Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice

I like finding out how the world around me works, and am keen to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others. I also enjoy making or tinkering with things - I have customised a button accordion to play bass notes more flexibly, and have added extra buttons to video game controllers. In school I designed and constructed a solar-powered light of adjustable brightness. Patterns appeal to me. When I am not involved in science, I do Scottish Country Dancing, as well as many other genres of folk dancing with intricate symmetrical dance figures. My study of several languages, including Latin and German, allows me to identify parts of scientific terms that I can use to help my students understand them - for instance a recently discovered non-repeating tile is named Einstein not after the physicist but because only one ('ein') type of tile or stone ('stein') is needed to make the pattern. I find Richard Feynman inspiring. He himself got into science through tinkering and discussions with his father about how things worked. He spoke on beauty in nature, and that scientific understanding only enhances its appreciation - as well as seeing the beauty of a flower, a scientist can also wonder at its smaller structure, and how it developed to attract insects to pollinate it. What does this tell us about how bees see the world?

I have three years' experience conducting tutorials in Materials Science at Cambridge University, having myself studied Natural Sciences there, including Physics and Chemistry. For many years now, I have found great joy and passion in teaching and mentoring. I believe that being a good tutor involves more than just teach content; rather it involves introducing students to ways in which they can find new joy and enjoyment for the subjects whilst also offering mentoring and pastoral support for students and that is the kind of service that i ensure to deliver to all of my students. During my years of tutoring, I have honed my tutoring and mentoring skills to help KS3, GCSE, and A Level students achieve their full potential. With over 7 years of teaching experience, I have a proven track record of inspiring students to exceed their goals.

Teaching Experience:
As an experienced mentor and tutor, I have helped numerous pupils achieve academic success and pursue their dreams of becoming medical professionals. Over the course of 7 years, I have dedicated over 250 hours to tutoring challenging concepts in GCSE Maths and Science, as well as A Level Biology and Chemistry.

All of my students have seen an improvement of 2 or more grades, and every student has continued tuition with me after a first session. I take pride in guiding students through the difficult application processes and reviewing their personal statements, with a proven track record of helping them gain acceptance into medical school, psychology, and chemistry programs at leading universities.

In Summer 2019-2022, 100% of my pupils went from D/E grades to A*-B grades, demonstrating my ability to help students achieve their full potential. I am fortunate enough to have mentored and tutored previous students who have excelled in their A-Levels and have gone on to pursue medical degrees at the very same institution where I am studying.

My expertise has also been recognised by a leading research-intensive university in the UK, where I was appointed as a University Widening Participation Fellow in 2021/22. In this role, I provided teaching and mentoring for aspiring medical students aged 9-17 years old both online and in-person.

Tutoring Approach:

To ensure mastery of the subject, students are provided with high-yield exam questions and worksheets to complete, which we mark together to identify areas of strength and improvement.

My lessons focus on exam technique and effective study habits, two vital components of academic success. I teach students how to use evidence-based techniques such as active recall and spaced repetition to effectively retain information and review it strategically throughout the year.

I provide all students with specialised notes, revision questions, and exam questions tailored to their exam board, free of charge. In addition, assessments are provided every 4-6 weeks to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

But my commitment to my students goes beyond the "hour slot." I am available to answer questions and provide support via phone, email, and messaging. And I never clock-watch during lessons. I am fortunate to have also acquired a team and network of private tutors and professionals from many diverse fields and careers, all of which are happy to offer tuition and mentoring if necessary.
As the pandemic has changed the way we approach education, I have adapted my teaching methods to ensure continuity of learning for my students. Since COVID-19, I have accrued over 300 hours of online teaching and mentoring experience via Zoom and Microsoft Teams, providing a safe and convenient way for students to learn from the comfort of their own homes.

With digital copies of all teaching resources, including notes, homework booklets, and question papers, I am fully equipped to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning environment for my pupils. My priority is always student satisfaction, and I strive to ensure that every student feels supported and confident in their abilities.

I have always enjoyed teaching Physics and Mathematics to young learners. The satisfaction and confidence a student receives on the successful outcome of 2 or 3 years studying in school is shared with us both and cannot be underestimated. Tutoring creates a very special kind of bond not always found in large class school environments so the one to one sessions are particularly rewarding.

Teaching Experience:
With over 10 years experience in one to one tuition, I also have over 30 years experience in class teaching. This includes teaching Physics and Mathematics at GCSE and A Level, general Science subjects up to GCSE, Applied Science at BTec, and Vocational Science. I keep up to date with all curriculum developments and any changes to exam requirements. I also offer tuition to students undertaking a Foundation degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering, and some related HND courses.
I have now left full-time class teaching to focus on individual tuition.

I currently work full-time at a PRU in Nottingham, alongside tutoring a number of private students. Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching and tutoring since 2008 and have extensive experience supporting students up to GCSE level in Maths and the sciences. I currently work full-time at a PRU in Nottingham, where I work with young people with a range of abilities, backgrounds and individual learning needs. Alongside this, I tutor a number of private students on a one-to-one basis. This experience has helped me develop a flexible approach to teaching, allowing me to identify gaps in a student's knowledge and adapt my lessons accordingly. My name is Gerda, and Sciences are a very big part of my life, however besides that I have also got many achievements in other areas. I am a finalist of the largest public speaking contest in the UK. Graduate of a training programme for young leaders and am now an aspiring Medical Student at Imperial Collage London.

Teaching Experience:
I've spent several years teaching children and am now expanding into Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics tutoring. With seven grade 9s at GCSE, including in these subjects, I understand exactly what's required to reach the top grades.
