This coaching-based approach I take has proven highly successful. I approach each student and the sessions with an open mind to learn what I need to be of support.

Combining motivational coaching techniques, I offer a uniquely engaging, personally attuned service. The first lesson typically consists of a complimentary educational assessment (usually 30 minutes) to help identify key areas for improvement . All results can be shared with the parent/guardian. Based on this initial assessment, a 100% individual and tailored programme of learning is created. While encouraging the student to adopt high yet realistically achievable targets for their own education, I am also sensitive to the level of each student and what he or she is ready to adopt.

I help them to plan their time and create revision timetables, plans, resources and so on. I would check in with them on agreed days/ times via skype to see how they are doing with their studies and revision on the lead up to exams and assessments and help to support them through this. I provide this for students working towards any assessments such as 11+, GCSE's A'Levels and any other level 2 or 3 courses. This is a holistic educational support service for a fixed period. My Pug 'Tiggy' often joins in with the skype for younger students which can support them in keeping it fun and interesting and help them to stay on target. I have taught French and German in mainstream secondary schools where I prepared students for GCSE, AS and A2-Level exams in both subjects (AQA board). Between 96% and 100% of students achieved a grade C/4. I also have experience teaching children with a wide range of additional needs. I taught in specialist schools for children with moderate, severe, and profound learning difficulties (a range of subjects in Key Stages 1 to 5) and specialist settings for children with social and emotional difficulties (a range of subjects in Key Stages 2 and 4). I have previously tutored French and German to children as young as 5, through to adult learners. This was delivered in a 1:1 or 2:1 setting.

When I tutor my priority is to make sure that you enjoy learning and grow in confidence in the subject. I would describe myself as patient, a clear communicator, and personable. I have a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and I've taught students all the way from university to primary school in a number of subject areas. I also have an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge and a BA (Philosophy) /BSc (Biology) from the University of Auckland.

At the moment, my main areas of expertise are philosophy/critical thinking and sociology but I've previously privately tutored students in biology, maths, psychology and english for many years.

I specialise in teaching students to do just that little bit better in exams and in fundamental skills that will be useful to them throughout their education, such as writing clearly and engagingly.

Learning should also be fun and tailored to the student; ideas don't really come alive unless they feel relevant. So even my university teaching uses sources that are accessible and interesting to the student, like podcasts and youtube videos.

My personal strengths lie with supporting the student with exam technique.
