I have been working as a maths tutor since 2011 and online exclusively since 2015. During this period, I have successfully assisted students studying for their GCSE, IB and A-levels as well as their undergraduate modules. This has taken place both privately and while holding external tutoring roles in various London schools. Hello fellow mathematicians!

I'm Chris, a 23 year old maths PhD student at Brunel University. I was originally granted a School Studentship to fund my studies but then soon after starting my research I was upgraded to an ESPRC grant. I study maths because I enjoy it, and enthusiasm to teach it comes part of this package. For A-level and higher I specialize in pure maths, so algebra, calculus etc so if you happen to be struggling with areas such as these then I'm your guy. Any level lower than A-level I will also be happy to help with.

I do not have a current CRB check but I'm sure I could get one if it is needed - I haven't commited any crimes trust me.

Teaching Experience:
Whilst in 6th form and during my undergraduate years I often went back to my secondary school to help out in the maths department.

For the past academic year I have taught many seminars for foundation, 1st and 2nd year undergraduates. These have ranged from 2-100 students per seminar.

I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. She's from Mindanao in the Philippines and we met online! I'm a proud dad to two beautiful children, Isaac and Hannah. I'm much travelled, play guitar, write songs and enjoy carp fishing especially on a warm Spring or Summer day. I am also an author! I published my first book 'Moondust' in 2015 and have recently self published another two, available in the Blurb Bookstore.

I have taught at a Grammar School in the UK as well as private schools in Malaysia and the UK. My classroom teaching has been for students aged between 11 and 18 and includes GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. My students have always achieved well due to the fact that I inspire them to enjoy the subject and know how best to prepare them for their exams. This is because I have an in-depth knowledge of the curriculum as well as the common misconceptions students have for each topic.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that every student is capable of succeeding in Maths as long as they are taught in a way suited to them. I also believe that it is important in Maths to truly understand the content and how it all fits together. Making links between topics is vital as there is then less to remember and it becomes much easier to recall information in future. Maths is a subject which requires a lot of resilience and many students suffer from Maths anxiety because of the fear of getting it wrong. In the classroom, students can often struggle if they are not receiving the individual support they need and, as a tutor, I have a unique opportunity to give this.

As a tutor, my first task is to ensure that each student believes they can succeed. I pride myself on my ability to connect with my students, work out what they need in order to understand the content and create a safe environment where they are not afraid to make mistakes. I show them that mistakes are learning points in Maths and the path to success is to persevere through these and adapt your knowledge as you progress through each topic. As a teacher and a tutor, I am able to guide students through this process.

I have a flexible, adaptable and positive approach to tutoring. My aim is to for children to fulfil their potential. I teach in the style of the children's needs and their way of learning. I am flexible and adaptable. I use various teaching styles, such as the VAK (Visual, Auditory & Kinaesthetic) and identify which one would be the most suitable for the child. I also use various assessment techniques and provide feedback.
I begin a topic by addressing any gaps in children's knowledge and learning. The Learning Objective is clearly focussed upon in each session. I always provide stimulating and engaging activities suited to the child's needs. I introduce each topic and model examples, addressing any misconceptions from the child. Children then have opportunity to complete the tasks and then assess their own learning at the end of each session.
Overall, I am to provide a personalised tuition programme for each child adhering to the requirements of the national curriculum. I aim to deepen understanding by linking activities to the other areas of the curriculum and in wider society.

I have worked as a teacher in the UK for 22 years with a range of age groups. Before teaching I was a Registered General Nurse and worked in hospitals both in Birmingham and Worcester.

Teaching Experience:
I have 22yrs experience in English primary schools teaching from Reception to Year Four. I have worked with children with a variety of special needs and have acted as Senco for 3 years.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to make my lessons fun and interesting. I am able to use a child's interests to engage them in their learning and provided regular encouragement and feedback to motivate each child to progress and achieve their potential.

I have taught my sister and other kids that are local to me. I taught mainly mathematics and some science topics.
