I'm an enthusiastic, keen and good-humoured tutor, who teaches with commitment, dedication, passion and style!

I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students now for more than 20 years - and I achieve great results.

I currently tutor students in English Language, English Literature and Maths - in the evenings and occasionally at weekends.

I am familiar with all of the English prose and play texts, as well as Poetry Anthologies and tutor students for both GCSE and IGCSE English Language and Literature.

I have a passion for poetry, I love Shakespeare, and, in my spare time, publish short stories. Creative Writing is my first love.

I also tutor students in GCSE Maths - and am familiar with all of the syllabi (Edexcel; AQA; IGCSE, OCR).

I am currently coaching a number of students who are working towards their Entrance exams in Coventry and Warwickshire - for Warwick, King's High, the merged Bablake & King Henry Schools and Solihull School.

A native Scot, I attained my English degree (BA Honours) from Stirling University in central Scotland.

In addition to my English degree, I have a second degree in Education (1st class Honours) from Stirling University, which allows me to teach GCSE Mathematics, Sociology, Psychology and Politics.

My hobbies include swimming (I swim a mile almost every day!), writing short stories and poems and motorbiking.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching GCSE and A level English, Drama and Creative Writing for 20 years.

I was one of the 'pilot tutors' on Warwickshire County Council's Tutoring Programme for Children in Care, tutoring teenagers across Warwickshire in literacy.

I write all of my own lessons.

Tutoring Approach:
My style is engaging and enthusiastic. I have a passion for creative writing.

I tutor in the evenings and selected weekends, and set weekly written tasks to monitor students' progress.

A normal GCSE lesson lasts one hour, but I can offer 90-minute or two-hour sessions for AS/A level students.

I also specialise in creative writing workshops, and am a published author, contributing to a number of paid-for UK magazines.

I also tutor online via MICROSOFT TEAMS.

I have had excellent recent successes. In the 2025 summer exams, four of my GCSE students scored A** (level 9) grades in Language and three scored level 9's in Literature.

I am a professionally trained actor. I have written for numerous publications, with stories and poems published regularly. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I have an MA in Acting and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies. I have professional training in elocution, pronunciation as well as accent and dialect work.

I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre.

I have been working as a private Tutor since 2007, and am a member of a number of private tutoring companies. Tutoring Approach:
I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.

Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.

I am a current A-level Chemistry and Biology examiner and author of A level Biology exam papers as well as textbooks and workbooks. I have worked in bioscience research and more recently in life science marketing and academic conference management in chemistry and biochemistry. I am a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and committee member of the Protein & Peptide Science Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

I now offer tuition exclusively online, using the Zoom platform.

Teaching Experience:
I have many years' experience in one-to-one teaching, starting with giving undergraduate tutorials at the University of Oxford. I have been offering private tuition in A-level Chemistry and Biology for over 10 years.

I am able to tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of the student and to make best use of online and other electronic resources to help students to an understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:
I start by identifying the particular needs of the student: do they have problems with understanding some or all of the subject; are there any areas of weakness that need to be strengthened; are there issues with exam technique that need to be addressed?

Even well taught students who have a good grasp of the subject can fail to achieve their full potential through poor exam technique. My earlier experience as a Chief Examiner, responsible for setting and marking A level exams, means that I have a detailed knowledge of the exam system and how students need to approach exam papers. My current examining experience has given me an insight into how to help students avoid unnecessary loss of marks by developing clear and rigorous approaches to their answers and to develop strategies to approach individual questions so as to maximise their performance.

Hello! My name is Luke and I am an assistant headteacher as well as head of English at a secondary school in Croydon. I have previously been the head of oracy & debating, and head of underachieving groups at other schools in a career spanning 9 years. Having graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First in History in the summer of 2017, I'm enthusiastic about education and helping others to progress far. After Cambridge, I graduated from the UCL Institute of Education with 'Outstanding' (i.e. the highest classification available for my Teach First PGDE) and was also awarded 'outstanding' in my NQT year.

I've been an English teacher for nine years across secondary schools in Hackney, Lewisham and Croydon. I began teaching through the Teach First Programme, and am a young, enthusiastic teacher primarily of English. Prior to teaching, I tutored English for over a year and was heavily involved in access schemes at Cambridge University. This was to support disadvantaged pupils develop their writing through one-to-one tuition whilst boosting their aspirations.

Tutoring Approach:
I prefer to teach in a relaxed and calm environment, with an emphasis on discussion and creating an interest in the subject rather than copying out textbooks. I believe that having an interest and a general understanding of a subject, especially humanities, is essential to doing well - likewise, practising is imperative in order to master a subject. Therefore, I aim to supply worksheets and past papers to help explain and practise difficult ideas or topics. Moreover, I can also suggest useful textbooks and sources to use for further revision.

I have a huge enthusiasm for History, English, and languages (particularly Spanish), and thoroughly enjoy studying - and teaching - all of these.

Though my favourite subject personally is History, I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring all of these. An approachable and empathetic manager in my former profession as an IT consultant, I am now a qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher who is able to encourage and motivate people to achieve their goals. I am highly organised and enjoy being creative. I make the most of my advanced IT skills to produce materials to meet the learning needs of my students. I have a lifelong enthusiasm for language, culture and meeting new people from all walks of life, to learn and share experiences.

Teaching Experience:
I achieved my Trinity CertTESOL in January 2015. The certification process included teaching both group and individual lessons for a range of abilities from pre-intermediate to advanced. I was thoroughly stimulated by this course and enjoyed it immensely. I am now capable of going into a classroom and producing a well-thought out, appropriate and stimulating lesson that will help students of English to achieve their linguistic aims. In my former career as an IT consultant I coached, trained and mentored junior staff.

Since certification I have been fortunate to be employed by Language Schools in Winchester and Bath and have taught teenagers in multi- and mono-lingual groups. I have also taught English for Special Purposes with individual adults including Legal English and Business English.

Hello! Originally I come from Doncaster in South Yorkshire, but I've lived in Kent for 16+ years now.
I live in Faversham now and have done so for a few years.

Teaching Experience:
I've been an English teacher for over 26 years. During this time I have taught AQA, WJEC and now EDUQAS qualifications at both GCSE and A level.
I have taught A level English Literature and A level English Language. My passion is English Language-I love to teach all aspects of this subject from Child Language Acquisition, to Diversity in Language to Language Change.
In my career to date, I have been Head of Department and then Head of Faculty and Senior Teacher but for health reasons now I am part time and Second in English at my current school. The school I currently teach in is a non-selective secondary faith school where I have worked for over 15 years now.
