Personal Description:
The opportunity to teach both my Technical craft and Autocad has arisen more by accident than design for most of my Professional career. I am led to believe that I have a natural ability in engaging interest, particularly in younger people through a combination of both my communication skills and technical ability. This produces immediate rewards in contrast to the often lengthy process of Project work which can easily dilute job satisfaction.
I believe a fundamental part of Teaching is the ability to speak the language of the pupil - more esoteric now than ever before. Understanding and respecting their language and culture enhances the learning process and contributes to mutual satisfaction and success.

Teaching Experience:
In the 1970's and 80's my employers ; Bain, Swan Architects had a healthy Apprenticeship policy. Throughout this period, they recruited locally in conjunction with colleges in Galashiels and Ashington. I was asked if I would consider mentoring the Office's Apprentice Technicians due to my apparent communication skills and technical ability. I enjoyed this auxiliary role, particularly, as it frequently engaged me in improving my own technical education to answer their endless questions. The tuition procedure had the additional benefit of enhancing the Practice's hand-drawn presentation work through educating the apprentices in the provision of accurate, informative and harmonious drawings. This was a flair which I had developed over the years in pre-computer times and employ to this day whenever possible, despite the icy perfections of Autocad.

Working in London in the late 1990's I was invited to teach many aspects of my craft in to JJA Academy pupils in night classes.These were generally foreign students to whom I provided additional Autocad tuition, hand drafting techniques and Installation construction. I discovered that the judicious use of sketches and diagrams easily demolished any language barriers. Encouraged by the senior lecturers my confidence developed in this supplementary role.
With Wintersgill Faulkner in 1999 I was invited to create and teach a dedicated layering system in Autocad to improve the Practice's presentation output. The younger members of staff had a fairly haphazard approach to defining different materials which made their work difficult to read both on-screen and on the plotted drawings - even if it was generally correct.The principle I employed was based upon the old British Standard conventions for : colouring drawings, hatching and line density. It is rewarding to know that the same CTB file is still their standard office practice 10 years later.
By word of mouth I have taught basic 2D Autocad to several private pupils during the last 10 year period, one of whom currently has a Technical practice in Bury St. Edmunds

I have been a primary school teacher since 1986 and have worked across the age range from 6 to 11. I have a good deal of experience teaching children in Year 6 and preparing them for the step up to secondary school. I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I am not a single-subject specialist who might find it difficult to understand why others struggle in their area of expertise.
For students who are preparing for exams, my knowledge of examination technique, and an empathy with the marker, should be invaluable. I always keep in mind the importance of the student's goals, but never take myself too seriously.

Teaching Experience:
My whole career has been geared towards some form of teaching. I have trained groups of adults and children, as well as individuals, in elements of mathematics, psychology, actuarial science, pensions, and even tennis! I have tutored both of my children through IGCSEs, GCSEs, and A-levels (one was home-schooled, the other attended a local comprehensive and 6th Form College). Both obtained numerous As and A*s, and I was particularly pleased to help my daughter to achieve 3 A*s in her A2 exams.

I look at what is important for the student. I emphasise clear, logical ways of working, and clear presentation. I make sure that they realise that they not only need to understand why they are doing something, but they must also be able to explain it clearly. Explaining a difficult concept to someone else can often be the best way to make yourself remember it. I am calm and patient, and English is my first language, all of which can help when a student finds something tricky.

Hi, I am currently a 20 year old university student living in Birmingham, studying Medicine at the University of Birmingham. I enjoy working with children and passing on my knowledge in an understandable way, as someone who has recently undertaken GCSE's and A levels myself I feel that I can offer the highest degree of teaching and revision to students aged 11-16 through use of my recent personal experiences of coping with exams and figuring out effective learning and revision methods for certain areas of each subject

I have mentored year 4 students in maths before as part of a scheme within school, as well as year 7 students. In total I have tutored 8 students over the last 2 years, all of whom achieved what they set out to achieve when I started my tutoring, from getting into the Liverpool Blue Coat School (the school that achieved the highest national GCSE grades the year that I sat GCSE's), to getting a grade 8 in maths (A* equivalent)

Tutoring Approach:
I feel that my unique selling point is that as a student myself, I can relate to the struggles that other students encounter when subjects are taught and delivered to them. My weaknesses and qualms during the GCSE and A level period were only resolved by my own active learning to teach myself topics which I couldn't grasp correctly from lessons, and I feel that these are areas and topics many students will find difficulty in understanding, whether it be in Maths, Biology or Chemistry, and so I believe I can effectively pass on my knowledge to help students achieve the highest grades by learning the trickier topics from a different perspective. I have been playing guitar for 20 years and teaching music for 7 years. I have been involved in a variety of different bands and ensembles within that time. My main focus throughout this time has been all kinds of rock music but I also have lots of experience in metal and acoustic singer/songwriter styles. I qualified from Leeds College of Music, gaining a 2:1 degree in Music Production and Performance, and possess a passion for all genres of music and teaching. I completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Higher Education Music at Edge Hill University in 2020, achieving a Distinction in the process.

As stated above I have been tutoring in music, guitar, bass and piano for around 7 years totally around 1000 individual hours. I have experience working in colleges at BTEC level having completed a PGCE placement at Access To Music Manchester.

I take a professional approach to teaching and I usually like to start the student off with a song to allow them to enjoy playing their instrument immediately. No matter what their ability, I find a student is always able to learn a song they know and by adopting this approach I find they progress much faster. Hello, I'm Donald - experienced tutor. I was educated at Edinburgh University and worked in the nuclear power industry for over 30 years. In that time I have undertaken teaching activities of various types. After retiring (2010), I started part time private tuition, with good results at all levels.

I have been a private tutor since 2010, with an average of about 10 pupils, weekly, during school term. I am happy to give tuition in-person, or online using Zoom and my own overhead camera system.

With regard to my approach to tutoring, I always put my students' requirements first and use these to dictate my lesson planning. Normally, I am working with a student towards an exam and part of my role is assisting the students to prepare for the exam and develop appropriate methods for tackling each question.
