When did you start tutoring?
I have started tutoring one of my classmates while I was still in secondary school. It was a rewarding experience and it is quite interesting to go back to those times and compare how much has changed over the years in my lessons.

Why do you tutor?
I was always passionate about explaining Maths and Science to my peers back in school but I could have never imagined that it would become such a core part of my life. Tutoring is not just a source of income for me, it's something that makes me feel valuable in society, it allows helping so many amazing students around the UK to proceed in their future studies and careers. And it was never just theory and exams that we cover during our lessons, my tutoring sessions inevitably involve critical thinking and applying the knowledge in real life, thus I can contribute to students' lives even more.

What is your biggest tutoring success story?
Creating my own professional database of exam-type questions (the aforementioned startup) proved to be a success in my tutoring career since it allowed to spend more time and energy on creating quality resources for students and reuse them during different lessons. It was hard to see the value of the questions initially, but I have noticed that some students started to appreciate them so much that they no longer want to use a textbook during our lessons and I can focus more on their solutions rather than creating questions on the spot. Fast forward two years, 97% of my lessons are delivered using this system!

What is your biggest tutoring failure?
I could not distinguish a particular biggest failure while tutoring but there have been several cases when I was able to assess my tutoring, communication, preparation for lessons and enhance them accordingly. Such cases are responsible for the current structure of my lessons, communication with students and their parents, software and hardware that I use for tutoring and messaging. It really seems that every new challenge creates an opportunity for my services to be improved.

What are the students you love and hate to teach?
To be honest, I have not had any students that I hated to teach, they all are just different. With some pupils we have to thoroughly go through every concept in a topic and revise them later to build the knowledge up. However, that is not always the case with students who are already successful and aim for excellence. They usually solve provided questions quite quickly and I am just left checking answers and correcting silly mistakes. Therefore, I love tutoring every student, regardless of their skills and knowledge.

Who are you as a person?
I love reading books, I try to live a healthy life and be a responsible consumer. For 10 years I was a professional performer of dancesport, I was a swimmer with fins, a solo singer and participant in various science olympiads. I like reading articles, listening to talks and podcasts about how science and technology can be applied in both our lives and solving environmental problems.

What's your teaching style?
Students might decide by themselves how they want to learn during tutoring sessions, but otherwise, I always personalise my lessons according to their level and aims. There is always an option to go through a past paper or questions that a student did not understand at school or we can cover some topics fully by using a textbook. However, if they just want to revise a broader part of a subject or to cover something that they have missed at school, we can solve thousands of exam-like questions that I have got covered.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually start with the current topics that student is studying in the school and explain to the student that topic and related background knowledge. As I teach one to one, my pace is faster than school and we usually finish the topic in one or sometimes two classes. And then we do previous topics and I explain doubts on those topics. I have a surface pro with a pen for online lessons. In economics and maths, I use an online whiteboard which students have permanent access to, to write notes and solutions to exam questions. My approach is to accelerate students as fast as possible through their given course using exam material to deepen and develop their knowledge. I find I can accelerate students rapidly in maths (at GCSE and A-level), whilst they greatly enjoy the subject and the sessions. Students quickly improve at school too, which gives them extra confidence in their talents and capabilities. I set students past papers questions and we resolve any difficulties they had in the session. Iterating through past paper questions in this manner leads to exceptional results: a student of mine came in the top 1% in the entrance exam against Oxford University applicants and gained a place. I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.

I have a passion for my degree and I think that the joy of physical science problem solving is one that can be easily lost in a school environment. A positive relationship between tutor and tutee is essential for effective learning, so building a respectful and trusting dynamic is the basis of my work. I always seek to focus on improving and deepening understanding with an approach that reduces anxiety and builds confidence and motivation.

My teaching style is collaborative and supportive. I am friendly and approachable with a real concern for each student's experiences, passions and difficulties and how I might best help them. I take a flexible approach to build positive relationships with students of varying interests and personalities.

Building a student's understanding of the fundamentals of the subject is key as this leads to deep and effective long term learning and will build confidence in the student and also their cognitive abilities to perform at higher levels.

Teaching Experience:
I help younger people as a private tutor towards GCSE and A-levels in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics - either in person or online.

I help students with attaining the grades they need to continue their studies into the 6th form or for entry into their chosen University to study subjects such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, chemistry, biomedical sciences, etc. Testimonials are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:
I provide strategies to help students manage the stresses of exams. This includes time management in exams and methods to maximise marks in exams in such a way to give the student confidence during any given paper.

Primarily, I undertake one-to-one tuition either in person or online. I enjoy working to improve their understanding and learning - giving them confidence to tackle the various aspects of the subject matter with confidence and efficiency.

I focus on their weaker areas of any given subject whilst reinforcing the aspects where they are already comfortable.

I have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (PhD), with years of first hand experience in satisfactorily engaging and supporting students as I attempt to demystify and tear down barriers (or challenges) in different subjects areas. Hi! I'm David and I'm a year 13 student having just graduated from St Paul's School London and finished A levels and looking to go on to study Mathematics at either the University of Cambridge or Imperial College London next year, with 4 A* predicted and 9s in 11/11 subjects at GCSE. I really love Maths and Physics and so I naturally have spent lots of time trying to understand the entire A level syllabus, to the point where I'm now confident I could teach it and anything below that to absolutely anybody, and would love to be able to help those who want to improve their grades. I have had the most wonderful teachers during my time at school and so I am now confident that I can transmit any concepts and ideas lucidly to any of my tutees.

Teaching Experience:
I've tutored previously in St Mary's Ukrainian School for a period of 6 months, where I tutored GCSE Maths and brought up three peoples' grades from a 7 to a 9, a 6 to an 8 and a 6 to a 9 respectively. Although I had to stop the tutoring due to other commitments the students that I tutored said that they would absolutely have continued if I had had the availability, and it heped me understand more where people struggle and how to best help them with their studies.

Of course I think the question volume is important but beneath all of that I think that you need to have a comprehensive understanding of the subject in order to build confidence for the actual exam so I might use various questions as examples (which I'm very well versed in having just finished A levels) but if it's clear that there's a fundamental gap in understanding I'll address that first before teaching them how to do the questions.
