get worked up about maths and this can create a mental block to the subject. I will never assume that a pupils knows a particular fact and will patiently work back to some foundational understanding before building concepts back up. I have amassed a variety of resources over the years and use these to explain the concepts that underly the subject at GCSE and A-level. I also have a plentiful supply of past paper resources which I work through with pupils in order for them to feel confident with the questions that they will face in exams. |
