I am 50 years of age and have a wealth of experience in many aspects of life, including education and commerce. I have taught in colleges and schools and have run my own computer software company. I also have experience of property development. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy the challenge of helping students to achieve their best; I enjoy working one to one with students or in small groups; tutorials are tailor made for each student, based on an assessment and previous exam results. I am a Mathematics graduate from Cambridge University. Since 2009, I have been successfully tutoring Mathematics full-time to well over 300 pupils, with about 95% of my students achieving or surpassing their desired grades.
Before that, I worked in the IT industry, initially for a large corporation and then for an independent software house. I later formed my own company, specialising in developing applications for small- to medium-sized companies.
I study extensively to keep up to date with the latest mathematical ideas and educational trends. I ensure that I am familiar with the most recent syllabuses.
Outside work, my main interest is music, particularly singing. I belong to two choirs, one of which I am chairman.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe in tailoring the teaching approach to each student's needs and individual learning style. For school children and university students, I discuss their aims with them - and with their parents, if required - to determine what topics need additional tuition and then to work out the appropriate programme. I advocate continuous assessment to measure the student's progress. Closer to exams, the pupils will work through focused papers. At this stage, strategic choices may be made to concentrate on the pupil's strengths.
My core teaching is for A levels. I have discovered that certain topics in the new syllabus often require extra explanation and practice. These are:
Pure: Logs, integration, and trigonometry
Statistics: Hypothesis testing
Mechanics: Forces and projectiles
For adults, I work with them to develop a personalised programme to enable them to achieve their goals. This may mean working towards a specific qualification they need.
I have great passion for and a deep knowledge of Mathematics. My aim is always to get my students to enjoy the subject. Most importantly, they are encouraged to gain confidence in their own abilities by building on what they feel comfortable with. I believe that the right teacher can undo wrong learning very quickly.
Although online currently, lessons would normally take place at the student's home, or at my home in Kingston, where I have a quiet study. Assignments and homework are an integral part of my teaching: there can be no improvement without practice.

I am a certified teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. In May 2012 I finished the Master de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, FP y Enseñanza de Idiomas in Spain, a program similar to a PGCE. I am also working on the dissertation on another master program that will qualify me as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. I enjoy Qualified Teaching Status since November 2012 and I am familiar with the English curriculum and the programme of study for KS3-4 in all aspects related to teaching Spanish as a MFL. I have taught Spanish to people of all ages and nationalities and also have classroom experience as a Chemistry Teacher (ages 15-16 and 17-18).

From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.

As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.

The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

I am a Mandarin speaker. I studied in UK since 2013. I got my Master Degree from the University of Manchester. The subject is Electrical Engineering. I have lots of hobbies, football, basketball, magic tricks, dancing salsa and travelling. In my opinion, life is limited, but the quality depends on how you spend it. The most important thing about learning a different language is passion. I would rather teach student Chinese from the area they are interested into than routine staff. For example, their hobbies, favourite movies, musics, sports and so forth. As far as I concerned, enthusiasm is essential not only for teacher but also for student. I am a professional and practising international artist with experience in the art industry in the UK, Europe and Asia. I have an active studio practice and I work mainly with sculpture, casting, installation and analogue photography, but I have extensive experience in painting, printmaking, paper making, drawing.
I have also been working as a studio assistant for several internationally known artists both in the UK and in Europe and as a photographer's assistant.
