I am currently on a gap year where I would be at University if not for covid. I have passions for music, martial arts and maths (so long as it starts with an M, it's probably good). I think that this year has been a nightmare for students and teachers alike and I would love to lend my experience to help out with any students struggling, so I have decided to take on online tutoring work during this year.

I think it's most important that the student understands the essence of the subject and can think critically about it, and I like to discuss this with students until we can apply this understanding to the syllabus and the exam to come such that anything they've learned before or will learn on that topic will make sense. I moved to the UK in 2004 from my home country of Latvia, and just like my students, I was a non-native speaker in a new country, trying to learn a foreign language and adapt to a new culture and way of life. I really do know how it feels to be the person who needs that extra bit of support. I genuinely understand how confusing it is to try and learn all the grammar, all the punctuation, the spelling, how to write essays, how to understand all the idioms that are such a big part of the English language, but make absolutely no sense!

My name is Ella and I am Head of Spanish in a leading Independent School in Cardiff.

I have taught both French and Spanish to A Level for 10 years, and have experience teaching WJEC, AQA and Edexcel specifications. I hold a BA (Hons) in French and Hispanic Studies from King's College London, for which I received a 2:1, an MA in Art History with a particular focus on Spanish Art History and socio-political artistic exchange, for which I received a Distinction, and I completed my NPQML qualification in 2021.
