Personal Description:
I'm Bashar, a third-year medical student at the University of Cambridge (Peterhouse), originally from Liverpool. Maths and the sciences have always been my strongest subjects, and I enjoy helping students find them as logical and manageable as I do. Outside my studies I captain and coach my college football team, which has taught me a lot about motivating people and building confidence. I tutor online and hold an enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
Teaching Experience:
I've been tutoring since 2022 and have delivered around 500 hours of one-to-one teaching, mainly in GCSE and A-Level Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I've worked with students across the major exam boards and a wide range of abilities, from those who needed to rebuild their confidence and secure a pass to high achievers pushing for 9s and A*s. Much of my work involves exam preparation: filling gaps in content, practising past papers, and sharpening exam technique in the run-up to mocks and final exams.
Tutoring Approach:
I begin by finding out exactly where a student is - which topics are secure, which aren't, and what's really holding them back. Sessions are then built around those gaps rather than a fixed script. I focus on genuine understanding first, so students can tackle unfamiliar questions rather than just memorise answers, then reinforce it with exam-style practice and clear feedback on how marks are awarded. I keep sessions structured but relaxed, set short goals between lessons, and keep parents updated on progress where appropriate. My aim is for every student to leave each session more confident than when they started.
