About Mark:
I am a 22 year old student at Portsmouth University and I am Currently studying Criminology and Criminal Justice in my final year there. I feel i have gained a lot of academic experience and can pass this on to those i tutor. I am friendly, approachable and outgoing and can communicate with varying age groups.

Teaching Experience:

Having already done several work placements in primary schools and having tutored privately several times beofre i feel i have a firm grounding in what is required of a tutor both academically and people skills wise. Upon completion of my Degree I have already been accepted to teach for a Secondary School within Portsmouth which I believe reflects how hard I work to achieving goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that it is very important to get to know the individual you are tutoring, obviously different people learn at different levels but you must also identify the best methods at getting them to understand the work they are undertaking. I like to interact with those i tutor and clarify what will be expected of them in exams or essays- together we then come up with an action plan of how best to appraoch a particular issue, especially if they are struggling with it.

About Sarah:
I have a degree in Modern Languages and have spent time living and working abroad. I then studied for my Postgraduate Teaching Certificate where I was able to spend a month teaching in France.
I enjoy spending time with my family and travelling. I am also a keen reader and art lover and have had the opportunity to visit many of the world's leading galleries.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent the last two years teaching in a primary school, where I had responsibility for teaching all subjects across the curriculum. I also set up and ran a school council so that children would have the opportunity to share their ideas with peers and members of staff. I have gained experience of teaching children with a variety of special educational needs.
Before that I taught English as a foreign language to young children in France and Russia.

Tutoring Approach:

I am keen to get the most out of a child through dedicated one to one sessions and by making the lessons fun and interesting. If a child enjoys what they are doing then they are far more likely to absorb what is being taught. I am happy to work closely with parents to ensure that they are fully aware of what happens in the sessions. I am flexible in my approach and will use whatever learning style best fits the student.

About Pamela:
Although I have not had any formal teaching training, I believe I am a competent maths tutor and am well able to provide one-to-one tutoring. I am a patient, friendly person, easy to get on with and have the ability to work well with people on a one-to-one basis which can be difficult to provide in a classroom setting.

I find tutoring a very satisfying experience and thoroughly enjoy helping people to improve their maths and achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring maths at the beginning of University for a friend's little brother who then achieved credit level at Standard Grade and went on to study for his maths Higher. I have had numerous students since, ranging from Primary, right through Secondary and University level, and even adults returning to education.

Tutoring Approach:

My general approach to tutoring is to go through the course with the student, picking up on the parts they are finding difficult and then explaining the theory, working on examples (including exam style questions) and ensuring a good knowledge base. To help improve the students basic skills and to pick up on any problems in this area, I try to start every lesson with starter questions, which include things that should have been learned before starting the course. Nearer to the exams I will go through past papers as well as helping the student with exam techniques. It is also important to help the student improve their self-confidence as this seems to be one of the biggest barriers for pupils sitting exams.

However each student is unique and their personal learning style different, so I am flexible and will adapt my approach to meet the students needs.

About Wasim:
Highly enthusiastic, motivated, and conscientious final year undergraduate student in Aerospace Engineering. As a student at University, I have been passing my examinations with 'First Class'. Moreover, I have obtained an effective average of over 80% throughout my whole course of study.

I am extremely efficient, reliable and able to adapt to people of all backgrounds and cultures. I have excellent time keeping skills and look forward to planning ahead. I am currently tutoring a large number of GCSE, A/L and University students on group and individual basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for First-Tutors, UK-Tutors and Home-Tutors for more than two years now. Since then, I have been tutoring students at four main levels - GCSEs, A/Ls and University 1st & 2nd Year.
I have also been a teacher for some time at my past school where I taught Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics for GCE A/L students. I could not continue teaching there because I had to continue my higher education.
Two years ago, I Voluntarily taught GCSE, GCE O/L and A/L Mathematics and Science subjects for students with genuine interest in their studies. These students have produced excellent results in their examinations.

The majority (about 70%) of my students have attained 'A' grade in the subjects for which I have been a tutor. The rest have attained 'B' and 'C' (minority) grades. There haven't been any grades less than a 'C' ever since I have been a tutor. I think this is a phenomenal record and I have been working hard to keep this standard of teaching at its highest level.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach students in many ways, this depends on the student's character, his learning abilities and how well he knows that particular subject. I would always be very friendly with the tutee and get to know where he stands in the subject(s). There will a faster rate of teaching with regular homework given to students to ensure that they understand what they will be taught. As the exams approach it will be a matter of fast track revision, doing past papers and going though marking schemes. I strongly believe that this would increase the student's ability and confidence, and thus leading to better performance in their examinations. In short, good results would be assured for students with genuine interest.

About Suzanne:
I'm a friendly and experienced teacher who works at Stroud School, one of Hampshire's leading independent preparatory schools. When I'm not teaching there, I offer tutoring in Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 subjects, specialising in Maths and English for children in and around the Southampton area at remarkably competitive rates. Please see suzanne martin tutoring.co.uk (no spaces) for further information.

Teaching Experience:

I have 4 years' primary teaching experience including teaching years 2-8. I have also marked key stage 2 SATs for several years, including both English and Maths papers, giving me an excellent insight into the exam process and expectations.

Tutoring Approach:

My philosophy is that I believe that every child has the right to an individual education tailored to their specific needs. Whilst teachers work incredibly hard to ensure pupils receive this in lessons, children often require the added support of one-to-one tutoring to practise techniques and consolidate knowledge. With an increasingly exam-based curriculum, children need practise at test papers and knowledge of exam techniques which schools often don't have the time to offer. Be it for short-term exam support or long-term help consolidating lesson work, I aim to provide a supportive, caring service that gives you peace of mind and your child added skills and confidence

About Georgios:
I have studied Electrical and Computer Engineering in Athens and obtained a MEng with distinction.

Currently I am pursuing my PhD in Signal Processing at the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught two undergraduates course (Introduction to programming and Advanced Programming Techniques) while undergraduate at the National Technical University of Athens.

I have been teaching Mathematics to undergraduate students at Imperial College London and Communications to MSc students at Imperial College London.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the purpose of every tutor is to give his tutee a thorough understanding of the respective course. Memorising and learning by heart cannot possible help anyone. Before I begin tutoring, I assess the child's needs and talk to them about the support that they would like. I make my sessions as interesting and creative as possible and use ICT to enhance learning when the tutoring takes place in my own home. The session is spent primarily with me teaching or working through a problem with a child-there's little benefit in a child working through a task independently with me sitting watching!

As Mother of a seven year old, a Primary School Teacher and an experienced tutor, I understand how difficult it can be to support your own child in their learning! Therefore, I will also support with homework and reading when necessary.

About George:
I am a Physics graduate with a passion for teaching. I have taught many things from maths problem, to how to sail and even once how to drive.

Teaching Experience:

A formal position at the University of Cape Town tutoring. I have around forty hours experience teaching one on one in South Africa. Also I have taught at Sailing Schools before.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every student is capable of expressing their ability in Science. I believe the student should be allowed to determine how they wish to go about solving their problems, after all if the answer is correct with okay logic why correct it? About James:
I am a 22 year old English Literature graduate, with a First-Class Honours degree from UCL. I have been tutoring since the beginning of this year, and have been accepted by several reputable tutoring agencies.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for the past two months, and have achieved impressive results already.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that when teaching English Literature, a great deal can be achieved when the pupil is comfortable enough to discuss his or her own opinions regarding a text. In a classroom situation, this is often impossible, because of anxiety or a lack of understanding. In a one-to-one tutoring situation, the pupil should feel more at ease and able to communicate more effectively, so progress can be made fairly rapidly.
