We have about 50 students in each of years 12 and 13. 26 of our Physics students gained grade As at AS Level in 2006. 48% A and A* at A2 Level in June 2011. This is twice the Welsh average which puts us at the top of tree. 67% A*,A or B in 2012 in my class.Three of my students have won the Institute of Physics prize for the highest A Level marks in Wales with several gaining 600/600. In 2006 he received two nominations in the international Black and White Spider Awards for fine art and sport. I was not a great student as a child. Rigid and rote teaching sucked all the appreciation I might have had from learning. That is, until I returned to education in my late 20s and, over the course of two bachelor's and master's degrees, discovered just how rewarding it can be. Partly because of this reason (and partly because I simply love sharing knowledge!), I began a new career in teaching and for the past 9 years - with over 600 hours of teaching logged - I have made a point of injecting colour into a learning world that, for many students, has become drab and monochrome.

A little about me: I'm Shaun, an 24 year-old originally from Dulwich. I'm just finishing my first year of a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Bath, and I have a first-class MSci in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, where I also helped lead tutorials and peer-assisted study groups. After my undergraduate degree, I worked as a Specialist Junior Chemistry Demonstrator at the University of Oxford, where I gained my AFHEA accreditation (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). I have extensive experience teaching A-Level Chemistry, including supporting students who haven't taken A-Level Physics or Maths and therefore find the calculation-heavy topics tough. I offer the first lesson free, giving us the opportunity to discuss your goals and explore the best way to make each session effective and tailored to your needs.

My lessons are designed to support each student's personal progress. While I will guide the learning to bring out the best in you, I also welcome your input-whether you'd like to focus on grammar, conversation, culture, or specific questions.

I work with both short-term students who want to boost their confidence or clarify particular points, as well as long-term learners aiming for steady growth and fluency.

Personal Description:
I have a wealth of experience teaching A level Biology; I possess excellent communication skills which will facilitate an optimum online learning experience. I am a passionate, friendly and thorough teacher of Biology. My subject knowledge and understanding of the examinations set are outstanding. My organisational skills ensure that all tuitions are well planned and progress fluently from one lesson to the next. I have much experience with one-to-one A level tuition with students of a range of abilities. I have helped many students with their applications to Medicine and Dentistry.
I am currently not working in a full-time position as recently married and relocated (and enjoying life!) and therefore, I have much flexibility in terms of offering suitable time slots!

Teaching Experience:
I have 25 years of teaching A level Biology. I have worked as Head of Science in an outstanding sixth form college. Also, I have experience as an examiner for Biology A level.
This wealth of experience means that I am very qualified to help your son / daughter achieve their maximum potential in Biology A level.
I have taught all of the examination boards and have a thorough understanding of exam technique and mark schemes. I am fluent in all of the necessary biological terminology required for specific exam boards.

Tutoring Approach:
I adopt a friendly and personable style, but I am very much exam focussed ensuring plenty of use of past paper questions (which I set and mark as homework - this is unusual and included in the fee). I explain all difficult biological concepts thoroughly, coupled with the use of PowerPoint presentations. I ensure every aspect of the specification is covered thoroughly in order for students to meet mark scheme terminology. Students will have full exposure to all three exam papers and, therefore, will feel fully confident sitting their actual exams.

Personal Description:
I have always been someone that likes to help people, and this is the major motivator when it comes to teaching. The 1 to 1 dynamic of tutoring provides a great opportunity for real connection with the student, which then facilitates much better progress through mutual understanding and communication. I`ve found the more casual approach you get from teaching one student in their own home gives them so much more confidence and security than they have at school which makes it so much easier to understand their problems and work through things together.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching Maths and Science in several schools in Derbyshire and south Yorkshire, and have been tutoring privately for the last two years. I attained a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Nottingham and A*A*AA is Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Further Maths at A-level.

I have a broad range of experience tutoring in different settings and scenarios: online and in-person, KS3, GCSE and A-Level, Foundation and Higher Tiers, relaxed weekly or Bi-weekly sessions, intensive exam prep and even teaching in a home-school environment.

Tutoring Approach:
I opt for a more relaxed approach as I find student comfortability to be the most important factor for learning. Sessions are very interactive with the idea of helping the student understand where they are going wrong and what gaps they have. I am very analytical behind the scenes, building a bespoke portfolio that will inform the direction of future sessions.

I think students find the casual conversational learning to be a breath of fresh air. Many feel cramped and uncomfortable in a classroom so being able to just discuss things freely with no fear of judgement is a huge help. In my experience students always undersell themselves, so I make a point out of showing them how much they already know, which helps them feel more confident from the offset
