Personal Description:

👋 ¡Hola!

My name is Fernando and I am a qualified Spanish Teacher with +10 years of experience teaching Spanish.

I have a Master's Degree in Education with specialisation in second language acquisition and I hold full QTS (Qualified Teacher Status in the UK). I am also a certified Instituto Cervantes DELE examiner Cervantes Institute DELE examiner.

Currently, I am doing my PhD in Hispanic Studies while I teach Spanish part-time at Aberystwyth University (Wales), so the Spanish language really is my bread and butter!

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching Spanish in different settings, especially in Higher Education in the UK. In the past I have taken different teaching roles at Coventry University or the University of Birmingham. I have also worked as a private tutor, preparing for GCSE and A-Levels Spanish as well as organising 1:1/group courses for adult learners. I have ample experience working with beginner users of the language and working our way up to confident use.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, my approach is to be flexible with student's needs. I have a preference for communicative approaches, using my own materials and real documents, like songs, ads or news articles. In my classes, you will learn by doing, experiencing a first-hand use of the language.

I have experience designing engaging courses with ample range of materials and achievable learning aims. In my classes you will get learning aims per unit and session and every now and then we'll have a chat about what is working and what is failing, how much we have progressed and the way forward.

My main objective is making lessons engaging, challenging, and effective, always tailored to the needs of the students, and with a progression in mind.
