Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years experience of teaching Chemistry and Biology at all levels up to A Level, and I am still teaching. This includes 7 years as Head of Department, and I am currently teaching A-Level Chemistry and Biology, plus Access courses, at a central London college.

I have 17 years experience as an examiner for OCR, Edexcel and AQA in both Chemistry and Biology at A Level and GCSE Science. I am familiar with all major exam boards in Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. I have also been a personal tutor for the past 28 years.

In all areas I have had excellent success and can supply references if asked. I hold an up to date DRB certificate. I am considered to be patient and understanding, but I can also be a motivator when required to help students reach their maximum potential.

Online tutoring
I am very experienced in online tutoring. Since the lockdown I have taught hundreds of hours online and have found it to be nearly as effective as face to face teaching. I am proficient in the use of different software platforms including two way online whiteboards, PowerPoint, Word, Acrobat PDF and document cameras. This allows lessons to be clear, interactive and well resourced whether we are working through revision notes, past papers or complex diagrams.

I teach A-Level, AS, GCSE, BTEC and Access courses in Chemistry and Biology, as well as GCSE and Environmental Science. I also support students applying for Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing with UCAS, personal statements and preparation for BMAT and UKCAT.

Online tutoring is now a major part of my practice and has been very successful. I am very experienced in delivering lessons online and have logged over 150 hours teaching students across the UK and internationally. With the right setup, online tuition can be just as effective as face to face.

All that I can say is that Ellie is fantastic. When she was teaching myself and my brother A Level Chemistry, she always gave short, concise explanations of concepts in a way that we easily understood. Also, she gave us past paper questions after each topic so that we had plenty of practice at exam technique. She marked these and sent us feedback on what to improve on. This meant that when it came around to do our exams, we were fully prepared for them and confident that we could do well. I am yet to come across a student who doesn't possess the potential to improve. More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Through the 1-to-1 work I do with students, not only have I witnessed some remarkable grade improvements but also some amazing transformations in confidence. I strongly feel that the work I do is more than merely improving grades for exams.

My revision techniques are clearly effective and want to help students who want to learn and set their goals in life. I can also help with giving advice for a levels as I am currently studying biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level myself. There are multiple different ways to learn and I can help find the right way to learn for you. After having tutored many of my friends and family in the younger years, I realised that I have a passion for teaching as I can make even the most mediocre thing interesting and understandable. I am open to teaching online virtually, so you don't even have to travel anywhere- all at a reasonable price! Each lesson will be approximately an hour long, whenever at your convenience as long as I can find time on my schedule as well to teach.

Personal Description:
A second year medic at the University of Edinburgh. I graduated with 44/45 in the IB.

I did not get where I am today by myself. I had help - friends, family, and teachers. I know how much impact a teacher can have, and I just want to help where I can.

Prior to Uni, I spent 2 years in the Army developing ,training and leading frontline soldiers. I have seen people from all walks of life and am committed to developing and teaching my students as well.

Teaching Experience:
Prior to Uni, I tutored final year IB students for a year. Prior to that, I did not have any formal teaching assignments, only teaching friends or some of my soldiers when I was serving. Despite that, I have been coaching for most of my life. Since I was 15 I have been mentoring my juniors in my extra curriculars at school, so I am well versed when it comes to different methods of mentoring.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy getting to know my students beyond their academic needs; building a connection and seeing that they are supported in any way that I can.

I also believe in understanding rather than memorizing, so I teach my students skills that will help them approach problems logically instead of just memorizing the textbook.

I am flexible and can tailor lesson times specific to the student.
