I started working as a tutor in London and Surrey in 2013/2014, mainly for students who had been excluded from school. In 2015 I relocated and began tutoring private clients in East Anglia. My tutoring approach can be summed up in three words: Engage, Empower, Elevate. I firmly believe that engagement is the cornerstone of effective learning. I strive to make even the most abstract concepts relatable by drawing parallels to everyday experiences. This fosters curiosity and a desire to explore further. Empowerment comes from creating a safe space for students to voice their questions and ideas without hesitation. Together, we tackle challenges, building not only subject mastery but also self-assurance. Lastly, elevation entails guiding students to see beyond the immediate coursework, encouraging them to think critically and relate their learning to broader contexts. Through a balance of guidance and autonomy, I aim to equip my students with skills that extend well beyond exams-skills that will serve them throughout their academic and personal journeys.

Personal Description:
University Lecturer in Computer Science. Married with one child, and a dog (a schnoodle). I have seen my own son recently progress through schooling to university, learning Computer Science at different ages. In my own time I volunteer at a local rowing club.

Teaching Experience:
I have 15 years of experience teaching Computer Science at degree level, and for younger learners. I also run a national programming contest (called UKIEPC) to encourage young people to learn programming.

Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring can range from fun-focused exercises for young people, to curriculum-focused tutoring in preparation for exams. I encourage learners to engage with free programming challenge websites and professional platforms like github, that help to create a private online profile that can be made public and used in a CV for university and job applications.

27, Graduated with 1st Class Hons. in a Computer Science Integrated Masters' Degree (Artificial Intelligence) from University of Manchester.
Have done previous online tutoring for Mathematics, Computer Science and Music (Piano and Clarinet) and have worked as a software engineer for Accenture, since graduating university in 2021.

Teaching Experience:
Currently teaching Computer Science and Mathematics at Oxford International College Brighton, covering the Cambridge International curriculum for Years 10-13 (iGCSE and AS/A Level).

Last year, 60% of my Year 11 students achieved Grades 7-9 (A to A* equivalent) for their IGCSE Computer Science exams.
This year, all my Year 11 students are predicted to have a Grade 9 (A* star equivalent) and more than 50% of my Year 13s an A* before sitting their final exams.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach involves three key strategies:

- Working through and verbally explaining past paper questions in a certain topic: this strategy allows the tutee to consolidate their understanding of any complex topic very effectively, as it clearly shows if there is a discrepancy between the quality of their written work and verbal explanations

- Getting to know the tutee's personal interests and hobbies, as this will allow me (as a tutor) to draw crucial connections that help them see where a concept is applied in their daily life (e.g. projectile motion and parabolas in the motions of flying balls in sports, data structures and algorithms being used in various online games of today...)

- Frequent questioning to make sure the sessions involve maximum engagement and active learning from the tutee's side: the questions may involve checking understanding, complex reasoning, fact verification and more
