My name is Michael and I teach private one to one drum kit lessons to people of all ages, in and around the Yorkshire area. I have been playing the drum kit for over 20 years and started playing at the early age of 11. Since then I have been in many bands and performed in many venues in and around the Yorkshire area.
After studying music at school in Scotland and forming my first band I soon found myself addicted to the drum kit. I decided I wanted to further my skills by getting private drum kit lessons which helped me gain my Standard Grade/GCSE and Higher Grade/A-Level in Music. I then furthered this by studying a BTEC in Popular Music at Huddersfield Technical College and a BA (Hons) in Popular Music at the University of Sheffield. I have also recently completed my PGCE in Life Long Learning at the University of Huddersfield and hold QTLS with IfL.

Teaching Experience:
I had my first teaching experience when I was 16 years old at a music workshop during the summer holidays where I was involved in teaching groups of people how to play the drum kit within a band setting. At the end of the workshops each group that had formed had to perform their songs to the public.

Since then I always had a desire to pursue my teaching and in 2006 I started teaching at Rhythm Inc Music Tuition in Barnsley. Initially, I only had a couple of students that I would teach in my spare time between my job and other commitments. I have been playing guitar from the age of 14, firstly teaching myself and then learning from teachers such as Gypie Mayo (Dr Feelgood). I formed my first band at 15 and have been teaching, playing and song-writing in bands ever since, playing in venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Dingwalls, The Marquee, Chinnery's, 100 club, playing alongside artists such as Finley Quaye, Boy George and the Brand New Heavies. I won two editions of the Concorso Cameristico C.A.Seghizzi in Gorizia: in 2005 in the Sacred Music category, and in 2007 in Chamber Singing category (in duo with Alessandro Sica, with whom I attended a masterclass with soprano Catherine Dubosc).
As an opera singer I have performed the following roles: Alfredo (Traviata, Verdi), Count Almaviva (Barbiere di Siviglia, Rossini) Ernesto (Don Pasquale, Donizetti), Nemorino (Elisir d'Amore, Donizetti), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly, Puccini), Pong (Turandot, Puccini), Jacopo Foscari (I due Foscari, Verdi), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor, Donizetti), Hoffmann (Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Offenbach). Paolo is an Italian songwriter, composer, and stage director based in London.

He has independently composed, produced, and released solo albums, as well as soundtracks for theatre productions and songs for other artists. Beginning his music career in 1992, Paolo is also an accomplished singer and guitarist who has performed across Europe and collaborated with numerous international artists.

His unique writing style has evolved over years of traveling, literary studies, and ongoing poetic exploration, which earned him first prize in poetry at the Pirandello Stable Festival in 2012.

Paolo's theatre and cinema career began in 1998. Alongside intensive drama school training, he spent seven years honing his acting and directing skills at the Teatro Regio di Torino, working under renowned directors Franco Zeffirelli, José Carlos Plaza, Ugo De Ana, Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, and John Cox.

Since 2002, he has written and directed numerous plays, including The Bald Soprano by Ionesco, The Trojan Women by Euripides, and A Doll's House by Ibsen, staged in various UK venues.

Throughout his career, Paolo has taught Italian Literature, Humanities, Music, and Geography in primary and secondary schools and academies. He holds an MA in Humanities and Arts from the University of Turin, a Diploma in Classical Guitar from Trinity College London, an MA in Archaeology from UCL, and is currently pursuing PhD research at Cardiff University.

About me-

Based in Manchester, Gauri is a dedicated music educator and composer. She loves meeting new people from around the world-the UK, US, Asia-whom she would have never met without online lessons.Gauri earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Huddersfield, studying piano performance under concert pianist Jonathan Fisher, applied music research under Dr. Daniel White, and music composition under Dr. Geoff Cox.

She also participated in masterclasses with Karl Lutchmayer, Gabriele Baldocci, Douglas Finch, and Sally Ann MacLeod. Gauri completed her music diploma with distinction from KM Music Conservatory, A. R. Rahman's music school in Chennai, India, where she was the lead pianist of the KM Piano Ensemble and performed at Alliance Française of Madras.

To excel as a music educator, Gauri studied music education and community under Dr. Adam Grieg and attended teaching seminars by Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Tim Palmer. She has performed at prestigious venues in the UK and India, including St. Paul's Hall, The Stein Auditorium, Sai Auditorium, and Siri Fort Auditorium.

Grateful for her opportunities and committed to giving back to society, Gauri has actively engaged with community-focused music projects. She has worked with the Sunshine Orchestra in Chennai, an initiative founded by A. R. Rahman to provide free music education to underprivileged children. In this role, she mentored young musicians, helping them develop their skills and fostering their love for music.

Additionally, Gauri has been involved with Music and the Deaf in the UK, an organization dedicated to providing musical opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Through workshops and performances, she has contributed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can experience the joy of music.

Tutoring Approach:
About the lesson-

The internet is full of many many talented piano teachers, who are doing amazing work with their students. However, I feel that there are some musical topics that remain untalked about because of how challenging it might be to talk about them, topics such as ear training, improvisation and music theory.

Through this class, I help students in developing these essential skills of ear training, improvisation and music theory. I also help them discover their own unique voice through composition.

Yes, we'll learn how to play your favourite songs/ pieces on the piano. We'll prepare for Trinity grades, if you like. But this class is especially for you, if you'd like to get truly educated in music. These are the topics that I typically cover in my lessons-

1)Play songs that you love

2)Build skills such as improvisation and ear training (that will last you a lifetime)

3)Understand the theory behind music

4)Appear for Trinity/ ABRSM exams

I have a unique approach of teaching piano through Music Theory. This not only results in a good practical understanding but also helps the student understand the in's and out's of how music works.
