I am a fully qualified Portuguese teacher (U. do Porto). I have a PhD in Portuguese studies. I have a thorough understanding and interest in grammar and I will pass this on to my students while teaching. I have created many of my own class materials using 'realia' such as newspaper articles, theatre programmes, reproductions of paintings, popular music, film-based activities and art craft. During all these years of teaching I have become familiar with the handbooks available to students and I am able to comment on the advantages and drawbacks of each one. I prepare classes using a thematic approach (holidays, work, family etc.) and work suitable grammatical points with each unit (e.g. introducing continuous past in Portuguese when talking about childhood). In my teaching of advanced and expert levels I also acknowledge the oral and written differences between European and Brazilian Portuguese. I am a fully qualified Maths Teacher (QTS) registered with UK National College of Teaching and Leadership. I work in an outstandingly high achieving Grammar school near London.

So far I have tutored over 100 students on a 1-1 basis in the past 7 years alone. This is over 4000 hours of tutoring (40 weeks for each student a year X 100 students = 4000 hours)!

Tutoring Approach:
Teaching Pedagogy: The vast majority of One-2-One tutors simply 'turn-up-and-teach' without adequate preparation. Maths is mostly about 'understanding', and less about 'throw up facts'. A tutor gets ONE CHANCE to impart 'understanding' in a clear and coherent way. Not having prepared and risking an incomplete, confused or incoherent explanation instills confusion in the student, rather than confidence.

• Regular feedback and homework: Most tutors either set no homework at all or thoughtlessly set exercises from a textbook containing inappropriate questions. My homework is specifically written to complement the lesson, containing some questions designed for routine practice and some questions designed to challenge the student; encouraging them to 'think' and to develop their logical capacity.

• Exam Practice: I give students plenty of past paper practice - but only at the right time, once they have a deep understanding of all of the individual topics within the syllabus. Far too many tutors use exam papers to 'teach' from, which means they are setting papers when the student isn't ready: The upshot of that is the student's scores fluctuate wildly and their confidence is destroyed.
The lessons are invigorating, inspirational and cutting edge as I keep a very thorough hold on my subject.

I studied medieval languages, literature, and history at the University of Cambridge before completing an MA in Medieval Studies at the University of York. I then moved to La Rochelle (France) in 2016, where I taught English in two schools. After spending 4 months in New Zealand, I began teaching English at the Sorbonne University in Paris (2018-2020). I am now in the process of completing a PhD which focuses on medieval literature and languages (including Old French). I take a keen interest in language, especially French, and enjoy sharing this with my students.

From October 1st 2016 until April 30th 2017, I taught English to 11-18 year olds in two French high schools. I also privately taught English to a French businessman in preparation for his travels in Australia, and to a young student studying for his baccalaureate exams. Hi there! I'm Emily. I grew up in London, and I am a native English speaker with a British accent. I find languages fascinating, and have studied French, Spanish and Russian, so I understand the experience of a language learner. As well as language learning, my hobbies include swing dancing, reading, art and watching films!

Teaching Experience:
I am an experienced teacher with a native British accent. I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Education Studies and English Literature, before completing a PGCE in Primary Education. I am fully TEFL certified and DBS checked, and teach both adults and children.

I have taught in several London Primary Schools, and continue to teach Primary School children part-time.

Tutoring Approach:
I offer conversational English classes for intermediate-advanced students.

My lessons use art, music, literature and film to create stimulating conversations. I have a rigorous approach to grammar and pronunciation, but prefer not to use coursebooks. I will listen and respond to your needs in real time, identifying and working on your weaknesses with you, meaning that my lessons are fun and tailored to your interests! If you choose to study with me for the long term, I will create a personalised syllabus for you to ensure that you achieve your language goals.

I teach all my lessons over Zoom. When you start learning with me, I will share a Google Drive folder with you in which I will put all your lesson resources and extra support for self-study.

Personal Description:
I am a professional in the Wine Industry, having previously worked for the mass participation sport company that organised the Barcelona Marathon. I have a 2:1 Degree in Modern Languages with Business (Spanish & Portuguese) from the University of Nottingham, having learned Spanish from the age of 13. I spent a year living in various parts of Spain, improving my conversational and business Spanish, as well as annual trips to Andalucía visiting relatives.

Teaching Experience:
During my year abroad at university, I spent 1 month working as a Teacher's Assistant at a school near Sevilla and more recently I've tutored the children of family friends at 11+ Level, GCSE and A-Level. In my previous employment, I also held monthly Spanish classes with colleagues to improve general conversational language.

Tutoring Approach:
I take an adaptable approach to teaching, tailoring each class to the needs of the student. Whether across reading, writing, listening or oral, I focus on ensuring time is spent efficiently so that the outcomes contribute to upcoming exams/tests/challenges etc. This is achieved through a collaborative effort that allows my students to understand and then repeat.

I'm Ahsan
I'm a Medical Student at Anglia Ruskin University, I've worked hard to get to the stage I am.
During GCSEs my strongest subjects were Maths and Science. During A levels my strongest my subjects were Maths and Chemistry. I believe I've always found those subjects interesting and simple to understand because of my approach to learning the more complex topics. And this is something I'd like to share as I understand how confusing and difficult it can for students to wrap their head around a subject when there are many other subjects to study for. Through tutoring I'd like to teach students simple approaches to difficult topics !

Teaching Experience:
I have been a cricket coach for juniors ages 4-16 for 4 years.
Through medical school I've been part of societies which involves learning and teaching different complex topics. During all my stages of studying from GCSES and A levels to Medical School I have always studied in groups, learning from and teaching my friends.

Tutoring Approach:
Good tutoring doesn't require a specific approach, it depends on the learning pattern of the student, I've always studied in groups I understand some students may pick up certain topics through different explanations and examples to another student. My approach to tutoring would be whatever suits the students better, whether it's : explanations, examples, similar questions to the question they're struggling with. I aim to teach the student through various methods, in my opinion learning is important but consolidation through repetition is more important
