Personal Description:
I am a mature lady (60yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University. My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.
After working as an Engineer I changed career in my late 20s and moved into the world of Therapy and Healing. I trained in hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy as well as Human Design. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches and Artistic therapies to educating young people. I was also a member of the Steiner Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford.
From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.
In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. I would be able to help refer any child who needed more specialised care. Related to this I have also been studying Human Design which is an invaluable tool for understanding how unique we all are.
I have a non-verbal family member who I am very close to and have devoted much of the last decade to working with her and bringing out her latent ability to communicate in novel ways.
I am friendly, empathic and good with younger people. I listen and watch and adapt to each situation I meet. I endeavour to help bring out the best in people on all levels. I am offering a broad ranging expertise. I would say the help I really bring is an encouragement for the person to express who they uniquely are and to feel empowered to meet life in new ways.
I can travel to people's homes but I am allergic to cats and dogs so it may work better to hire 3rd party premises.
Teaching Experience:
I have successfully tutored Maths and Physics to High School students whilst living abroad in Canada and in the UK.
I work with a variety of ages and people from all walks of life and my skills are oriented to sensitive listening and increasing a person's confidence in themselves.
I CAN tutor Maths and Physics and Electronics but its not my forte these days to focus on this as I have not kept up with the GCSE requirements......
Tutoring Approach:
I work outside of my home in non-pet and non-smoker environments only at this time.
I ask the student to bring all relevant texts with them for the lesson.
If you also have past exam papers please also bring those..
I have recently reduced my rates in recognition of the economic climate. I am negotiable to an extent in cases of hardship so please feel free to enquire.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Eve!
I have a First-Class Honours BA in Theatre, Film and Television from the University of Bristol. Being at the earliest-established performance department in the UK meant I was able to draw on a wealth of academic and practical knowledge and facilities. I later completed an MA at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and Birkbeck College, receiving a Distinction. Projects I have worked on include the More Than Words Festival with BBC Radio 4 and an audio tour in collaboration with the mayor of Bristol.
Alongside my creative career, I enjoy sharing my knowledge of performance theory and practice with others. I can help you and/or your child with written exams or essays. I can also support you in developing your practical skills! I recently helped a student to successfully gain a place at Central School of Speech and Drama and have previously guided students in writing their own playtexts/screenplays.
Teaching Experience:
I have:
- Over 5000 hours of tutoring experience.
- Home-schooled
- Taught online
- Worked with those of all nationalities aged 2-65
- Helped students with learning difficulties
- Completed a CELTA course in teaching English as a Foreign Language, giving grammatical rigor and expert teaching training.
- Stayed with families in Finland, France and Sardinia undertaking residential tutoring work.
Performance topics I frequently tutor include:
- Documentary
- Feminism
- Globalisation
- Architecture/Space
- Silent Cinema
- World Cinema
- Science Fiction
- Western
- French New Wave
- In-Yer-Face Theatre
- Early Twentieth-century Avante Garde
- Community Theatre
My practical specialties include voice coaching, playwriting, character development and audition technique.
Tutoring Approach:
I always come prepared so as to maximise your time within the session. I will help you to gain a broad understanding of what cinema/theatre involve as well as helping you to narrow down and analyse key sections of a script, live performance or film - an attention to detail is what will help you to achieve fantastic results!
If you require help with grammar, vocabulary etc. we can read through your work and identify errors. I will teach you simple techniques to make your writing more fluent and I will help you to draw out your own original, creative ideas!
In between my degrees, I co-founded a successful non-profit organisation which I led as CEO for two years. I am, therefore, very experienced with project management so can help you to draw up and stick to a simple study/project timetable if desired.
I work with an increasing number of students across the world, using free digital tools to make the sessions interesting and collaborative.

