Often students don't understand a topic simply because the teacher hasn't put it into language the student understands. I do my best to convey ideas in clear and simple language to cut to the essence of the topic. Three weeks later I took a Chinese proficiency test and placed at mid-novice level (the test was aimed at people who had 120+ hours learning time, I had eight hours under my belt). I am 36 years old and graduated from Leeds University with a 2:1 degree in Spanish Langauge and Literature with an accredited distinction in speaking. Previously,I taught English for a year while working for the British Council in Murcia, Spain. This required me to source interesting material for classes, plan and then teach classes of up to 30 students at a time. As the level of english was low in some years I had to direct the entire class in Spanish and work out the best ways to encourage the children to engage in the English Language.

In addition to the language assistant role I also privately tutored 6 students whilst living in Spain, the ages ranged from 11 to an adult learner and each session was tailored to suit their needs.
