I live in Olney , I am 63, female, and can supply references on request, as I have provided private tuition for many A level and University students. I was Head of Psychology at a local college for 12 years , and I have examining experience. I now also lecture in BSc and MSc Psychology while undertaking my PhD which is looking at interventions to reduce stress in students.

Teaching Experience:
I worked as a Psychology Lecturer at Northampton College. I taught AS and A2 Psychology , I also taught Access Psychology. All previous tuttees I have supported have attained A-B grades if they start with me early enough in the year. I now lecture at my local university in Psychology.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to tailor the method to the learner, I would aim to work through exam answers, but also to introduce all types of methods to help the learner take on the information. I very much focus on exam technique and how to maximie getting all of the available marks in the exams.

I am a fun-loving, chatty and bubbly person and committed to the success and achievement of my students. I try to incorporate humour into my lessons as much as possible as students are more likely to remember what they have learnt that way. I am out-going and always look forward to meeting new people. I am a native english speaker and CELTA qualified. I teach all areas of EFL but definitely prefer to teach conversational and business english.

Teaching Experience:
I qualified in September 2013 and have been teaching ever since then. I have got 7 hours class teaching experience but the rest and the majority of my experience lies with teaching adults in a 1:1 setting.

Tutoring Approach:
I tend to take a fairly laid back approach to teaching (depending on the student's requirements). I take a very pro-active approach and try and make the lessons as fun as possible, thus the student gains more from them and is more likely to remember what they have learnt. I encourage students to use what they have learnt outside of lessons, thus increasing their practice time and therefore improving their english immensely. I can set homework if I feel it is necessary but the responsibility to complete that work lies within the student. I motivate my students to go above and beyond the standard requirements. I am a successful local tutor and teacher with an MA in Education from Oxford Brookes University (2016), a Postgraduate Diploma in English and Language in Education from the University of Reading (2012). I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary - English) from Oxford Brookes University (2007) and a BA Hons in English Literature (2006) as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Children's Literature (2024). With A Level clients, I often re-read the key exam texts and exam specifications in order to deliver a successful tutorial. The rapport with the parent is as just as important as the tutee. In order to make a success of the tuition, it's paramount to have a good professional relationship with both. I use feedback from the tutee's parent (via a school report) and informal feedback from the tutee to create an Individual Tuition Plan which includes setting three clear targets. Depending on the key stage and ability of the tutee, this can range anything from parenthetic comma use to translating Chaucerian poetry!
