I am a graduate from the University of Sunderland - BSc hons Information Technology and Education - 2:1. I have been teaching for twenty successful years. I'm Head of Mathematics teaching GCSE Mathematics and GCSE ICT at a school in Northumberland. I have excellent experience teaching GCSE Maths, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Access. Every new batch of tuition starts with getting to know more about the students. It is at the same time important to give the students enough space to familiarise themselves with me. The following steps outline the process of each tuition session:

I put an emphasis on a deep understanding of each concept, theory, method, and observation, dissolving misconceptions, as well as acquiring and mastering technical skills. For online lessons (single or group), I use an interactive platform where I as well as the student can write on the lesson slides, so we can answer questions, write derivations and make clarifications in writing. The platform also allows for online interactive simulations that bring theory to life. This platform is also used for in-person sessions for faster responses and a more stimulating and interactive lesson. For group tutorials at home, I utilise a physical whiteboard in my living room on which both I and the students can write, in addition to slides presented on a screen. In all cases, the whole lesson is available for revision as a pdf file after each session.

I have taught Mathematics in schools across South Wales and Bristol, bringing over 15 years of classroom experience, including more than 8 years as Head of Mathematics. Throughout my career, I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities, helping them develop strong mathematical foundations, build confidence and achieve their individual academic goals.

I currently teach secondary Mathematics in South Wales, covering all levels up to and including A Level Mathematics. I have extensive experience delivering the full A Level Mathematics specification and preparing students not only for the demands of the course content but also for the rigour of the examinations.

My approach to tutoring is centred on building confidence and developing genuine mathematical understanding. Every pupil is different, so I tailor my teaching to their individual needs, learning style and where they are on their mathematical journey.

I focus on ensuring that students develop a clear, practical and comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts. We begin by strengthening procedural knowledge and securing the fundamental skills and techniques that underpin success in Mathematics.

Once these foundations are secure, we progress to reasoning, problem-solving and exam-style questions, allowing students to apply their knowledge in increasingly complex and unfamiliar situations. This helps students move beyond simply knowing how to complete a calculation and towards understanding when and why to use particular mathematical methods.

This structured progression helps to deepen understanding while, most importantly, building confidence. My aim is for pupils to leave each session feeling more prepared, more capable and increasingly confident in their ability to tackle Mathematics independently and succeed in their examinations.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored twice before, once in nat 5 maths bringing their prelim score of C to an A, and also in higher maths taking them from a fail in the prelim to a B.
I also help do paired reading with the younger students in my school as well as being the Maths Ambassador where I'm helping hold study supports for higher and national 5s as well as aiding students in classes.

Tutoring Approach:
Although I have strategies and methods to many different question types in either maths or chemistry, everybody has a specific way they like learning so I aim to be adaptable and inquisivitive to see how I can tailor the lessons for whoever I'm helping so they can learn best. There's no benefits in being overbearing or strict or expecting the world from someone, rather I prefer to be encouraging, patient and understanding to how hard some sub-sections are of each subject and working at a comfortable pace for the tutee. I have worked with over 20 tutees and I am well equipped to guide students through the exam season with both new study and revision, alongside important exam technique and strategy.

Tutoring Approach:
I deliver online lessons using an interactive whiteboard, tailored specifically to how each student engages with their maths. My goal is simple: to help students build confidence, master content, and achieve to the best of their ability. At the end of each lesson, I guide students on targeted practice material. For GCSE students, this includes access to my updated 5-a-week practice program.