Personal Description:
I have cisco webex software, zoom and skype, and am also DBS cleared
I am a highly experienced, enthusiastic and very versatile optical engineering senior lecturer/researcher, who gained a PhD from the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, City University, London, UK in "Fibre optical temperature and strain sensors using fluorescent techniques" for measurement applications using the fluorescence generated from rare earth-doped optical fibres (e.g. Er3+, Yb3+, Tm3+ etc.). I also possess very good experience and knowledge of industry, with excellent complimentary skills gained from higher education - in particular industrial measurement, forensic analysis, quality control and statistical analysis. A BSc first degree in forensic science is combined with a further specialist MSc in engineering metrology and topped with a PhD in photonics - making for good, broad-based, multi-disciplined measurement science and analytical capabilities right across the scientific spectrum. I have a proven high degree of personal motivation, and am capable of working on my own initiative or equally as part of an effective team. In addition, I am able to communicate very well at all levels of hierarchy, with excellent skills developed in scientific report writing (journal papers, periodicals, book chapters etc.) and oral presentation (conferences, lecturing etc). I have over 50 publications to date in my field: 20 journal papers, 22 conference papers, 2 articles, 4 book chapters and other major works.
PhD thesis title:
"Fibre optic sensors based on fluorescence lifetime techniques for temperature and strain measurement"
Thesis submitted for examination for the degree of
Doctor of Philosophy
at
City University
School of Engineering
November 2002
Abstract
The author presents a thesis based upon the use of the fluorescent properties of rare earth doped materials. The thesis commences with a review of the current fibre sensor technology in the field, with special emphasis on those sensors designed for temperature and strain measurement. The use of the physical phenomena of fluorescence produced from rare earth doped optical fibre for temperature measurement is then introduced and explained in more detail, particularly with regard to utilisation of the fluorescence lifetime technique in such sensing, which is then compared to the other fluorescence-based methods for measuring temperature.
The recently discovered small strain sensitivity of the fluorescence lifetime is then introduced as a theoretical candidate for potential application to simultaneous temperature-strain sensing, using two different doped fibres in a single sensing element, and subsequently state-of-the-art temperature-strain discrimination techniques are then explored for the purposes of exploitation to dual measurement.
Results achieved from using the fluorescent lifetime approach for a range of rare earth materials are then presented, followed by further results obtained from combining the lifetime technique with Fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) for the first time. Also, the irreversible effects upon FBG performance after exposure to long-term high temperatures are explored.
Finally, there is a summary of the work presented in this thesis and the author's opinions on achievements made. Current trends in fluorescence lifetime-based sensing are discussed, both commercially and academically, together with projected work for the future.

¡Hola! I am Alba. I was born in the south of Spain and have lived there for the majority of my life. I did Spanish Studies as a degree in Huelva (near Seville), and later enrolled in an MA for Spanish Teaching as a Foreign Language in my home town, Granada. I then moved to the UK to work as an Assistant Teacher of Spanish in London, which led me to taking the PGCE course and acquiring Qualified Teacher Status. I am currently a teacher of Spanish at Secondary level in inner Birmingham.
Back in Spain I used to teach in an independent school in Ronda (Málaga), where we offered from one-to-one lessons to small classes of beginners to advanced level, and I absolutely loved it. In my experience, my students thrive in a more personalised environment of their choosing.
I am able to offer tuition from 9am - 5pm on Saturdays or Sundays in Moseley or nearby. We can meet at your house or in a local pub. Feel free to contact me for any queries or doubts!
¡Gracias!

Tutoring Approach:
I use a personalized teaching approach, combining direct instruction with differentiated strategies. Lessons focus on conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and exam techniques, often using past papers, practice questions, and real-world examples.
My goal is to help students think independently, understand concepts deeply, and achieve their full potential in mathematics.

Personal Description:
I'm a dedicated Maths tutor with a First-Class degree and postgraduate qualifications up to PhD level in Engineering. Alongside my work as a Group Finance Manager/Finance Director, I teach Maths with the same rigour, clarity, and commitment I bring to my leadership roles. Tutoring isn't a side hustle for me - it's a meaningful part of my professional life, and I'm passionate about helping students build confidence and truly understand the subject.
Teaching Experience:
With over 20 years of Maths teaching experience, I have supported learners from year 7 through to year 13, and a couple of university students - from those building foundational skills to students aiming for top grades. My approach is structured, clear, and focused on developing genuine understanding rather than memorisation. I provide tailored guidance on home study and revision techniques, and students who follow my recommendations have consistently achieved outstanding results, often acing their exams. I take pride in creating a supportive yet disciplined learning environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring approach is structured, thorough, and focused on genuine understanding. I break down concepts clearly and build knowledge step by step, ensuring students develop strong foundations rather than relying on memorisation. With over 20 years of experience and academic qualifications up to PhD level in Engineering, I'm able to explain even complex ideas in a simple, practical way.
I set high but achievable expectations. We do not move on from a topic until the student has demonstrated clear understanding - through practice, explanation, or problem‑solving. This ensures there are no gaps, no guesswork, and no false confidence.
Home study is an essential part of my method. I provide targeted practice and revision guidance, and students who follow my recommendations consistently achieve excellent results, often acing their exams. My goal is to build confidence, competence, and long‑term mastery of Maths.
