Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. We have a son and a daughter; both graduated from Universities in Manchester. Following my voluntary redundancy from AstraZeneca, (Jun 2008), I am now a self-employed Tutor / Consultant. During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. Personal Description:
I am a private tutor based in Orpington, London. I tutor Maths and Sciences up to GCSE and tutor Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A-Level/IB. I can tutor online or in person.

Having finished my PhD at the University of Cambridge, I am now a qualified European Patent Attorney in Life Sciences and Biotechnology. I am also a Founder and CEO at a number of start-up companies.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored students from a number of schools in the South East, such as St. Olave's, Newstead, Townley, Beths, Bexley Grammar, Bullers Wood, Eltham College and Sevenoaks, as well as many more across the UK.

I also tutor many Chinese students attending various boarding schools across the UK.

I have experience with all major UK exam boards and can provide my students with relevant study materials.

Tutoring Approach:
Every student is different and my teaching style is adapted to their individual needs once we have identified their weaknesses.

I believe understanding is the best approach to learning and teaching. There's no point in just memorising things if you don't understand where they came from. I explain things in such a way that it is easy to understand, and I am very patient.

However, I cannot perform miracles. Students aiming for top grades would be expected to do some homework in between sessions.

I also offer a lot of flexibility. If the student has learnt something in school they didn't quite understand, I can go over the topic again with them during our lesson. If the student understood everything in school, I can teach them new topics to prepare them for when they learn that topic in school. Lastly, near exam times, I can offer intense exam revision and exam paper practice.
