I am a 21 year old Accounting graduate from the University of Worcesfer. I achieved a very high A* at GCSE Maths and C at A-Level Maths. I am friendly and approachable and have a passion from problem solving at any level of Maths.

Teaching Experience:
I have had plenty of experience teaching children in many times of my life. From coaching cricket to teaching English and Maths in Madagascar! Last year I also tutored Maths to my 10 year old step sister when she moved schools as she was finding it very difficult to adjust to teachings at her new school.

Tutoring Approach:
As Maths comes very naturally to me, my approach to tutoring has always been calm and friendly, as I am always very patient with each tutee. One of my best skills is being able to find different solutions to problems, and finding the best way for each individual person to learn a new skill that he/she might be struggling with. I can also adapt to any role, whether it is helping a person to keep up with class or homework studies, or to help them advance to the next level.

I have been tutoring GCSE English for many years in a college. I keep up to date with current changes in the syllabus and regularly attend training with my organisation. My last observation resulted in an outstanding grade. I am used to working with groups of students and giving 1 to 1 tuition. I believe that constructive feedback is the key to progress and would expect my student to complete homework so that I can monitor understanding.
I have a vast range of resources and also use IT.

Teaching Experience:
As well as tutoring I am an assistant principal examiner for one of the large examination boards. This gives me invaluable insight into how the exam is marked and I have many past papers to use as a resource. I also examine for other exam boards so I am aware of the different mark schemes.
I currently teach GCSE English language papers 1 and 2 and English Literature.

Tutoring Approach:
My focus is on the learner.

I will identify areas of weakness and focus on these aiming to raise the level of responses. I think learning should be interactive and will encourage self assessment to improve work. I understand that Accounting can be a difficult subject to master, with its own unique language and techniques, and I am able to explain topics clearly and patiently. I believe that interactive lessons are key to success and that learning comprises both explanation and practise. I can help students to overcome their anxiety about this subject and, through improved knowledge and understanding, increase their confidence. I am very familiar with the AQA specification, having attended relevant training sessions, and I know what's needed to achieve high marks on exam questions. Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to successful tutoring is to listen to what a student needs, and then to respond by providing support and guidance that target those particular areas. A key component of tutoring is explaining key terms and concepts and answering questions. Practise is vital in A-Level Accounting, and so I provide lots of opportunity for the tutee to answer accounting questions. I provide support during this, and feedback. Developing a good working relationship with the student is very important - the tutee needs to trust me to do a good job. I think I can provide this: I am patient, understanding, kind and considerate. I can offer these things in addition to the technical knowledge and skills that I have, and as a result, dramatically improve the tutee's chances of success in the A-Level Accounting exams.

All that I can say is that Ellie is fantastic. When she was teaching myself and my brother A Level Chemistry, she always gave short, concise explanations of concepts in a way that we easily understood. Also, she gave us past paper questions after each topic so that we had plenty of practice at exam technique. She marked these and sent us feedback on what to improve on. This meant that when it came around to do our exams, we were fully prepared for them and confident that we could do well. I had to use my knowledge of French to help one student who had not yet learnt to speak fluent English, translating the teacher's instructions for her and helping her with words she did not understand. Between 2009-10, I helped to run two after-school classes for Key Stage 2 pupils, one in Literacy and Art and another in Drama. This involved planning and delivering lessons to classes of about 5-10 children, and keeping them engaged with the topics they were learning through activities designed to both teach and entertain.

My experience of tutoring has shown me the importance of patience and respect in teaching. Especially in essay-based subjects, it is crucial that a teacher allows their pupils space to develop their own ideas, and respects their independent thought. Learning by rote has only limited usefulness: the best way to excel at a subject is to understand it, so I always explain concepts as fully as possible and move at the tutee's pace, making sure that they have properly grasped each concept or issue before moving on to the next. I have an exam question orientated approach as being able to interpret questions is vital. If you don't know what they are asking of you, how can you answer it properly? We will take your class notes and use them to construct the perfect exam answers. I will set you work to complete, which I will then mark and provide you with constructive feedback at the start of each session. In addition to you own notes I can supply you with new resources, workbooks and revision packs.
