Personal Description:
I trained as an actor at Arts Educational schools and have forty years experience working as an actor, director, writer and trainer. For ten years I worked as an audio director, directing many of the UK's leading actors in recordings of 150 audio books, poetry collections and drama. As a writer I have seen my plays produced in repertory theatre and by small touring companies and have also written for TV. I have been coaching people in presentation skills, acting and elocution since 2003. I teach young adults aged 18 and over and adults of any age.

Teaching Experience:
I began my career as an actor-teacher, working for small theatre companies touring schools, often leading drama workshops on educational themes. I was also Assistant Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre at the London branch of Boston University, teaching American young adults. I have been teaching private students since 2003, including business people wishing to improve their communication and presentation skills, poets who wish to perform their work live, and corporate trainers seeking voice coaching.

Tutoring Approach:
I teach at my home (or online), providing a safe, relaxed and supportive environment in which students can learn practical skills, build their confidence and discover their true ability. Lessons are tailored to meet the specific learning needs of the student, whether they are learning for fun or professional development. I work through voice and elocution techniques and performance skills for presenting. I do not teach academic studies or theory.

Emme offers private flute and music theory tuition.

Emme began her musical studies at the age of nine, receiving music scholarships at both her Prep school and the prestigious Oxford High School for Girls up until she left. She made her Concerto debut at the age of seventeen, playing Mouquet's La Flute de Pan Concerto, and successfully gained both the DipABRSM and LRSM in performance before moving to Manchester in 2005 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. At the RNCM Emmeline studied with Richard Davis, Linda Verrier, Michael Cox, and Laura Jellicoe culminating in a final recital in 2009 that included works by Messiaen, Liebermann and George Crumb. Since graduating in 2009 she has continued to learn, play and teach the flute as well as the recorder and music theory.

As an orchestral flute player, Emme has performed in orchestras conducted by Hansjorg Schellenbeger, Sir Mark Elder, Gianndrea Noseda and Jacques Van Steen, just to name a few. She has performed across England as well as travelling to Italy to work under Noseda in his Stresa Festival and to Spain as part of the Word Orchestra. During 2008 and 2009, Emme successfully competed to become the only chosen flute player to take part in The BBC Philharmonics Professional Experience Scheme, and since then she regularly performs and records with the Orchestra in and around Manchester. She has also played with the Bampton Classical Opera, the London-Irish Symphony Orchestra, the Oxford Concerto Orchestra, and Stockport Symphony Orchestra and has featured as principal flautist on a number of recordings, notably for the soundtrack to the film Tortoise in Love, and on recordings for Polyphonic Records. She is currently performing in the touring hit musical Phantom of the Opera, as well as taking part in sessions for shows and TV in the UK.

Outside of orchestral playing Emme also performs chamber music and solo works. She is one of the founding members of Northern Quarter Ensemble, a flexible chamber group providing bespoke musicians for special events; most recently performing for royality at the Paris Opera Garnier. She often gives solo recitals and performs at weddings in Manchester, Oxford and Cheltenham. Her last concerto performance was just last year where she performed the Ibert Concerto with Oxford Studio Orchestra.

Outside of playing Emme enjoys teaching. During her time in Manchester she has taught privately, as well as for Lancashire, the Wirral and Bolton Music Services. She is also involved the BBC Philharmonic's outreach schemes, most recently being appointed the wind coach for the Family Orchestra projects in the North-West of England.

She has now moved to Oxfordshire and London and teaches at Preparatory Schools in both areas.

Teaching Experience:
Emme has over 10 years teaching experience, teaching both privately and for Lancashire and Bolton Music Services. She currently teaches at Rendcomb College, St Hughs, Ferndale Prep and Bruern Abbey. Over this time she has acquired a 100% pass rate for pupils taking exams.

Unlike most tutors, I am a qualified teacher and have been a successful Head of Physics, Head of science and currently Lead practitioner in charge of STEM outreach. I am actively involved in training other to improve their Science teaching.

I am an experienced Head of Physics and fully qualified secondary school teacher in Science. I have vast experience of tutoring from year 7 up to A-level and unlike other tutors I am also teaching in the classroom. This allows me to be up-to-date with curriculum changes, coursework requirements and thorough knowledge of areas which students struggle with in all aspects of Science. I am also a sixth form school tutor which means that I understand the requirements for entry into sixth form and the UCAS process.

I am currently a Lead practitioner of Science/STEM, after having been a Head of Physics at a secondary school with 16+ years experience. I am responsible for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at my school. Both of my parents were teachers and tutors (Head of Department in Science/Physicist and SENCO) whilst I was growing up. Therefore teaching and education have always been an important part of my life.
I am a teacher and have taught 11-19 year old students in three comprehensive mixed schools in various boroughs in London including Hillingdon, Camden and Haringey. I currently teach in Dorset.

I have a vast understanding of all GCSE and A-level specifications and have been an examiner for OCR and AQA.

Each child is different, so I like to design a plan after first finding out where the problems arise. Every child is different and I find that you cannot treat every child in the same way. I follow the syllabuses and specification, as these are my main tools as well as past exam papers........practice means progress!

I know speaking a language fluently is so important to enjoy new experiences. I have a Degree in Linguistics and have been trained in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL/TESOL). I have a variety of experiences in teaching, training and tutoring. Although I am originally from Australia I am now based in London. I have spent time learning Russian, Spanish and German, so I know how useful it is to have someone helping continuing to build vocabulary and correct language use. I am a fun-loving, chatty and bubbly person and committed to the success and achievement of my students. I try to incorporate humour into my lessons as much as possible as students are more likely to remember what they have learnt that way. I am out-going and always look forward to meeting new people. I qualified in September 2013 and have been teaching ever since then. I have got 7 hours class teaching experience but the rest and the majority of my experience lies with teaching adults in a 1:1 setting.

I tend to take a fairly laid back approach to teaching (depending on the student's requirements). I take a very pro-active approach and try and make the lessons as fun as possible, thus the student gains more from them and is more likely to remember what they have learnt. I encourage students to use what they have learnt outside of lessons, thus increasing their practice time and therefore improving their english immensely. A semi-retired Environmental Scientist, Zoologist and Freshwater Biologist, I am also fluent in Spanish and German, having spent many years living in Latin American countries, working for German and British multinational companies.

I taught GCSE Science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry) and Maths and A-Level & IB Biology and Environmental Science in both the state and private sectors for many years. I have a PhD in chemistry and have published a book on Study Smarter: a lecture's inside guide to boost your grades.

With over 15 years as an academic, I have published extensively in peer-reviewed academic publications. My passion and outstanding commitment to teaching were recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2016 with a Higher Education Teaching Award. In 2017, I was awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship in the UK.

Languages and psychology are my passions. I enjoy learning languages (as well as the languages listed below, I have started learning some Arabic, Norwegian, Japanese, Spanish and Italian) and this has enabled me to try many different methods of learning a foreign language, which I can pass on to students to see which works best for them. In addition, I am currently researching the integration of psychology into language learning to make the learning process easier for students. I have lived abroad and am knowledgeable about different cultures. I have a good understanding of the common issues experienced by speakers of certain languages when learning English, including learning a new alphabet. My CELTA level 5 qualification in teaching English as a foreign language included teaching students of different ages and abilities from around the world via zoom. My students were very engaged in their lessons and weren't afraid to have a go even if it meant making a mistake, as I am able to ensure a relaxed and safe atmosphere in the classroom (or virtual classroom). I have taught all aspects of learning a language: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
