I am a London-based artist, with a BA from the Slade and an MA from the Royal College of Art. I exhibit regularly with galleries in the UK and abroad. Residencies include the Abbey Fellowship at the British School at Rome and Palazzo Monti. I have been shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the John Moores Painting Prize. In my studio practice I use a range of painting mediums and approaches, including oils, watercolour and fresco.

I teach Drawing and Painting in all mediums. For eight years I was a Core Tutor on the Foundation Year at the Royal Drawing School (now part of the King's Foundation). This involved leading painting workshops, one-to-one tutorials and portfolio guidance.

I have taught art to people of all ages, though predominantly to teenagers and young adults.

My approach is to work out what the student's needs are, through listening, rather than trying to impose a particular idea. Having said that, I would generally encourage drawing and painting from observation, at least as a foundation for other projects. I currently Subject Lead in Art and Design in a secondary school in Bishops Stortford and have a first class honours degree in Illustration and extensive skills in digital media including web design, image manipulation and design for print. Particular strengths of mine are life drawing and painting. I also have skills in textiles, quilt making, sewing and other crafts. I often like to introduce my students to new ways of working by combining media in creative ways. I have a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design as well as an MA in Art and Design in Education. I enjoy the creative process, especially when it is shared with others and I pride myself on helping students achieve the highest levels in public examinations. My students regularly achieve A*/level 9 and in the June 2024 series one of my A level students was commended as receiving one of the highest marks in the country from the exam board OCR. I have taught in the UK for over 10 years and have extensive experience in teaching Art at A-level and at GCSE. I see myself as a 2D specialist as I can do a number of different techniques and have an experimental approach to teaching Art. Every project is unique and I am constantly learning. I have worked with a number of exam boards and even consulted with OFQUAL where I helped look at the standards in the exam board across the Country. I am a professional in my field and will be able to support students in developing their Art and Design skills and will aim to make it a personal journey where students choose their own technique and learn to develop this in line with the requirements of the Examination Board.

Tutoring Approach:
I would work with the student to find out exactly what their special skill is in Art. Students will need to find a topic that inspires them and do some visual research on this and I would then help the students by teaching them a range of different techniques, learning how to draw in a number of media from pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen and ink, biro and graphite and then teach them how to paint in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and use a mixed media approach. Textiles is also a medium I would offer students and basic construction techniques. Adobe photoshop skills is also important in developing photographic images as part of the development. Developing different skills until the student finds out what they particularly enjoy working with and helping the student to explore different media to extend their ideas and lead the students up to developing a final piece. The students would then have a whole project from beginning to end which will help with portfolio development.

My name is Josephine and I'm 32 years old. I'm Danish but have lived in London since 2014 when I did my BA in Fine Art.
I have a Master's Degree in Animation Film from The Royal College of Art.
The past 8 months I've lived in Hebden Bridge between Manchester and Leeds to open our first Studio in FedUP Studio Lab, the production company where I work part time. My role is producer and assistant creative director. I'm a freelancer director in the company as well.
I'm currently living in London where I also arrange workshops in art and animation with galleries, UAL and FedUP Studio Lab. I'm enthusiastic, and I have a great love for knowledge and teaching as much as making films and art.

I enjoy tutoring because the process between student and tutor is wonderful. I learn just as much as my students and when you have worked hard for a while and start to see a shift in their behaviour when studying - understanding or producing - and they end up challenging you or teaching you instead, that is absolutely fantastic. It is the curiosity, development, hard work and shared knowledge.
