Tutoring Approach:
Every student is an individual and deserves to be treated as such. There is no one size fits all approach that works for everyone so I make sure to really understand how all my students think in order to optimise their learning.

During lessons I go as fast or as slow as needed. I can start from the basics and build up or get straight into more advanced concepts. Practice questions are extremely important and lessons usually consist of us working careful through a question set on a particular topic. It is very important to me that my tutees feel comfortable and their confidence continues to rise with each lesson.

I believe that everyone deserves the best chance at school. It does not matter to me if you are a straight A student looking for some insurance, or if you are a bottom set student who has always struggled with maths. All I ask from my tutees is a willingness to learn.

I was born into a French-speaking family and have spoken French my entire life. I have a BA from the London School of Economics in French and Linguistics. I have also lived in France for several years. I have taught French privately for over 20 years and many of my students achieve very high standards. I'm a writer, composer, director and artist, and prizewinning History finalist at the University of Oxford, with experience of a broad range of learning environments and teaching styles, and substantial industry experience in music and the creative arts. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams. So now, i want to put my knowledge to some use- hence why i am here.

Teaching Experience:
I received 5 grade-8's in my Gcse's this year, including Biology, Chemistry, physics, maths, english literature, and 4 grade-7's in french, history, further maths, english language. My revision techniques are clearly effective and want to help students who want to learn and set their goals in life. I can also help with giving advice for a levels as I am currently studying biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level myself. There are multiple different ways to learn and I can help find the right way to learn for you. After having tutored many of my friends and family in the younger years, I realised that I have a passion for teaching as I can make even the most mediocre thing interesting and understandable. I am open to teaching online virtually, so you don't even have to travel anywhere- all at a reasonable price! Each lesson will be approximately an hour long, whenever at your convenience as long as I can find time on my schedule as well to teach.

Personal Description:
I am a retired maths teacher who has been successfully tutoring maths for the past 15 years. I graduated from Imperial College, London, with a first class honours degree and, for most of my full time working career, I was a computer software engineer. However, at the end of my career, I was a lecturer at the Royal School of Signalling, teaching mainly Data Networks but also Mathematics. I am married with 4 children and (to date) 7 grandchildren with whom we seem to have taken on a new career as child minders.

Teaching Experience:
When teaching maths at the Royal School Of Signalling, I was told I was doing a great job, particularly at building the confidence of students who had previously struggled while at school. During my time there, I gained a CFET teaching qualification and, based on my success, started offering private tuition. I found that I enjoyed the one to one lessons and tayloring the sessions for each individual student. I have now been successfully tutoring maths for 15 years. I have taught GCSE and A level maths for all the exam boards (Edexecl, AQA, OCR), plus for some entrance exams and scholarship exams. As well as in person tutoring, I have been sucesssfully teaching online via Zoom; I have a drawing pad and document camera to help.

Tutoring Approach:
I understand Maths to be a progressive series of concepts; the simpler, earlier concepts must be fully mastered before the more advanced ones can be readily understood. For example, I have come across students, even at A level, whose understanding of basic algebra is incomplete and this is holding them back from learning the more advanced topics. I therefore start by ensuring that these basic skills have been mastered before moving on. This continues throughout the student's progress, whether we are at Foundation GCSE or A level. I ensure each topic is properly understood before moving on and always make time to revise and consolidate. Basically the student sets the pace. Throughout, I try to make our sessions relaxed and enjoyable so that they build the student's confidence.
