It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. I realised I had a flare for imparting knowledge when I became a basketball trainer at 15, working with Primary and Secondary pupils. Teaching Experience:
After my Master's in History of Art and a Bachelor in Culture Heritage, I worked for a multicultural organisation that supports foreign women originally from disadvantaged backgrounds; I taught Italian to the adults and helped the children with their homework for one year.
After moving to the UK, one of my first jobs was teaching art classes to pre-schoolers and giving Italian speaking and reading lessons to two children whose parents are bilingual.
In July 2021 I completed the CELTA qualification to teach English as a foreign language and from August 2021 to March 2023 I taught art classes to disadvantaged children in a local Community Centre in South East London.
I am currently teaching English for Everyday and ESOL in an Adult College.
I am also experienced in teaching elderly people how to use Zoom and applications that are part of the Microsoft Office package.

Relaxed at the beginning: I need to understand why the person wants to learn that specific subject and what outcome they are determined to achieve.
Once this has been established, I become passionate about results as much as the client: their achievement is mine too.

I am a highly experienced and qualified teacher of English as a foreign/second language with 25 years of teaching groups and individuals from beginners to advanced, children to adults, in universities, languages schools and online all around the world. I aim to improve fluency and my classes are interesting and fun because they focus on you, your interests and your environment. For this reason I prefer you to have an intermediate level at the very least so that we can converse and enjoy ourselves!

Teaching Experience:
I have taught all ages and levels in universities and language schools in the U.K.,France and Spain. I taught in a post A-Level business school in Montpellier, France. In Reims, France I was a teacher of English at the faculty of Technology and Science.
I specialised in Business and Advanced English in a Spanish language school and was a Cambridge examiner for 13 years.
I taught management and staff English for the Hotel Industry in a 5-star resort in Laos.
I taught English to children and teenagers at a summer Sailing and English course at a sailing club in Barcelona.
I now teach online and have students from countries as diverse as Brazil, Turkey, Poland and Taiwan. I use Skype as a platform. Classes are 55 minutes.
I teach adults but also adolescents (£10 for half-hour sessions)
I offer a 15-minute free class to see if we can work happily together.

Tutoring Approach:
The class is as open and free as you or I make it. Conversation can turn to literature, film, music or discussions about our lives. There is great respect and kindness on my part. I am curious to get to know you as a person, your culture and likes and dislikes. I am sociable and likeable. I am always in a good mood, bubbly and smiling. I correct your grammar and write all new vocabulary and expressions in the chat so you can look over it after the class. I only revise or teach grammar points if I feel it's necessary or you ask for it. Most people have studied grammar but now need to use it by speaking! This is a fluency class and I aim to make you fluent! I guarantee you will enjoy yourself and time will fly by!

I am an extremely skilled and dedicated teacher with nearly 30 years of classroom teaching experience, within the London Borough of Redbridge. I hold a degree in psychology, followed by a Postgraduate qualification in Education (PGCE), specialising in English. As a result, I achieved my QTS (Qualified Teaching Status).

Alongside my teaching career, I have consistently tutored children on a one-to-one basis, including home educated learners. Hello, I'm Alex! I'm a highly experienced English tutor, educator and creative writing coach. I specialise in targeted GCSE and A-Level exam preparation for the AQA, Eduqas, OCR, and Edexcel exam boards. My focus is on delivering measurable results.

I graduated from Falmouth University with a First-Class degree in English in 2018. Alongside private tutoring, I am also a widely published poet and creative writing coach.

Teaching Experience:
I've been tutoring and working in educational settings for a decade.

Following graduation and prior to the pandemic, I began working in schools as a teaching assistant and educational support worker in preparation for my teacher training.

Tutoring Approach:
Many students who come to see me are already quite advanced in their core skills, but we often find that this does not always translate into consistently high or predictable results. In these cases, my role is to help students adapt and refine their existing abilities to meet the specific demands of their exam board. This is about developing the know-how to turn strong English into high-scoring exam responses: understanding the assessment objectives in detail, recognising precisely what each objective requires, and learning how to shape writing so that it consistently targets and fulfils them. The aim is to help students understand how to maximise the effectiveness of their ideas, analysis and argument so that their existing abilities translate into the marks they are capable of achieving.

Other students may need more targeted support with deficiencies in core skills such as analysis, evaluation, inference, contextual integration or the confident use of literary theory. These students can benefit from in-depth, expert lessons and carefully tailored resources designed to build those skills while also unlocking some of the more challenging texts and concepts within their syllabus. My approach is always adapted to the individual student: identifying precisely where greater understanding, practice or confidence is needed and addressing those areas systematically.

Whatever a student's starting point or requirements, my approach is fundamentally student-centred. I see myself less as a traditional teacher and more as a facilitator of learning: someone whose job is to help students become increasingly independent, thoughtful and confident thinkers. Ultimately, I want students to learn how to think for themselves rather than simply reproduce what they have been taught. This is particularly important in English and the humanities, where the ability to form, develop and defend one's own ideas is not only intellectually valuable but consistently rewarded in assessment.

I utilise a state of the art online whiteboard; I set homework each week; and produce tailored resources for each student.
