Personal Description:

I'm a Biomedical Science student at the University of Essex with a strong interest in biology and healthcare. I enjoy understanding how scientific concepts connect to real-life situations, particularly disease and the human body.

I'm also someone who understands what it feels like to lack confidence in a subject. I've benefited from tutoring and support myself, so I know that sometimes a student doesn't need to be told to "try harder" - they need someone to explain the idea in a way that makes sense to them and helps them realise they are capable.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is centred around understanding, reasoning and confidence rather than simply memorising information.

I would first find out what the student already understands and where they are struggling. I'd then break the topic into smaller, manageable ideas, explain the key concepts and terminology clearly, and connect them to examples or real-life contexts where appropriate.

Once the student understands the concept, I like to use practice questions to develop their ability to apply it. I would initially work through questions without putting pressure on time, focusing on why an answer is correct and how to recognise what the question is asking. As their confidence improves, I would gradually introduce timed questions and past papers.

I also like using diagrams, quizzes, recall and teach-back activities because they allow me to check whether the student genuinely understands something rather than simply recognising the answer.

Most importantly, I want students to become more independent. My goal isn't for them to rely on me for every question; it's for them to eventually look at a difficult question and think, "I know how to work this out."
