My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with my tutees is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My name is Ngum-Agnes, I am 18 years old. I live in Cardiff and am currently studying Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and French at A level.
I received all As and A*s at GCSE and A Levels and all A*s in the subject I am tutoring in.

Teaching Experience:
I have had tutoring experiencing in the UK for over a year now in French, English, Mathematics, and Science.

I recently volunteered at children's orphanage in Africa where, among other things, I taught the Ethiopian children English. Doing so taught me the effectiveness and importance of patience and empathy when tutoring, as well as giving the pupil time to think through things in their own way.

Tutoring Approach:
I make sure to explain things slowly yet effectively and take time to understand the pupils way of learning and adapt my teaching in that way. I ensure that I am patient and friendly when tutoring and try to create a relaxed and calm but attentive atmosphere. I like to create a bond with my student so that they feel comfortable when learning but also eager and unafraid to ask questions when they do not understand.

I come to teaching from a commercial rather than academic background. I worked in music publishing and for an Indian furniture and design business for many years before qualifying as a mature student from the Institute of Education, UCL in 2013 with a PGCE (maths) at level seven since when I have been teaching GCSE maths to adults at various colleges around London including City of Islington College, South Thames College, Adult Learning Lewisham and Westminster Adult Education Services where I was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
As well as my PGCE I have A level mathematics and began a music degree at Goldsmiths thirty years ago but did not complete it. As part of my CPD I completed the GCSE Maths Enhancement Program at the IOE and Pearson's Preparing to Teach the new GCSE (9-1) Syllabus.

Teaching Experience:
2012 - 2013 - Taught adult functional skills L1/L2 and GCSE maths for a year at City and Islington for my PGCE teaching practice.

Sep 13 - (ongoing) - Adult Learning Lewisham (E3, L1, L2 and GCSE maths Higher and Foundation)

Jan 2014 - July 14 - L1/L2 and GCSE maths for South Thames College.

Ongoing - private tuition. I divide my time equally between teaching adults at the colleges mentioned above and private tuition for several agencies and sometimes by personal recommendation. I usually have between eight to ten private students from 11+ to GCSE with occasional mature students returning to education. I have also prepared students for public school (ISEB and 13+) entrance assessments.

I provide online tuition for Geography (Human and Physical) at numerous levels of academic development, alongside being a teacher and examiner for both GCSE and A-Level. Having been awarded a Ph.D. (2017) and successfully completed both an M.A. (2012) and a BSc (2011), I have knowledge and experience in teaching and tutoring across the discipline. Furthermore, I teach research methods and exam preparation/revision skills. My specialist area is hazard and risk management (seismic and tectonic hazards), but I also have the ability to teach social, regional and cultural geography, as well as physical landscapes, systems and processes. Lessons are provided face-to-face on camera, using slides and case study resources, as well as past papers. Tuition covers EDEXCEL, AQA, OCR, EDUQAS, and Cambridge International. Refunds are provided if lessons are cancelled with more than 24 hours' notice.

I mark assessments and homework free of charge. As an examiner, I fully understand mark schemes and expectations. My academic commitments and responsibilities have enabled me to gain experience of teaching both large and small class sizes. Lessons critically provide an overview of case studies, encourage interactive discussion, incorporate transferable skills, and identify synoptic links between geographical topics.
