I have been teaching chemistry, science and maths for over 35 years and now I am using this experience to offer bespoke 1:1 tutoring for students of all levels..

I have a first class honours degree in chemistry from the University of Leicester, a DPhil in organic chemistry from the University of Oxford and a PGCE [Chemistry] from Oxford.

I keep up to date with my subject through regular Continuing Professional Development activities including reading about the subject and attending seminars and courses.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.

Teaching Experience:
I was Head of Chemistry at Eton College [the famous public school] and was a Senior Lecturer in chemistry at the University of Northampton. Alongside these appointments, I was an Associate Lecturer in chemistry with The Open University teaching part-time students by distance learning and at Summer Schools for over 30 years. I have over 20 years experience of online [distance learning] tutoring as well as the traditional face-to-face tutoring.

I am a patient, friendly and successful teacher, with over 35 years' experience, specialising in chemistry at GCSE and A-level with experience of IGCSE, IB and university level chemistry teaching. In addition I have extensive experience of tutoring science and mathematics to GCSE level including to home schooled students. I am a graduate in Physics with Astrophysics, which was a four year degree, which included me living and learning in Italy. My degree was challenging yet enjoyable, and contained a lot of Maths, which to me was great! As a born communicator writing and teaching have always appealed, and having spent the last decade tutoring and working for the Institute of Physics, I can definitely say I enjoy it as much now as I did when I started.. I also have a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:
For the last 12 years I have taught a wide variety of learners from the age of 6 all the way up to 45! Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. Teaching physics is a great privilege and pleasure having taught A Level physics for both OCR and Edexcel boards as well as GCSE and iGCSE physics and chemistry. I am currently in the process of creating an A-level OCR physics course for an Oxfordshire school which is both challenging and hugely rewarding as I know it will be used for the A-level students for years to come.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually tend to approach lessons by going through the background of the topic in focus and a few worked examples before giving students questions to answer themselves and going through worked solutions. Independent practice is a key part of becoming stronger in a subject, and the more a student practices, the better they will get, and this is a truly rewarding feeling. Throughout lessons, I work with a highly friendly, approachable and patient approach to tutoring, as it is vital to ensure that my students feel comfortable to ask questions on whatever topic they may have difficulties with.
Furthermore, I aim to be as concise in my explanations as possible and I like to break down problems into manageable chunks. For example, I encourage students to underline keywords in questions and, particularly in maths and science, to draw diagrams to help them visualise problems. When it comes to exam technique I teach students precisely how to answer certain styles of question to score full marks and show as much working wherever possible. Tutoring Approach:
I prefer classes to be carried out in small groups, or ideally, one to one.
I try to make the lessons as fun and engaging as possible, as from my experience, that`s the best way to make students want to learn, and remember what they`ve learned.
I use the `5 whys?` approach to prompt student to think by themselves and work towards the answer rather than just relying on the tutor to give them the answers.
If my students show great potential or interest, I am more than willing to introduce more challenging questions and concepts that can be beyond the syllabus (upon request).
I will explain every formula that are introduced briefly so that students first understand how and why they work, which will help them a lot in remembering and when/how to apply them.

Occasionally, A small test will be carried out to judge students` level at the first lesson, I will then have a small chat with them to understand which parts they have least confidence in and know their requirements and aims to ensure we get on track and work towards the correct direction.

At Rawlett I teach KS3 and KS4 (11-16). My subject specialism is Chemistry which I teach predomminantly at KS4. I teach all 3 sciences at KS3 and have taught all sciences at KS4

I previously trainined through the SCITT training programme at Etone College and Hartshill School both in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

I've managed to survive two lockdowns of online teaching and it has been a huge learning curve for myself. During these periods I taugh live lessons using google classroom both on an individual and classroom basis.

The organisation I work for (AET academies) is a national leader for integrating technology with classroom based learning and I have hugely benefited from working for AET in this regard.

