I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. My whole career has been geared towards some form of teaching. For 23 years, I was a member of the English Department at Sacred Heart Catholic College (now Academy) in Crosby, Liverpool. In that time, I taught students from 11-18 and gained experience in whole class teaching and individual and small group tuition. I helped develop schemes of work and lesson plans, and was also a head of year for three years. For many years, I ran after school clubs including a role playing group and a school fiction magazine.

Since 2023, I have been working as a supply teacher at a range of schools in the area, including a year-long stint at Meols Cop High School in Southport from September 2024-July 2025.

I have had limited experience of private tutoring, but my approach is to assess tutees' strengths and weaknesses through fairly straightforward baselining and focused questioning. Once areas for improvement have been identified, more specific activities will be designed depending on the needs of the tutee. English is a more skills-based than knowledge-based subject. I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at Imperial College London. I enjoy tutoring because I love helping students understand concepts that initially seem difficult. From my experience, even the most challenging topics can be simplified using analogies, helping students develop intuition and a deeper understanding of the subject. Seeing a student gain confidence and genuinely enjoy learning is extremely rewarding, and I enjoy tailoring my explanations to suit each individual's style and pace.

Teaching Experience:
My tutoring experience includes tutoring students from Years 5-13 in maths both online and in-person. I have also tutored peers in leadups to GCSEs and A-Levels. My strong academic background makes me the ideal person to tutor you.

My teaching style focuses on breaking down complex ideas into clear, intuitive steps, using analogies and real-world examples to make concepts stick. I adapt each lesson to the student's pace and learning style, whether that means reinforcing fundamentals, tackling exam-style questions, or building confidence from the ground up.
