About Cheng:
I am seventeen years old, holding a deferred place at Cambridge university for Natural Sciences (Physics). I have just graduated from Lenzie Academy, and I want to spend a year exploring the world. This includes teaching - to be able to pass knowledge on to others, and see that sparkle in their eyes, I look forward to it greatly.

Teaching Experience:

Although I certainly have no official teaching qualifications, I have always enjoyed, and often succeeded, in teaching others. My classmates say they treat my as more of an authority than my teachers - but I do not wish to come across like that. In all my subjects across Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, I find the content to be not so consicely and clearly taught. And so I made my own notes - which can be as short as 10 pages for an entire subject - that I find to be all that one needs to ace at the exams, and indeed properly digest the syllabus. Indeed, my friends agreed that what seemed so daunting was deep down so simple and sometimes elegant - that they think my explanation was not even that important! I smile at that, of course, happy that they comprehend and not memorise. I have also helped my mother to go back into education, by showing her that A level/Higher mathematics is not as complex as she thought.

Tutoring Approach:

It is simple - I focus on understanding, and skills of analysis. At Advanced higher level at least, the easiest way to achieve an A is not even exam orientated teaching, in my opinion - because there are really not so many fundamental concepts to master (except in pure mathematics). I ask them to forget the "tricks" that they have been taught, and give them, in full honesty and clarity, the firm foundations from the beginning. These are both the deep rooted concepts, as well as methods of analysis. Further on in the teaching then, I would find that they can pick up things so quickly, so self-initiated and renewed with confidence - they do not even need my help a lot of the times!

About Gabriela:
My name is Gabriela Heinz. I am Argentinean, and I have been living in London for the past two and a half years. I love teaching and interacting with my students, most of the time, I learn a lot as well!

I teach my lessons entirely in Spanish. I believe that communicating not only has to do with understanding the individual words, but grasping a more global idea of what the other person is trying to say. About Baruch:
I am 28 and have recently moved to the Brighton area. I have worked with special needs children for just over 3 years. I have specialised in behavioural and language therapy but I am also looking to tutor in several areas as my experience and qualifications are sufficient. I completed 11 GCSEs, 1 NVD in Art, 4 Alevels and went on to do Child Sociology with Fine Art at university where I scored a second honors.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience with special needs, specialising in behaviour and language therapy. Part of my work has meant i have spent half my time working in a main stream school in London. This was one of the best primary schools in the Richmond Borough so I am fortunate to have learnt alot from them.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching should be fun and interesting to maximise retention. It is important that it is conveyed that there is no substitue for hard work and perseverence in achieving your goals and most importantly if you are enjoying what you are doing, irrespective of subject, then it ceases to be work.

About Abbie:
Current university student, studying Information Systems Analysis (Computer Science/IT) in Bristol. I was brought up in the South of Spain, studying at an International College, following the UK curriculum.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have no professional experience in this field, during my AS and A-level years I spent my "free periods" tutoring younger children within the school. This included helping young children learn to read, acting as a teacher's help in classes, and taking some GCSE IT classes for students needing extra help. I have also taken on the responsibility of "Science is Fun" days held annually at the school.

Tutoring Approach:

I've always found that you learn best from the teacher's you can actually connect with. Each student will have their own way of learning to their best ability, it's the tutor's position to discover which way is best for the student.

About Gareth:
I am a young (25) and enthusiastic fully qualified Teacher of Physics, located in the Gilesgate area of Durham. I have a flare and passion for science and am fully CRB (security) cleared for my current full-time teaching post.

Coming from Ireland originally, but having spent the last 7 years studying and working in the North East of England, I have settled into the Durham area relatively recently.

