I have been teaching chemistry, science and maths for over 35 years and now I am using this experience to offer bespoke 1:1 tutoring for students of all levels..

I have a first class honours degree in chemistry from the University of Leicester, a DPhil in organic chemistry from the University of Oxford and a PGCE [Chemistry] from Oxford.

I keep up to date with my subject through regular Continuing Professional Development activities including reading about the subject and attending seminars and courses.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.

Teaching Experience:
I was Head of Chemistry at Eton College [the famous public school] and was a Senior Lecturer in chemistry at the University of Northampton. Alongside these appointments, I was an Associate Lecturer in chemistry with The Open University teaching part-time students by distance learning and at Summer Schools for over 30 years. I have over 20 years experience of online [distance learning] tutoring as well as the traditional face-to-face tutoring.

I am a patient, friendly and successful teacher, with over 35 years' experience, specialising in chemistry at GCSE and A-level with experience of IGCSE, IB and university level chemistry teaching. In addition I have extensive experience of tutoring science and mathematics to GCSE level including to home schooled students. I currently lecture at the University of Salford and have over 28 years of teaching experience. I have been tutoring privately for over a decade. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. I am familiar with the syllabi for OCR, AQA, and Edexcel for GCSE, A-level, and degree courses. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutee's requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning. The tutee largely dictates the structure of the sessions, including the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style, which can be discussed during the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted accordingly.

I recently volunteered at children's orphanage in Africa where, among other things, I taught the Ethiopian children English. Doing so taught me the effectiveness and importance of patience and empathy when tutoring, as well as giving the pupil time to think through things in their own way.

I make sure to explain things slowly yet effectively and take time to understand the pupils way of learning and adapt my teaching in that way.
