I am a UK qualified teacher with 20+ years' teaching experience. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc (Hons) in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the same university. I have taught in 3 secondary schools, located both in Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire. My first language is English.

I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I am a designated Advanced Skills Teacher; recognition of my outstanding classroom practice and the excellent results that this generates for the young people I teach. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. I have been tutoring children from my local area, from the broad neighbourhood, from other parts of the country and I also had the pleasure to tutor two children of a British family who live in Italy. They now attend the British School of Milan that is rated 'Excellent' by UK government inspectors.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that learning should be fun and not a burden! My main focus when teaching is to ensure the child is engaged, active and interested. I'm a hardworking, patient individual looking to improve the skills and confidence of my students by increasing their understanding rather than just telling them what is needed to complete their tasks.

I take a lot of time to plan individual lessons and strive to tailor each of them to the child's specific requirements. Every child is different so every lesson will be different. I initially like to talk to the children / parents and see where they think the weaknesses lie, also simple assessments such as past exam papers can highlight areas that need looking at. Maths and English can be challenging subjects for children, therefore I try to keep things simple and work step by step, to assist the student in understanding the concepts, also polishing the basics as we go along.

Over the years I have gained a diverse repertoire of skills to assist learning at all levels, along with a variety of tried and tested lessons to keep students engaged. I try to work in support of the pupil's school lessons, concentrating on challenging topics and areas where they lack confidence. I enjoy bringing a diverse range of materials and teaching methods to engage my students and help them to retain what they learn.
