Personal Description:

I am Brazilian and have been living in the UK for around 27 years. I have a passion for languages and speak Portuguese, English, Italian, and French.

Although I am originally from Brazil, many of my students are interested in travelling to or living in Portugal, so I am happy to teach both Brazilian and European Portuguese, adapting my lessons to suit each student's needs and goals.

I am also a qualified DPSI (Law) Interpreter and currently run an English course for international students. My extensive experience in languages, teaching, and interpreting allows me to offer students not only strong language skills, but also a deeper understanding of culture and real-life communication.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Portuguese in the UK for around 18 years, working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and levels.

Throughout my teaching career, I have taught Portuguese at various Adult Education Centres, gaining extensive experience in both classroom-based and more personalised learning environments. I currently teach private groups and one-to-one students, tailoring my lessons to meet their individual needs, interests and learning objectives.

I also have experience teaching Portuguese in a corporate environment in the UK, helping professionals develop their language skills for both business and everyday communication.

My extensive teaching experience has given me a flexible and student-centred approach, allowing me to adapt my teaching methods to different learners and create engaging, practical and effective lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach focuses strongly on developing students' confidence and ability to speak Portuguese from the very first lesson. I use a practical, interactive approach with plenty of speaking exercises, encouraging students to start communicating in Portuguese straight away - and they do!

I use a variety of resources, including pictures, online materials, a whiteboard and carefully structured repetition, to help students build their vocabulary, improve their pronunciation and develop their understanding naturally.

After many years of using this approach, I have seen excellent results. Many of my students have gone on to become confident and fluent Portuguese speakers, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching.
