I am an Independent Educational Consultant specialising in Dyslexic Disorders. I have been a private tutor for many years and have tutored over 200 students. I have worked with many gifted children and those also who find education a challenge. I specialise in special needs especially dyslexia and Autism. After training as a teacher and the a medical doctor I find that my interest has remained in the education field and so am now to begin training as an Educational Psychologist with the Institute of Education, University of London.

Tutoring Approach:
My general approach to teaching is to enhance individual skills by providing an individual programme for the student. This allows the student to learn independently instead of the learning associated within schools of one size fits all. Unfortunately, this does not work with many children who need a structured individualised approach. I also work within the "We find this subject a challenge, not an impossibility" field; that is to say everything is positive concerning the tuition, and everyone can learn, its just they have not been taught in a way that they personally understand. This is especially apparent with the dyslexic student.

I like to give personal attention to my tutees and to tailor the lessons to their needs but am happy to teach online up to 3 people together to reduce costs if that helps. We work on Language skills such as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in ESOL lessons with plenty of practice for tests if needed and when studying literature at a higher level, I encourage my tutees to relate what they are reading to current issues and events in the world so that it is relevant and interesting for them. English is essentially a skills based subject. Although there is a lot of content to learn at both GCSE and A level, students benefit from being able to access and flexibly use the techniques needed to study and criticize. I believe that all learning relies on creating an environment where children feel safe and inspired to take risks, make mistakes and try new challenges. For confident learners, this allows them to take themselves to newer and even more exciting problem solving; for those who are anxious or struggling to access a subject or learning in general, this means they can discover the strategies which work for them and show themselves that they are able to move forwards.

I will always take a child-centred approach, talking to families and children about what is already working for them and figuring out together what barriers they may be facing, so that I can scaffold their learning in the most effective way for them. Sessions will aim for a balance of fun, determination and curiosity, and plenty of opportunities to look back and appreciate what they've achieved.
