I am a London-based artist, with a BA from the Slade and an MA from the Royal College of Art. I exhibit regularly with galleries in the UK and abroad. Residencies include the Abbey Fellowship at the British School at Rome and Palazzo Monti. I have been shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the John Moores Painting Prize. In my studio practice I use a range of painting mediums and approaches, including oils, watercolour and fresco.

Teaching Experience:
I teach Drawing and Painting in all mediums. For eight years I was a Core Tutor on the Foundation Year at the Royal Drawing School (now part of the King's Foundation). This involved leading painting workshops, one-to-one tutorials and portfolio guidance.

I have taught art to people of all ages, though predominantly to teenagers and young adults.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach is to work out what the student's needs are, through listening, rather than trying to impose a particular idea. Having said that, I would generally encourage drawing and painting from observation, at least as a foundation for other projects. My strengths are in painting with water colour, oil and acrylic, as well as drawing. I am able to help students build on their understanding of art history and I can give advice and guidance on any written work.

I have an open and adaptive approach, in that each student is unique and has something individual to express. Everyone has different desires for their arts discovery.

I take into account experience knowledge and ambitions and devise a structural plan for progression. I draw up a list of artists for the student to study, both contemporary and classic. I am a qualified Art and Photography teacher with a PGCE in Art & Design from Goldsmiths, University of London, and an MA in Fashion Photography from London College of Fashion.

I like to open a project with multiple solutions or approaches and discuss which is the option that stands out most. Then develop and evolve this choice into a more substantial solution. I find that using visual aids, such as power points really help, as well as using video examples where necessary. I genuinely enjoy working together with the students. When I conducted a stone carving workshop at NIE( National Institute of Education) in Singapore, where I taught students how to transfer 2D ideas to 3D but carving directly onto limestone, it can be an upheaval task for students but to scaffold them to visualise their plan, see through the process from beginning to the end, problem-solving, tweaking, translating the 2D idea into 3D effectively, seeing them succeed and execute, gave me the feeling of satisfaction and joy. I realise then this is what I want to do, to teach. It was very different from an artist satisfaction.

I have been drawing and painting professionally for 14 years.
