| Personal Description: While my fees may be high I'm an avid believer of the phrase you get what you pay for. I am an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a commitment to teaching. I have successfully completed a Mathematics PGCE in secondary teaching and worked at a prestigious outstanding school for a large period of time. My current focus is solely on private tuition and has been the case for several years. I have engaged in online tuition for many years and this has been a resounding success due to my investment into electronic resources and hardware which facilitates fantastic learning. I have an iPad, state of the art visualiser and laptop. My hourly rates may be higher than my competitors but you receive what you pay for. I have experience in marking examination scripts so I have experience from all angles. This adds a further dimension to the quality of tuition received which increases the likelihood of success. I enjoy skiing, travelling, indo-boarding and keeping fit. I am friendly and I get on well a wide range of people. I like challenging myself and I enjoy helping people. I have a full UK driving licence and I have my own transport. I have full DBS checks starting from July 2012 to present. My most recent DBS check is dated 9th October 2019. |
Teaching Experience: I have fully qualified teaching status in Secondary Mathematics. I have five years' classroom experience and have branched off into my own business of private tuition. I tutor for some high profile clients where confidentiality has been key. The new difficulty of the mathematics GCSE means that a highly competent tutor is essential. The composition of maths GCSE questions means that students are tested not only on their ability to understand a concept, apply it to an abstract situation and use a combination of concepts in order to solve a single question. I am the educator who can successfully help your child to develop their skills as well as exam based application. I understand the need to be flexible within my teaching and adaptable to the individual needs to every child. I incorporate this into my teaching practice on a daily basis. I keep up to date with the cutting edge developments within education and I have developed lessons so that they are robust and effective for every student. My skype lessons are highly successful due to the technology that I have invested in. This means that there is no hindrance to lessons despite being done online. The visualiser I have purchased means that skype lessons are just as effective as face to face ones. I have privately taught an extensive number of pupils over the last few years. This has ranged from several A level pupils, several GCSE pupils and a handful of primary school pupils. I have also taught university students in Economics. I have taught both male and female students from varying ages. My students notice a difference in their progress within a very short amount of time because I genuinely care about helping them to get the most out of their potential. Languages students experience a rapid increase in a matter of weeks in terms of both spoken and written work. All mathematics students feel more confident in understanding and applying concepts and developing their skills. All of my Economics' students have seen particularly quick progression in terms of analytical and evaluation skills. I am a hard working and conscientious tutor - I take my work very seriously and I am committed to helping students perform exceptionally well. I place a great deal of emphasis on organisation of resources and I use colour and imaginative anecdotes in order to make the material stick in the brain. Overall - I can help with routine homework, assignments, exam preparation, more focused revision, improving memory and making subjects fun and relatable! *NEW* I can also help with PGCE skills tests in both numeracy and literacy! IELTs Preparation Personal Statement Assistance |
Tutoring Approach: I plan things and I like to identify a student's weaknesses so that I can help them to kick the demons and enjoy a subject in a way they never have done before. I know that consolidating the foundation of any subject is essential and means that a student can develop at a phenomenal rate. I also know that it's important not to overload students with too much information so I make things manageable which means progress tends to noticeable. |

| Personal Description: As a child, I learned by being told, by beatings, shaming and a strict examination system. As you can imagine I didn't learn much that I could later apply to my academic life. As a result, I became an inveterate learner, always interested in learning the next thing. At one point, the drive to learn was because I didn't see myself as being good enough. Later on, that drive became an interest in discovering my own abilities as well as about helping others. I have now learned so much about how not to teach that I have gained good insight into how learning happens. I am keen to ensure all my learners learn how to learn and understand how to apply what they discover. |
Teaching Experience: My background is in teaching, training and facilitation. I have over 25 years experience of teaching in different forms having worked within primary, secondary and further education settings. I am an NVQ / TAQA assessor and trained and assessed Parenting Practitioners and other candidates up to Level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have specialist skills in Personal Effectiveness subjects such as Report Writing, Speed Reading, Presentation Skills. |
Tutoring Approach: Being a private tutor used to be the preserve of only those with the highest qualifications and the greatest experience. Now all that's changed. However good a tutor is, the learner needs to be astute in order know if the tutor is a good match for her / him. Importantly, making the right choice can be complex. Here are three tips to help you decide if I am or someone else is right for you. The following tips describe how I teach and how I will enable you to be an independent learner. 1. Look for a tutor who can teach you how to learn Here's a funny thing… learners study a subject, sometimes for months and years and can come away with no long-term memory of the underpinning principles of the subject. As disturbing, they have no ongoing understanding of the subject. They are unable to apply what they tried to learn. This is easily resolved by clearing up past issues with learning. In Applied Scholastics it is now well known that if as a learner, you are helped to do so, you can learn any subject. This is central to how I teach. 2. Look for tutors who understand the main barriers to learning and can help you overcome them There are three main barriers to study. They relate to confusion over an idea, missing out critical steps and having unclear ideas about the subject under study. Gaining a day to day facility with overcoming those barriers is key to effective and efficient study. I use these methods to help my own reading and study. I will introduce them to you so that you can use them too. 3. Look for tutors who can help you find the information you need so that you keep expanding your own understanding of the subject Sometimes, a learner during a course of study will find that s/he wants to give up. Have you ever experienced this? Whenever that happens it is because there is something - an idea, a symbol, a form of punctuation, the use of a word, or something else - that you did not understand. Without the proper factual information on this and without the correct knowledge of why and how this happens, the learner will struggle. Without knowing what remedies to apply, the learner will give up. When you study, you are investing time and energy. In this case, money too. If you want to discover more about how you learn, what your barriers to study are and how to understand more, you will benefit from being an independent learner. That will repay your investment. Those three critical points should help you decide if I could be right for you. They briefly describe the way in which I would work with you and enable you to be an independent learner. |

| Personal Description: I am an enthusiastic qualified teacher with extensive classroom and private tutoring experience. I am currently not working in school full time as I am undertaking my Masters in Education at Reading University as well as caring for live my little boy, I am willing to teach online, travel to your home or a nearby suitable study space. |
Teaching Experience: I love teaching and believe that all children can excel. I have been teaching for over 15 years with a large proportion of my experience in years 5 and 6. I have been a SATs marker for over 10 years now so definitely know how to get the best out of children in preparation for success not only in their SATs but also secondary school. I work regularly with children who want to participate in the 11+ entrance exams and have experience in most Berkshire schools' entrance requirements. |
Tutoring Approach: My pupils often describe me as 'firm but fair' with lessons that are fun. I believe children are most productive when they are enjoying themselves whilst being challenged. Any child can learn if they are taught in a way that is engaging to them and ensures that their strengths and weaknesses are identified. With this in mind, I aim to make learning relevant to them and break everything down into manageable chunks. I believe that children should be in charge of their own learning and will therefore always ensure that their views are taken into consideration when teaching. I love helping children to learn and relish the challenge of helping them to meet their potential. |