During lockdown I particularly enjoyed the challenge of adapting to the needs of SEND pupils

Tutoring Approach:
My experience in online teaching is based around using google classroom systems but I'm more than happy to adapt to applications that my pupils are more comfortable using.
I normally tutor in hour sessions and do my best to work around the schedules of my customers

I favour modelling answers and working through questions with pupils by using a graphics tablet which I find immensely useful. The learning resources I use are the results of the hardwork of the experienced team I work with at the AET academy.

I'd describe my teaching style as being driven by my passion for science. I consider it crucial to establish a good working relationship with my pupils so they feel confident enough to express what it is they are struggling to understand. I believe a sense of humour is a very underated and important tool for achieving this as well as enabling pupils to enjoy the subject being taught.

I am a friendly and outgoing tutor. I have studied at Wilson's School and I have a variety of interests. Teaching has always been my passion and I enjoy interacting with young students.

Teaching Experience:
I initially started teaching students at my local library. Finding it a very rewarding experience, I continued this passion by teaching 11+ and GCSE students. I have now added several A Level students as well to my lessons.

I have taught 11+ students on a regular basis. I have also conducted many intensive courses for 11+ Maths and English in July/August in order to help them gain momentum for the 11+ entrance exams.

I have helped several GCSE and students achieve their target grades and have enjoyed seeing them gain confidence with every lesson.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe in connecting with my students in a way that they gain confidence and clear insight in their subject. I follow a clear structure in my lessons in order to cover all relevant topics that they need help in, teaching them not just the theory but also the exam technique to help them achieve the highest marks possible. I share tricks and learning devices with them in order to make memorising/revising a more efficient experience. I set regular homework, including solving past papers.

I focus on helping my students achieve excellence in their subjects by helping them aim higher. I firmly believe that every student has the capability within to attain success. My goal is to help them in this process and make the journey as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

Hi I'm Elise! A second year environmental science student at Lancaster University. I have a wide range of science knowledge and am excited to begin sharing and supporting GCSE aged pupils grow in their knowledge and interest of the sciences as well! Outside of tutoring, I spend lots of my time playing the flute, reading, and hiking! I'm looking forward to beginning this tutoring journey in a fun, creative and beneficial way .

Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring one to one close friends and family but I believe I am suited to further tutoring since I already have quite a lot of experience in supporting and facilitating young people in scouting since I am an experienced scout leader in the Winchester district. I also would say I have a recent and relevant understanding of the GCSE syllabus and examinations, especially in the sciences since I am currently taking a Bsc Environmental Science degree and my passion for science has only grown since I took my GCSE's.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring will be adapted specially to each student, depending on how they prefer to be taught but also recognizing weaknesses in the syllabus and working on those until overall confidence is build. I am a former teacher at a GCSE and Sixth Form college in west London. I currently work in the E-learning industry. I also have my own podcast about education, Education Bookcast. I cover a book a week about education research, for the benefit of teachers, parents, and anybody who takes an interest.

I am a Chemical Engineering graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Tutoring Approach:
It is easy to overcomplicate things.

- Anyone can learn anything. It's a matter of method, support, application, and belief.
- Students learn new material at first by seeing a need to learn the new thing (e.g. because they don't know how to solve a new problem), and connecting new information to things they already know.
- They then need to strengthen this understanding by engaging in problems themselves and trying to remember what they have learned.
- Many students need to gain confidence. This partly comes from encouragement, but true confidence comes from progress and success, which comes from following the above.
- Students need guidance. It's challenging enough to try to focus on the material. Teachers need to make sure that all of students' focus is placed on thinking about the content, rather than on sideline issues like trying to figure out what comes next.
- Efficiency is important. Most people have specific targets (e.g. passing an exam). Things need to happen quickly.
- At the same time, early stages sometimes need to take longer in order to build a foundation for what follows. Taking a step back can be important in order to be clear on what's really going on, and avoiding rote memorisation or "going through the motions".