Teaching Experience:

Having achieved a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Northumbria University, I undertook a Postgraduate Certificarte of Education (PGCE) course at the University of Newcasle upon Tyne. Since September 2006 I have been teaching combined Science to Key Stage 3 and Physics to GCSE and A-Level at a high performing specialist secondary school in Darlington, County Durham.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel an open approach to teaching and tutoring alike is most likely to make the subject accessable to students. My personal technique involves covering the scientific basics before moving on to further develop knowledge and understanding. In this way, students are eased gently into a routine of learning which will hopefully guide them to success in their upcoming assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my experience in teaching I have enhanced my communication skills, planning and organisational skills. I am able to produce lesson plans that are both stimulating and creative, allowing the lessons to be enjoyable, work-orientated and successfully managed. I enjoy delivering lessons that are based on active leaning and group work, as I believe that many students learn best through 'doing', rather than just seeing and listening and also through collaborative work alongside their own peers. Educating individual pupils requires understanding and in turn planning for their personal development socially, morally, spiritually and culturally. I believe in order to achieve this successfully, requires respect and understanding of a pupil's background and integrating this with their experiences within the classroom. Having a class with a diverse ethnic mix provides a rich source of learning opportunities for the group as a whole. I thrive on the opportunities of working with a wide range of cultures, ethnicities and abilities.

I am an artist, writer and musician in Liverpool. My art practice involves drawing, painting, printing, collage, photography, video & performance. I have exhibited my work in exhibitions and had my poetry published. I spend time creating art works and providing art education.

**I am on maternity leave and will be working again from January 2009, please get in touch then, many thanks**

Teaching Experience:

Since leaving Liverpool Art School (Liverpool John Moores University) in 2004 I have worked as an artist running art and music workshops, artist residencies, project work, craft sessions and provided training & consultancy. I run an art room at a local youth centre and enjoy working with a large number of children from different backgrounds with different abilities and needs. Most recently I have worked with an infant school, high school, youth centre and adventure playground facilitating art projects and workshops.

I provide personally tailored, interesting and informative art lessons for a range of needs:
fun art sessions;
specific lessons - still life, colour theory, contemporary art, sculpture, for example;

About Parveen:
I did English Literature, Mathematics and Economics at A-Levels which I completed in 2001. I went straight onto University where I obtained a (BA Hons) in Accounting and Finance in 2004 from Kingston Univeristy. After the completion of my degree I started ACCA (Professional Accounting Exams) which I finished last summer in 2007.

I was not a natural at studying but with hard work and determination I have proven that your dreams are achievable. I currently work for a bank in the City and I would find it most enjoyable to put something back into the community. I would like to teach the next generation and make learning fun and inspiring.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I used to tutor young children through the Kumon scheme, a Japenese style of Arithmetic Mathematics. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and discovered that the best satisfaction one gains is watching a pupil develop and improve.

During my 2-year period with the Kumon scheme whilst I was studying for my GCSE's, I was given a group of pupils to teach. Classes used to be held each Saturday and involved me working through mathematical problems on a personal and group basis. During weekly classes, I would teach new skills, set homework for the following week and mark the previous week's homework by highlighting and explaining any mistakes which were made.

I found it be very challenging at such a early age, taking on a class of pupils and managing individual time with each pupil in the group. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and now after completing all my studies I have more time to invest in teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I honestly believe that it will always help to give pupils encouragement, inspiration and praise. Every teacher needs to be supportive, dedicated and focused.

I like to make teaching enjoyable, fun and take time to prepare for my classes so that I can make examples that pupils can relate to.

I am very passionate about teaching. I want to feel challenged again and do something worthwhile with my spare time. In my opinion, teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs.

About Luke:
I currently graduate from the university of Sussex with a degree in computer systems engineering. My result was 2.1 with honours. In my spare time I like to play different sports and enjoy socialising with friends. I use to tutor students in maths GCSE which I really enjoyed and wanted to continue.

Teaching Experience:

I previously taught maths GCSE to two students which I really enjoyed and was even more pleased to provide the service. I felt I had changed their lives, with the good results these pupils gained it had opened the door to a great amount of opportunities

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is a friendly. I like to teach the subject at the start of the lesson and then focus on solving problems together, so students can have a full understanding of the subject. A success is when I test a student and they can answer questions without referring to any text books.
